as much fun as it is to make light of the issue, i hardly think that rebelling in this manner (ie; making even more noise, etc) will help resolve it, likely will make things worse and make their complaints even more legit

(i realise you were being over the top, but people have mentioned that island party - and plan on being even louder due to this case)

Let me probably be the first to ask, but what did the Docks do to try and work with the residents to avoid this?

i heard they drastically lowered the sound levels over the past year
(and from the one party i attended, definately noticed it)

Posted by Jayx1 on Jul-25-2006 15:17:

they brought in engineers and tried to soundproof the building. But in reality what could they do? These residents will whine no matter what.

There is something obvious that has been missed.

First:If the city doesnt want this place to exist then why did they grant the licence in the first place?

Second: If they force the docks to close, what will happen to the grandiose plans that are in the works to turn the portlands into a tourist attraction including nightclubs, aquariums, and a casino? Can such a small group of people affect such a large part of the city like that? Can so few people affect the lives of so many? Sadly, in canada the answer is yes.

This is a very good point..
Imo, a world class city is characterized by its quality of entertainment value, cultural activities and booming business. If people are looking for a quiet place to live, I don't how they rationalize this expectation if they live in close proximity to such activities. Go live in the suburbs...

better yet go live in the country. Because im sure these are the same type of people that would complain about lawnmowers, air conditioners, and loud children playing on the street

Posted by colonelcrisp on Jul-25-2006 15:33:

better yet, lets save some money, buy a few of the houses, and then rent them out cheap to jarvis hookers and crack heads, convert one of them to an HA club house and basically fill the island with lowlifes and social deviants that wont complain about the noise issue. then once we have all these types of people on the island..... stop the ferry service. this will

A: eliminate the bitchy islanders problem

B: clean up the sketchy jarvis area

C: keep all the social deviants etc out of toronto, alcatraz style.....

i will definately register and post all events in the event forum in there... that way, if they miss the noise from the docks, there will be an alternative.

Well that's a great idea! I couldn't have thought of a better one my self. We could hire a contractor and ask him/her to flood the island! It would take some work but it's doable.

It's very sad news b/c I was planning on having all my meetings there. I guess that plan goes out the window.

Naw. What the CITY should do is turn the TO Islands and the entire waterfront area into a huge tourist, chill, club, party area to begin with. I look at it as though it is a way to revitalize the tourism in the city. When they had the "Toronto Fest" or whatever it is/was in Yonge and Dundas or other areas from what I could tell on TV the crowd was just dead, no real energy, a change in the location may help? Remove the residents of the islands in the interests of public tourism. World class city my ASS.

As you all now know The Docks is in danger of being closed down, we need your support

please open the following link

www.thedocks.com and click on SUPPORT US.

We need letters of support stating why they support The Docks and/or why we still should still be able to operate. We provide this city with an amazing outlet for all tourists, residents, local businesses and as well for our own staff and partners. Please speak up, we will need all the letters we can get. Even short letters are fine, they do not need to be long.

Wow that's just fantastic Damn media... what a feeding frenzy they're inciting

Posted by colonelcrisp on Jul-26-2006 02:41:

everyone should start calling in noise complaints about the islanders, saying their croquet games and tea parties are keeping you awake..

Jon Edward:

The island is not a good place to live. They are a bunch of whiney babies. They are sad because a night club makes more money in 1 night than the residents of the island make in a year. Most of the residents of the island are old waste of skin mother fkers who dont deserve to live anymore. Their children are ashamed of them and I hope there is a terrorist attack on the island. The Docks night club has done more for the city of toronto than anyone who lives on the island can ever dream of doing. I will now make REGULAR visits to the island to egg your houses. Half of you are immagrant mother******s who arent even canadian and you complain about an establishment that supports our economy more than you old farts have for your entire lives. I hope you all live a painfull and excruciating remainder of your lives.
