Paul van Dyk: His sound has gone to absolute shit this year. Too much electro and house for my taste. I'll always love his stuff from 1999 - 2005.

Armin van Buuren: I only saw him "bring it" once, and that was at Trance Energy 2006. After that he's just played too proggy and boring for me.

Sadly, indeed VERY SADLY for me, I have to agree w/ you. and i hate it

Posted by SgtFoo on Sep-20-2006 04:57:

PPL... you gotta remember something... promoters and party production teams ask the DJs they bring about genres they'll play and "advise" the DJs on what vibe they want the party to have, or just what they think the crowd will want to hear....

so if some of you are going to an Armin show and hear no trance, it's because of any of these reasons:.a) he left it at home .b)they told him to play less of it .c)he isn't closing the show

From my own opinion, I agree with VERTiGO on how I can only get excited about a DJ playing stuff if it's epic trance... real uplifiting stuff is what brought me to the music and I miss it... Heck, I'd play it out if there was a demand for it

And to top it off... the electro-bass sound has leaked into all the genres of trance and prog too. Progressive DJs used to play progressive.... but now they play electr-progressive... it's not teh same for me anymore.

Ferry has been incorporating a lot of electro in his sets as well as his productions. The only good set I've heard from him this year was his Mayday set. A little electro isn't too bad, but too much of it can get boring and annoying very fast. Electro seems to be the "in" thing now since more and more DJs are playing it. From my personal standpoint I only hope it's a phase that will suffer a quick but painful death.

uhhh, where exactly does this happen?

i've never heard of an international dj being 'advised' as to what genres to play. you think just because trance dj's are now starting to play house and electro it's because the booking agent told them to? you're wrong. they either play it because they like the sound, or they think it will make them more marketable, period.

his Right of Way album was the start of this. Although I really liked that album, but I know quite a few ppl that loved him prior and just absolutely hated that album.

Posted by Cribby on Sep-20-2006 18:09:

I too, am not a fan of Ferry's 'electro' sound. I'm glad I arrived when I did at Decadence...when he started to play some trance and older stuff. <3

You clearly know nothing of Electro and should subject yourself to a similar (but perhaps less somber) fate as you wished on Electro.

I saw 2ManyDJs last night and they play Electroclash and they ABSOLUTELY DESTROYED THE PLACE. Also if you think electro is so bad, then you clearly dont like: Digweed/Lawler/Sander/Seb Fontaine? And if you dont like 2 or more of those DJs you're a total n00b and should retire from the scene and never go out anymore. And please dont even bother responding with "MUSIC IS PERSONAL PREFERENC", yes it is, to an extent, but if you like trance and diss electro you're stupid because one genre was around a longtime before the other and will remain around a lot longer for a reason. HINT: THE GENRE THAT WONT BE AROUND FOR A WHILE STARTS WITH A T AND ENDS WITH RANCE!!!

Toronto blows. My post probably wont even get read cause I didnt use a colored font.

As for DJs I'll never go and see again:

1) Danny Tenaglia
2) Tiesto
3) Armin
4) Ferry
5) Tiga
6) Any hardcore/hard trance/gabber DJ
7) Pretty much all techno djs
8) Pretty much all trance djs too
9) Prolly all Toronto Djs also, DJ CN Tower, lawl.

On a scale of 1 to 10 of levels of stupidity, you come in at 11.

Also, ELECTRO BLOWS HUGE CHUNKS OF SHIT. How'd you like that?

Don't go to TiL on Nov 3rd then
He's back....

(sorry, I had to post it here.. didn't want to get troubles for starting a thread that would be shutdown )

For people (like me) who were big into Les Rhythmes Digitals (Stuart Price and all his aliases) and Thomas Bangalter's solo stuff, this resurgance of electro is like the second coming of Christ.

As was previously mentioned, Ferry was on the electro route long before he produced L.E.F.

It's all a huge cycle. I can see hoovers coming back in a big way shortly.

DJ Misjah & DJ Tim - Access (2007 remake) anyone???

*shudder*

I tried. Hell could only accomodate me for a few days before forcing me to leave.

No, I don't care for any of those DJs. Not my thing, and that's putting it nicely, compared to what I used to say. Ask Jem if anyone what my stance on electro and house is.

If it's a Hoover I don't supposed pulling the plug would help, would it?

You forgot to add humans....

Everytime I thought that I would never this a particular dj again ...he/she delivered the following gig.

Biggest example is Paul Oakenfold @ Decadence...he rocked that nite.
So I dun think there is any dj I would not like to see again except for hip hop djs. Every dj has a good and a bad phase, always an artist though...

Posted by waynoinsano on Sep-20-2006 23:39:

this thread is fiesty... i like it.

comming in at Number 1 - MARK OLIVER.
this guy is the king of hit and miss. no crowd interaction once so ever. its like the guy is spinning in a room with no windows and no sound. i know some poeple love/hate the dj dancing/cheering/jesus pose, but i mean come on. your not some factory button presser, at least LOOK happy for fawk sakes.
mark oliver has so much bloody potential its numbing. unfortunately he comes through once ina while. and thats not good enough for the best club in Canada (imo).

Number 2 - Digweed
*ducks and covers. unfortunately i just am not phased by this guy. however i have only seen him live once.

Number 3 - greyarea - ewwwww
i can think of more, but not right now

you know what you are, the edm version of gay people mocking fashion, no one cares for your oppinion exept for gay people

Posted by orange_j on Sep-21-2006 01:51:

This thread blows... i mean so what you have deep dish 10 times, it dosent mean they suck. And who cares if some DJ has changed their sound. I mean, i hate seein these comments about how awsome so and so's set was from 2001. Each year new songs come out: some good some bad and some plain annoying...the DJ's sound will constantly be changing. We cant go back to decadence 03. DEAL WITH IT. In 3 years you will all be saying "I wish sander k/deep dish/ferry/any DJ played like the did in 2006 , that sh!t was amazing!!"
The only DJ's i will never see again are those who litteraly suck at DJing (poor mixing) and have no passion for the music.

Well at least think of it as indirect advise. It doesn't matter who you are, you're gonna want to know what the local city of where you're playing it into in terms of their EDM club-scene. The DJs play differently in different cities worldwide because of this indirect information sharing. Sometimes even the managers of the labels owned by some DJs influence a few of the tracks played... it's no secret.
You're entirely correct on..

they either play it because they like the sound, or they think it will make them more marketable

... but those aren't the only things...
and this doesn't only apply to the trance DJs.... everyone get an influence one way or another.
