lol. kids think they've grown up and all when they turn 18. To them, Mom is a stupid bitch and Dad deserve to die a painful death.

Yet they are unable to apply their newly discovered wisdom to do physics 101 homeworks.

There is a reason why the Government doesn't give them license to drink until they turn 21.

I respect my mother more than anyone else in the world. She gives me more things than I deserve, because I have given her quite a few scares in my time growing up. I have alot of growing up to do, I admit. I am sure of one thing, though. My father is an asswipe, and fortunately you will never know him to understand why I feel the way that I do.

That is a very well constructed sentence! No explanation is given, as to why you would make such a comment. I guess I shouldn't expect it from someone who can't sound like a mature adult.

places like the united states where you have ridiculous things like child abuse control is why you have so many fucked up people.. grounding your kids is a pathetic way to discpline your child because thats where they sit in their rooms and start getting despicable thoughts that overwhelm some of them

some people in this thread should be ashamed of themselves for writing such horrible things about their parents ... if you dont like them you should still have that much repsect not to make public your thoughts for 2 people who raised you ...

oh shut the hell up. what do you know about raising children and being abused? clearly nothing.

first of all, there is a big difference between wacking your kid on the ass for being a little shithead, and coming home every night, drunk and looking to wail on someone, and beating your kids for no damn reason. THAT is why there are so many fucked up people in this world, not just america. or what about a young girl whose dad mollested her for her entire childhood? you think she should respect her father just because he created her?

im neither married nor fathering illegitimate children so maybe thats why i dont know about the being a father part but i know a thing or two about being a good son which you clearly seem to lack

im assuming you had some issues with your father in your childhood and im sorry if you did but going and bitching your dad in public is not the right thing to do ...

not only does it not help your cause and show insecurity and loneliness on your part but i also believe that the way you act towards your parents is prolly going to be your attitude towards your wife/husband and kids in the long term.. watever happened to you is in the past so i suggest you grow up a little and learn from your dads mistakes rather than vent your frustration in places most ppl couldnt care less

seems like its an asian thing that no matter how much ur you hate your parents, they're still your parents and you have to respect them.

i think a main reason is because of the retarded high cost of living in north america both parents often have to get long hour jobs and the kids get neglected because of that .. and the children also have to start earning their own spending money way before college so they end up feeling independent before they should and then the whole leaving the house at 18 thing also hurts the cause of both parents and kids

Posted by Slylee on Sep-26-2006 13:39:

Actually, my father has been the single most positive influence on me out of everyone else in my life. I love and respect him more than anything. I knew you were going to assume that I have issues with my father, but if you read, you would notice that I didnt once say that I was speaking from personal experience. Its just that I'm not living under a rock (as you seem to be), and Im aware of the fact that there are millions of unfit parents out there in this world who should have never been able to enjoy the gift of a baby in the first place, and who deserve no respect at all.

i was just trying to point out that no one in here seemed to think for a minute about the fact that we dont have a clue about the thread starters father and what he is like. For all we know, he could be a wife beater, beating the kids mom every day for the last 10 years. If that was the case, would you still be lecturing him/us about how we need to respect our parents just because they gave us life?

Think about what Im saying before you respond. I dont think youre getting my point. While I dont agree with emotional, verbal, or physical abuse, I also dont think that its a ticket for the abused person to become a complete fuckup for the rest of his or her life, blaming the abuse, so I agree with whomever was trying to make that point. There comes a point where you need to take control again and make the decision to not let the abuse control your life any more. But Im sure thats easier said than done.

Posted by Moral Hazard on Sep-26-2006 13:52:

This idea that you have to love and respect your parents is simply incorrect. Sure, there is a genetic predisposition for parents to love their children... that is necessary for the survival of the species. In turn, as children most people love their parents because they provide what is necessary to survive. As we age and can fend for ourselves this all becomes moot. Once of sufficient age, strenght, and skill we no longer need our parent's support to survive. It is at this point that love toward one's parents becomes unnecessary.... it is at this point we either choose to love and respect them or we do not. Some people warent love and respect, others do not, parents are no exception. I can certainly understand why this may be difficult for someone who has been blessed with good parents to understand, however, that does not make it any less true.
