Allrighty then, let's get cracking on this review:
First off, I am thanking my lucky stars I had no work on Saturday, which meant I got to go to WEMF with all my friends in the morning instead of driving up there alone in the evening. We left Sauga around 11, and I think around 3ish we got in. For some reason, they barely searched us at all - we had a van packed to the brim with our stuff, and they only quickly opened up 1 or 2 bags and that's it (lol, later we found out we accidentally smuggled a jar of pickles inside). WE GOT INCREDIBLY FUCKING LUCKY WITH OUR CAMPSITE. When we first started looking, it looked like we were gonna be cramped in the middle of this dust field with like 500 other tents, because there were no otherspots anywhere at asll. Then boom, across the road from the original TA-campsite-suggested area, we find this huuuuge camping spot, away from all the people, and right behind the 4-4 stage. The spot looked like shit at first, but we cleaned it up, pulled out the weeds, set up our tent and our humongous fucking gazebo, and our spot turned out to be fuuucking PIMP. That gazebo was a godsend (thank you so much Marius for bringing that thing). It kept out the rain, it kept out the sun, it kept out the bugs, and it even kept out the sketchbags who were wandering on the grass from time to time.
Around 4 or 5pm, while we were setting everything up, we were listening to some pretty nice House coming from the 4-4 stage (our camping spot was a bit of a soup of sounds from different stages, but mainly we heard the 4-4 stage). Then we set up, drank and had a nice dinner (a mini-BBQ is a saviour), and then explored a bit, which made us appreciate our spot even more. And even while only walking around (and not dancing on the dancefloors), it was impossible not to feel and appreciate the amazing positive vibe from absolutely everyone in the park. Everyone was friendly, helpful, and just downright fucking noice. No club that I've been to so far has ever come even remotely close to that kind of a positive atmosphere. Everyone was there to enjoy themselves, be it through music, drugs, friends, or some combination of the three. SICK.
At the beginning of Saturday night we just hopped from stage to stage checking out the different sounds, so I don't remember who I saw at what time. But I DO remember that the OS/2 & Walter Rosati set was absolutely mint. They played some siick Trance, even if the record was skipping from time to time (I'm a DJing n00b, so someone tell me if that's the DJ's fault or not, cause I'm not sure it is). I remember seeing OS/2 at the Docks back on NYE, and his set back then impressed the shit out of me too. So he's 2-for-2 in the playing sick tunes count. ROFL, just remembered that sometime later during the night, I turn around, and see who I thought was OS/2 chilling in the middle of the 4-4 dancefloor. I wanted to thank him for his awesome set, so I come up to him with "Hey, you're OS/2, right?", only to find out that no, he isn't. I felt pretty stupid after that, but in my defense, I saw him up on the stage during the Docks set and the WEMF set, so I kinda assumed it was him. O well. BTW, dude-who-I-mistaked-for-OS/2, if you read this, who are you then?
I think it was during their set that I finally ran into the first TA - Jen. Note to self for the future - walk around with a camp map at all times, and mark down on it where all your friends are located. I would have come to chill with you later Jen, but I completely forgot where you were located. All I remember is it was somewhere in the woods.
At this point I should mention that even though it was raining in the evening - I didn't mind the rain at all - it kept the dust down, and it kept me cool. Plus, it was amazing feeling the drops on your body and having the comfort in knowing that it was clean water, and not the sweat run-off from the Guv rafters.
Another sidenote: I don't think anything beats going down to sit down to rest from dancing in your camp area, having a beer, eating some nice foods, talking to your friends, and not missing a second of the 4-4 stage sets ALL AT THE SAME TIME. This was probably one of my favourite aspects of WEMF.
As I remember, after OS/2 & Rosati, it was Jelo's set, was it not? Anycase, I remember Jelo's set (just not what time it was), and it was OK. Good, but nothing outwardly special coming from him. I know other people were going apeshit over it, but I just wasn't feeling it. It was too hard I think, and I just wasn't ready for that yet.
Thrillseekers were good, but once again, nothing special. Played some good tunes, and had me moving the whole time. Can't say I was dissapointed because I didn't really expect much from them anyway. I thoroughly enjoyed Synasthesia though.
j00f. J-double-fucking-O-F. WOW. WOW. WOW. WOW. WOW. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW. This guy wins best set of WEMF award, no doubt about it. Awesome, consistently sick Psy Trance. I couldn't recognize any of the tunes, but they were ALL good. He had me going insane from 1:15-2:30 NON STOP. Had an amaaazing time during his set. There's not much more I can say, because I'd be pretty much repeating myself over and over about how insane it was. BTW, all the happy-power of MDMA couldn't stop me from wanting to kick some tool who was chanting "MARK EG" during the finale of j00f's set in the balls.
Stuck around to hear Mark EG get started, and to be honest, he was pretty shit. I left to go check out the DNB stage (Capital J was on at that time I think), and had a good fucking time there instead. LOL @ the people who were comlaining of the dust at the 4-4 stage. You guys should have come into the middle of the DNB stage. It was insanely dusty there - at times it looked like the cannon just went off in the Guv. Although I didn't mind that too much (actually I didn't mind at all, but I can see how it would annoy shorter people
) - people dancing and dusty is better than people not dancing and not dusty.
Somewhere around this time I finally ran into MeatKatie, and shortly thereafter into Jen again, and off we went to see The BeatFreakers. They started off with something, I dunno what it was, but it wasn't Breaks. But luckily they eventually settled into their Breaks style, and their set was good from there on.
I was getting pretty fucking tired at this point, so I made plans with Jen and Kates to meet up again during Krafty Kuts' set, while I went back to my campsite to recharge. The people at the neighbouring campsite wanted to see Krafty as well, so we decided to all go together, unfortunately, they loafted like mad, and we got there at like 4:15, and I didn't catch neither Jen nor Katie. Krafty Kuts was awesome. Breaks at the DNB stage was MMmmmmmmmm.
At this point the night starts to get pretty blurry for me - I was hopping back and forth from the 4-4 to the DNB stage all the while loking for Katie's campsite (there goes that 'mark that shit on the map' reminder again), so remembering who I saw at what time is pretty much impossible. What I do remember though, is that at around that time, I never before wanted to be in 2 places at once as desperately as I did. Both main stages had siiiiiiiiiick music playing nonstop, and I didn't want to leave and miss out on any one of them.
I'm pretty sure I caught the end of Anne Savage's set, and Bratan's set, and they were playing some nice hard tunes without any slowdowns - just what I needed to keep me moving. speaking of which, I was pretty suprised to only find a small bunch of TAs still dancing it up (among the ones I recognized were Jem and Jay, so honorable mentions go out to you two) at 6am. Man, I thought you guys were hardcore, pffft. KKEFKA, btw, is a dancing machine. Props to you man.
I think I went to sleep around 7, although I have no recollection of when I actually fell asleep, because I remember lying in the tent, trying to fall asleep, while my arms and legs were still moving by themselves in time to the beat of the 4-4 stage.
Sunday was fucking awesome. Nice and warm and sunny. The perfect weather to recuperate from the night before on. I was actually surprised that there was no music Sunday morning, because I expected the music to go on till closing time. So we went to the beach a couple of times (the water in the lake was a lot clearer and warmer than I expected), then slowly packed up and left. On the drive back, we stop by this Timmies/Mr.Sub/Wendys to have some food, and find it filled with sketched out WEMFers from the night before, and all the adults giving them dirty looks. It was hilarious.
Overall, it was the best musical experience of my life. WEMF combined the best aspects of music and camping in an incredible way, making for a totally kickass time every minute that we were there. I'll be remembering this weekend for a while, a loong while.
P.S. It sucked that there was barely any cellphone reception anywhere in the park - that made finding the people who you wanted to chill with really fucking hard, lol.
P.P.S. ROFL @ the people not getting Vivid's comments and taking them seriously and literally.
P.P.P.S. Theresa, you make me feel like a fucking giant. I recognized you, but didn't get a chance to talk to you.
P.P.P.P.S. Besides the people I already mentioned, it was nice meeting KKEFKA, Az, Ben, and MaxTO. I don't think I'm forgetting anybody, but I probably am.

