I had a blast as always. I don't really follow the trance scene too much anymore, but PVD never dissapoints me. I'm sure there was some to be desired for with his set, but I wasn't there to nit pick it apart. I had a blast hanging out with everyone, hearing some classics, and getting drunk in the park. Can't wait til next year!

track of the night for me was Murder Was The Bass. That track never gets old.

Max Graham afterward was awesome as well. Thanks to Sleepy and Boo for having me in the basement. Awesome sets from all the djs last night.

all the top DJ's have people time-warping every track on ableton so it seems like it never fails. but ask any bedroom DJ who has to go in and adjust everything himself and he'll tell you what a pain it is.

If you know what you're doing, warping a track shouldn't take longer than 3 minutes - maybe 5 if you're warping a vinyl rip that isn't keeping constant time...

PvD's set was ok. I don't really go to these CP events to see PvD anymore. It's all just about hearing EDM outside in the late summer for me.

well, that depends...to match up the intro/outro usually takes about 3 min...but if you want to be able to mix out at any point in the track, it takes a while longer. and it depends on the accuracy ur after too. to get rid of all resonance/transients in the mix caused by vinyl rips would take hours.

anyway, pvd's set on sat was good. clever use of ableton, although the laptop screwup was unexpected

Had a pretty good time today hearing PVD.

What i hated it was the FUCKING DISGUSTING BEER THEY HAD. 7 bucks for this piss-shit. We drank a case and a half before the show, so we dont have to spend money on this Brooklyn Shit Brewery.

Of course, the lines for the bathroom were horrible. Bad fucking job to whoever manages this shit. idiots. My friend pissed in 3 cups while standing in the line waiting.

This shit is getting worse and worse.

The drummer fucked up alot of times, like he never heard the songs before and didnt know how to coordinate.

Paul spun some good tracks. He was with the crowd today and i had a blast like usual when i see him. If it wasnt for PVD this show would suck ass.

There was TONS AND TONS of polish, russian and slovakian people. I was suprised and i met alot of them. Alot of hot girls too.

I took alot of pics, but im not going through them today.

late

SebG, I agree with you a 100%. AVB by Made Events was organized much better!!!

Just back....

PVD tore it up!!!! All those reviews from Friday night must have meant two different shows. Paul was lively and interactive and having a great time. The only other time I remember him being like this was at Ultra in 2005. Too many familiar tunes to mention, many of which sounded like new mixes including 4 Strings, plus his trademark stuff (Nothing But You, For an Angel). He ended with Alter Ego - Rocker, then For An Angel, Crush and Time of Our Lives. He also played two tunes that I would never expect from PVD - The Egg - Walking Away and the Trentmoller mix of Royksopp - What Else Is There, both well pitched up. The crowd was definitely into it, the lighting was great and the sound top notch. Only one glitch throughout the night when some of Paul's equipment failed for a few minutes during Dogzilla - Without You (wonder how that moment will transer to Sirius). The drummer was also a really nice touch as well. Another nice touch was at the very end PVD and the drummer walked right up to the crowd, where Paul grabbed a banner saying 'Thank You' and then held it up to show everyone.

I had an awesome time, from what I hear he played some songs that he played Fri but its all good he started to spin hard @ like 8ish. I went to the after party @ Novecento. Just got in. I made it home alive but my head is pounding. Pics tomorrow I promise

Can't decide if tonight was better than last night. Both nights had the fast relentless thing I like, and a little unevenness here and there. But tonight he did play Red Blue Purple (Marco V), love that. And I'm a giant sucka for Clocks. Can't help it.

Posted by southbound24 on Aug-20-2006 15:14:

I went both nights and had the best time, I mean the top DJ in the world at Central Park, the weather was beautiful, even the little rain felt good, I cant see it getting better than this, looking around at the lasers on the trees, trance blaring, crowd moving, the live drums, in the best city in the world. You had to be all the way up front to get the energy from PVD and the crowd, I felt this year was 200 times better than last year, I of course like the Sander Van Doorn,Marco V style and I think PVD was playing a hard trance set but with some great breaks and nice vocals. I look foward to this event as much as Ultra and Ibiza, one of the great settings and venues in the world. The diverse crowd was typical NY, from 5 to 50, black, white, you name it. If you love trance and love hearing the recent "anthems'tha PVD would have did it for you, as muc as I enjoyed it. I hope Made earned some$$$, and does 2 shows all the time. Listen the beer/bathroom situation does suck, no denying that, but the event, lighting, sound, and most importantly DJ are top notch. After being always disappointed by Tiesto, this feels reedeming to go see a "big" name DJ who plays an outstanding set, hopefully i have a copy of this on my ipod for years to come. In New york where there was beatstock, the rock concert at randalls, and a million other things to do, its nice to see the trance scene can support such an event.Great seeing Euphoria!!

