1850's democrats = 2006's republicans. they have very similar views. the party name means nothing

To me the Confederate flag represents the greatest period in American history, and what a great place North America would be now had the South won.

what a douche - you're clearly a troll attempting to start shit.

saying you appreciate the confederate flag for its rad design and representation of delicious southern food is like saying you like the nazi flag for its cool geometric pattern and representation of german industriousness.

get a clue and read a history book.

to some people the confederate flag represents state rights
to some people the confederate flag represents racism

not when the racism is codified directly into those very systems of governance. trying to differentiate between the two is deeply offensive and betrays a grave misunderstanding of american history.

race bore into the very heart of ante- and post-bellum southern culture and informed virtually every aspect of its social, cultural, economic and political life. to state otherwise or try parse these points is patently ridiculous.

lol stop pretending the civil war was ABOUT slavery and racial equality. it was about federalism vs confederacy first and foremost. post-war abolition was more of a punishment to the south than it was anything else in the eyes of the federalists. sure they used it to later vindicate themselves in history books, just as they did demonize the symbol of the confederacy, but please quit pretending that was the main contention between the north and the south.

i don't have a confederate flag, nor would i ever fly one because of the racial association, but ask anyone who does and see how much of it is about race and how much of it is about state rights.

I like a lot of flags. Bosnia & Herzegovnia is pretty cool:

An of course I love the elegance and simplicity of Finland, but that just might be pride of my heritage:

Don't even get me started on the South. I live here, and can assure all outsiders that there's no special charm or character to be found. It's simply a cultural failure, which should have been allowed to decay into obscurity than exact the cost of War and Reconstruction.

A cross patte:
quote:
The heraldic cross patte was sometimes used by the Teutonic Knights (though their more usual emblem was a plain straight black cross on white), and later became associated with Prussia and the 1871-1918 German empire, and continues to be used by the German military after 1918. A version of the iron cross is used to date by the German army (Bundeswehr) as its symbol and nationality marking and found on vehicles, aircraft and publications.

More specifically, it's the Iron Cross.
