Lets just say I LOVED the venue + the music but those kids have got to be the freakiest motherf*ckers alive! Hoooly shit! That ruined the vibe for me the most...people push you & step on you & it's like they don't really care like they have no manners...It didn't seem like an 18+ party, might as well have been all ages...those kids can't handle their drugs for real they need to S T O P!

It was very nice to meet you Rich, thanks for EVERYTHING very cool of you! Nice meeting you too DaveT I feel so bad cool TAs have to party with weirdos like that if they want to go to a rave...whoooa.

Now I know why shit in FL is controlled...SRSLY! & I thought it was too strict here...well I'm glad now!

Signum rooooooooocked! For my first time even though I wished they would have played longer but so worth my trip! Sucks about the speaker issue but still great w00t w00t. Blank & Jones of course did too...music was all around perfect! I really loved the venue & the view from the seats upstairs...I've never seen something like that...really cool.

I really enjoyed the city...San Fran is beautiful & ENTIRELY different than Miami...I love the elevated streets & the cool scenery...I will def. be going back...& to a CLUB event with older people

It was also a good experience to party somewhere else & experience a different scene. I can say, yes, I am a bit traumatized from those kids but it's ok every place has their little weirdos.

I had just gotten there (the night hadn't even began) & saw a girl carried out by two paramedics cuz she looked totally TRASHED!

Oh & I saw NO cops inside (that is CRAZY) the security there I don't even think cares because people were laying down on the floor getting blown up ALL over the place & no one says anything. I stepped on this girl laying in the middle of the dance floor I was like WTF lol. I saw a shitload of people with surgeon masks on last time I saw that was back in raves in 99 & people used to put vicks in them ...very different from Miami where you even get glow sticks taken away from you.

Haha, well I'm glad the trip was "eventful" at least. Nothing worse than travelling all that way and seeing the same old scene as your own town. Although I'd consider Spundae @ Ruby Skye more the trance scene out here. I gotta say though, the view from the bleachers was pretty spectacular, considering I've never made it up there in the past. Too bad about the crappy weather though, record rainfall is still hitting the bay all week! Next time come around summer...or late summer *hint hint* Love Parade. Who knows you might see Signum on the line-up...

well sorry for the late review but...

1) nice to meet all the TAs! i look HORRIBLE in that pic though (bald asian guy in the grey puma jacket on page 1), as if i was doin drugs or something, which i clearly wasnt

2) i agree withe verything in the review. i got elbowed in the face by a glowsticker even though im 6'2. ppl kept stepping all over my shoes and nearly pushed me over. at least upstairs in the bleacher no one was having a massive e-orgy, like thats any relief...

3) i dunno but my highlight of the night was seeing the last half of dj colettes house + the beginning of kaskades house set. colette has a nice voice too, she sang intot he mixer. interesting stuff that perry put out..

overall id say a 7/10 on the event. not nearly as cool as LPAP but whatever.

Jason, we (well I) understand it's hard which is why you are mainly hearing complaints regarding the crowd not Skills itself. I think (I hope!) I can speak for everyone when we say we completely appreciate all the effort that you guys do in trying to pull off events like these. Skills is pretty much the only promoter around who is willing to bang out huge events like this once or twice a year in SF. GoVentures/Insomniac down in LA suffers from the same problems only with their events being All Ages it's actually quite worse.

It's probably fair to say the people on these boards are a bit more jaded than the people will see on other boards like Bay Raves. Just different crowds altogether....and while people on Bayraves loves the PLUR effect in these events, I think in large part we are just wanting the type of event you see at massives in Europe over here in the US. No on there needs to show up in bright colors PLUR shirts, candy, glow sticks, pacifiers, etc etc, and I guarantee you everything there leaves just as happy and w/o leaving a bad reflection on the scene.

But it just isn't like that here. At least in this area. I think our side of the scene and the other side of the scene (PLUR) both do see Skills trying to transition to making the events...I don't know...seem more mature(?), more professional(?). Case in point, look at the flyer designs as of late by you guys. Or should I say The Firm Graphics...who I love.

I think it's smart. You will always attract that PLUR crowd. These events just do. The promotion designs you guys are doing will hopefully attract another crowd to the events.