I will not go see pvd again..this is the 2nd time I was disappointed by his set. there were a few good tracks but overall, I just couldn't get into it much.

All the friends I was with agreed that it would have been better later in the night. I had fun but more for being with friends than for seeing PVD. We all sorta knew what to expect after reading reviews of Friday night. Oh well it was something to do on Saturday.

Posted by AY STAR on Aug-20-2006 15:42:

after readin such dissapointin reviews from friday night i was a lil worried that the night would suck and i took a day off from work would be a shitty move
i got there around 6:30 due to the fact the mta kept fukin up trains and shit thanks alot
but once inside pvd put me in a whole other mind frame the crowd the music the visuals everything was great
pvd's set was not mind blowing stuff but it was good and i enjoyed myself he did alot of mash-up's and stuff with his laptop which was cool and i felt he had a balanced level between the hard techy stuff and some trance
the rain was all good it dident rain that hard and it felt kind of good when it hit your skin it cooled u down a lil bit and the crowd dident even care
i never seen paul sooo crazy behind a booth he is usally a fukin mute
he came out at the end to sign stuff and took a sign out of someones hand that said thank you and held it up and put it on his booth and continued to play and go nuts
when he came down to sign stuff i got a poster and he signed it and i asked him when he is commin back he said november so thats a lil heads up for all you pvd heads
tracks i remember:
as the rush comes over playmo
he teased into the night for like 2 min over some techy beat which was cool
crush
time of our lives
rank1- breathing!!!!!!!!!!!
and i got a vid i took of this really amazing track i deff need an id someone please hook it up thanks

grrrrr and i heard this set was recorded by pvd for his mix show or somethin anyone got a link?
and yea that drummer was pretty cool i mean on some songs the beat was totally off i dont think he was on but other tracks he was dead on but the snare was too high the sound guy could have lowered it

maybe it is just me but i see people in this threads and in other pvd review threads talking about him playing "hard" tracks. i just dont get it. when i think of hard tracks i think of the stuff he used to play like:

dreamland
club attack
desire (4 strings mix)
M (above and byond mix)
sun decade - i'm alone
modulation - spirits
st john vs locust - mind circles

(this is only a few tracks that i looked up from the rips of his livesets that i have collected over the years)

this stuff he spins now just isnt hard. the buildups suck, the melodies are just meeh. he sounds nothing like he used to. you could say "he just changed his style, it evolved and maybe you should to." I'm sorry i just dont feel that way. i know that trance doesnt sound like it did 4 or so years ago, or even further back then but there is still good stuff out there. i mean look at the last 2 1/2 hours of armin's brooklyn set. awesome energy and songs that werent as slow as 100 bpm. i would have killed to hear a song like lift, exactly, or even arisen last night.

i just cant believe that i used to love pvd so much when i first started going to see him live back in 02 and he plays like this now. last night was the final straw, i'm done paying $30 and up to see him when he comes here.

i can understand the first 45 minutes of last night being a more mellow tempo begining because a: it's daylight and b: cause of that drummer playing along to the music. by about 7 or so he had lost me. i kept saying that all i wanted was for pvd to give the drummer a nice 5 minute solo and then get him the fuck off the stage. ok a interesting gimmick having him play live, yes but not the whole night.

pvd may not consider himself a trance dj, but that is what made him famous. he needs to go back to that. i just dont consider what he plays trance anymore. very little of what he played last night had that "trancy feel" to it that you would get when he used to play NY. i have talked to people that have seen him recently in berlin and elsewhere besides here and say he plays completely different. why did he stop playing that way in NY?

overall if i had wanted to hear the tempo of the set that was going to be played last night, i would want to hear that stuff sitting at home, not when i am out trying to dance.

i'm glad that some of you had a good time. i wish i did. seems like i have said that too much the past few pvd gigs that i have gone to.

Posted by bogartgreens on Aug-20-2006 16:51:

was a lil disappointed with PvD's set last nite but the crowd and vibe was fun...opened up kinda slow imo, and he dropped a lot of stuff from the night before..it was fun hearing the egg - walking away and the trentemoller remix of what else is there, even if its not really his style at all...track of the night for me was Rank 1 - Breathing..overall it was fun, but AvB's saturday night set @ the tobacco warehouse was much better imo..good seein some of u guys again, have def listened to enough trance to last me awhile

If falling off the #1 spot is his excuse to do this then I say he should never be allowed to be #1 again.