good idea, at least with the outdoor stages there wasnt any "rave gravy" all over the ground like in most of the concrete floored venus..... that stuff can eat holes in clothing, infact its eaten the cuffs off of a few pairs of my pants. usually its a combination of spilled water and drinks, crushed up party flyers, sweat and condesation, dirt and grime, glowstick contents, spilled drugs and any other possible substance that ends up on the floor at a party.....
HAHAHAHAH "RAVE GRAVY" AHAAHHA OMG OMG OMG I'M CRACKING UP!!!

WEMF 3DAY - I got about 3.5 hours sleep, and then only bc I forced myself, not bc I reallywanted to. Thank god I did, otherwise, NO way id have had the energy I did to go to the end! HIPPIE TRIPS are the best! |

holy shit im still laughing! So many jokes things happened this weekend and i cant even begin to explain them all. IT was my 2nd time at WEMF and boy was it better then the first time. Thought the site was awsome and loved the outside stages. Music was good, and friends were even better. holy shit Todd and Jamie, i cant even explain, im still laughing. Andrew ur set was fantastic, dennis im sorry i missed urs, stupid line took so dam long to move to get in! Jelo's set was also one of my fav's, enjoyed the first half better then the second half but overall it was awsome. Not a fan of UK Hardhouse, so i kinda peaced out, but overall tunes were good. Made an appearance to the DnB stage a couple times and rocked out there for a bit, but found the crowd kinda a buzz killer, so the wondering continued.
I think ur friends really make WEMF a truly great experince and feel lucky to have such great ones who came along for the shitshow
. After reading some posts about some TA's not saying hi back or whatever the issue was, Ya it is kinda rude not to say hi back, but honestly u only know ppl through a website...u dont really know eachother, and those who do seem to be good friends with people are clearly friends from before or have taken the time to make friendships, so i dont think ppl should take it to heart so much.
I hope everyone who went had an awsome time, and i hope this wasnt the last wemf, but if it is, boy did it leave me with some fantastic memories
p.s. thanks andrew for being my WEMF god, and thank Alex again for the ride up
The funnies wernt just restricted to after passing security, i think the guy who searched us when we first got in either wanted to make us laugh or smack him on his face.
Security: So where are your drugs
Me: We got alcohol in the car (if you count that as a drug)
Security: You're lying, everyone who comes in here has drugs on them
Me: Well we dont so does that mean we cant get in?
Security: What if i told you we had a drug dog
Me: The only thing illegal hes going to find are glass bottles.
Security: Hand them over and step out of the car.
ROFL. same happened to us.
On the way in, the cop comes up, and goes "So, where are you guys going?", when we're 5 feet away from the gate to WEMF.
also, we got asked if we had any illegal drugs we wanted to let him know about when we were leaving. Yeah yeah buddy, we'll let you know all about it.
you should have told the cop that some women find the 16" black penis in your pants a drug........