I saw on the Skills board saying they noticed a more cold, clubbish crowd there...and not a PLUR crowd. The reason the "club" crowd was cold was because we aren't used to people running us over in clubs. Yes, there are instances but at least people in clubs usually give you eye contact before passing or just straight up say excuse me. Last night it felt like there were 50 train tracks with freight trains running full stream on them constantly....funny cause I could go from the most crowded part of the crowd and make my way out without really causing a fuss with anyone.

But in the end, if we are going to want the scene to make a good come back in the US or the west coast, we are all going to have to find a middle-ground that makes us all happy. It might take a lot of time, but hopefully it will happen.

If I have one recommendation, though...don't offer oranges of all things in VIP...I heard they were back there again. People wonder why oranges of all things...I did...and even heard a couple cops/security peeps discussing it. Just my two cents.

Jason I strongly appriciate your efforts to bring great acts to the bay area. Kayau vs Albert, Blank and Jones, Rank 1, Signum, Thomas Datt, Robert Nickson. I more have a problem with the crowd and people sitting down in the front of the stage and all over, I just think security could do a better job moving people who want to sit down and do light shows either to the balcony or to the back fo the arena where its not such a big deal and isn't soo much in the way, I don't know how feasible this idea is but it would really help this problem. The other frustrating thing was standing in the will call line for 1hr and 15 min. I was extremely happy to see Hallie passing out tickets and checking id's in a fast manner but up until that point the line wasn't really moving and I missed the opening dj's set even though i showed up 1/2 hour early. Lastly the speaker thing was kinda frustrating too though I don't know how controllable that was. I loved the music, and really loved the xone:62 mixer that you guys choose to use as I felt a lot of dj's really took advantage of it. I loved the energy that all the trance dj's brought and the line up that was brought was top notch and very good. all in all it was a very fun night and all my comments are just trying to help make the experience better for all and help bring some more of the "club" scene out to the massive arena.

I agree with Dave that the production itself was for the most part, thoughtfully executed and us tranceaddicts are appreciative of your efforts to bring such world-class artists to San Francisco, but the candy crowd, though probably a large base of support for your events, is really what turns many other trance/edm lovers away from them. No one wants to see a grown man sucking on a pacifier, or half the crowd's vacuous facial expressions lit up by glow toys. By association you feel like you're a crackhead being around all that. People are saying the crowd is getting worse from previous years, I'm assuming that means more PLURR/candy raver presense. Eventually they might scare off all the non-PLURRs from coming. These guys are doing nothing to promote the growth of electronic music in the community, if anything they are the reason any negative image is associated with trance music. Continuing down this road, eventually something will happen at one of these events that I fear will cause a public response that damages the entire scene.

I don't know how interested you are in changing the face of the crowd, but as far as making a more enjoyable experience for ALL, maybe make a rule of no laying on the ground in the main center dance floor area. Puddles in the middle of the crowd really KILL the vibe for everyone standing around witnessing them. Maybe tape off a 20-30 foot wide area along the walls for these kids to go nuts in. And use low-lounge lighting in the center of the crowd to make them more self-conscious about their appearance too.

Other suggestions: improve the VIP perks. I didn't buy a VIP ticket this time and told my friends not to only because of my VIP experience at LP afterparty... warm soda and water, fruit and stagnant cheese/sandwiches, which I was afraid to touch. Plus the biggest let down of all was while in the VIP you couldn't see the crowd, the dj, the booth, or even get direct sound from any speakers. Pretty much just chairs to sit in and tables to put stuff on and the ability to catch the dj as he is leaving. It is the equivalent of enjoying a club event from the lobby/entrance. You may get your privacy but are dettached from the show. A VIP bar would be nice, some accessibility to the stage, even if a far corner or the back part of the stage so VIP ticketholders can at least get nice pics/vid of the crowd and dj and feel they had a unique experience because of VIP. The will call line sucks too, but it only takes making that mistake once to know better. Still, I'll bet a lot of angry people though.

What I liked: the line-up and the lighting and stage rig were impressive as always, minus the cinderblock booth. A nice table cloth or curtain over that stack would have made the whole thing look well-presented, especially in the thousands of pics and videos taken of it. Those CDJ stands need sound dampners to prevent equipment from taking a dump. Luckily none of the cables came loose when the CDJ fell. When Sasha was in DC he almost refused to finish his set because of recurring sound issues and his Mac falling off the booth. Lucky B&J were more understanding for LPAP but not all DJs are like that.

I gotta say though, if it wasn't for the aggro-crackhead crowd, this would have been an amazing event for me.

yeah lex was spot on. I got vip as well as 4 of my friends for love parade after party and while it was kinda cool to see the djs on the way in and out it was a complete letdown that there wasn't a place to watch the stage from or see the crowd. I think lex's ideas are very good to improve vip, also making it a lot easier to get in and out, using a dedicated vip line whether its will call vip or hard tickets.

Deep Voices also played Purple Haze - Eden....which is where I 100% knew the sound was off in the night...because I thought the sound of other tracks played by some of the DJs was a bit whack. I think the issue was with the mid-highs in the sound system. Also thought they played Eden way too slow...or maybe it was just I was used to the BPM being cranked way higher after Signum/Rank 1/B&J.

I thought I heard Breathe when I was going through the hall...you sure it wasn't the Sander van Doorn remix?

Rank 1 played Rank 1 - Top Gear....I called it because during the track before it I was telling rich how he better not play Top Gear...and I said whatever track he was playing at the time (which was awesome) would sound like it would perfectly lead into Top Gear. Rank 1 did play Top Gear next, but thank god he started with it going fast which is a great part of the track. I just hate the slow build up intro I usually hear, which is what I was fearing.

Rank 1 also played Marco V - False Light (Ton TB Remix?) ... remember us all just sitting there trying to guess the remix. I was completely wrong as usual. Anyhow, after hearing I think it's my favorite remix of it. Sounds fucking awesome.

Last thing I can remember Rank 1 playing was Tiesto pres. Allure - In Love We Lost (Original Mix)...crowd went nuts...actually not a huge fan of the original mix as it just seems to be missing something but Piet played with the EQs just right to make it sound really good Saturday night...or maybe the sound system being a little off actually helped it a bit.

Blank & Jones also played Ferry Corsten - Star Traveller (Hydroid Remix)...I remember swearing it was going to be Tiesto pres. Allure - In Love We Lost (Tilt Remix) *yes, after just hearing the original mix*...the lead in is EXACTLY the same (to my ears)...but it was the Hydroid Remix of Star Traveller. I remember telling Esper the ID like 5 times and I guess he didn't hear me because he had a total, "WTF is the name of this song? I KNOW IT!" look on his face...he finally heard me on liky the fifth time when I was trying to figure out which remix it was. Also thought they were going to play Star Traveller again right at the end but it was cream...think they might have done a little playing there because I'm confident I was hearing the lead in to Star Traveller again with even a hint of the synth. I think Rich can back me up on this. I actually think they played some wicked Cream/Star Traveller mashup or something at Ten15 in February now that I think about it...and I remember someone telling me at Ten15 that it was something new they had just done. I could be wrong. Probably am.

I tend to be very off in trying to ID at events...dunno why, even when I'm completely sober (which I pretty much was Saturday night)...

Well, you didn't miss A&B because A&B didn't play...nor was scheduled. You are think of B&J (Blank & Jones)....who played at Ten15 just in February.

Although their Popsicle set was wayyyyyyyyyyyy better even though it was only an hour.

Ten15 is fine. They have certainly stepped up their security and the basement (where most of the shady crowd hung out) is still closed. I've heard that when the basement reopens it will be completely different. Not exactly sure if I'm allowed to discuss details on what they are doing to it, but I can say that from what I've heard it will by no means be an area for a shady crowd to hang out in.

I'm sure the security has always been doing their best they can, but sh*t still happened in that place and the drugs smuggling still carried on from time to time there.., not that I wanna spill the beans or what, it's the people who work there that actuallu are the drug dealer themselves... you know Dave, I used to hang out there alot (and you too) back then, ya know what I'm talking abt...

it happened EVERY f*cking time when the big names are here... RS, 1015, Mezz, etc... you just have to take it eazy bro or you will never wanna go out enjoying the music and see all these talented djs that inspire you... you get some and you lose some, simple as that... or stay home listening to your ipod and get trashed my friend... simple as that!!! I've learned that years ago...

To 1015's credit, they are starting to change things around in there. The upstairs and basement have been rennovated and look much classier.

Not to mention they are offering 'College Night' on Saturdays ($5 to get in with college ID) to get some younger demographics in the club. I sware, everytime I have been to 1015 this year I have seen tons 35-45 year old asians on e... not to mention families go there too! LOL .. seriously though.. I am not hating, but that is not my scene. Although, they are trying to step it up, I will give them the credit... but I will give it some time before the crowd changes...
