Don't get me wrong, more than half of them couldn't mix a salad let alone put a clean set together, but for what they are doing, they do their job well. They're not out to bang out some over the top production, introduce new music and sounds, or even break out internationally. They play the tracks that people want to hear and usually to a crowd that isn't that involved or interested in the scene, but just want to party and get wasted. I think alot of us are assuming that the majority of people are going out to hear fresh music and really good DJ'ing skills, because honestly I'd say it's only about 25% that are. With the likes of Greg, Sean, Luke, Brad and even Nathan as of late...these are the guys that, in my opinion, are the only ones with true passion for music and the scene in Toronto...it's extremely rare to hear any of them play a duplicate set (give or take a few tracks) from the last time you heard them.

I could not have said it any better...except I think Deko-Ze is head and shoulders (and torso even!) above the others in the circuit of DJs he plays with at Guv/CZ/TIL.

I would also add that it's sad that our city's most popular DJs are happy with going out and playing the same set every weekend and not advancing things musically for their audience. I appreciate that not all of their regular supporters really care whether they do or not - it's just disappointing for the rest of us.

^^^I agree with you guys...very well said...It is true that they play tracks that pple want to hear but can u blame them? If you have been out in TO and seen the crowd you would understand...For example...Manzone and Strong at This is London or Sky BAr...always very similar sets and always the same crowd...(I do enjoy coming out to both of these places but I don't do it often because it does get boring at times...Especially the crowd that TiL attracts...)Then I have heard Manzone, Nathan and Carlo at a couple different underground clubs and let me tell you that they rocked my world. I danced for 7 hours with very short breaks for a cigarette completely sober). All I'm trying to say is that we should not make them look bad on here...afterall they are OUR local djs...They have very good potentials to be much bigger, but it's totally up to them to decide how comfortable they at their standings currently...p.s. M&S have been offered a gig in Cancun, Mexico... congrats to them they deserve the best...

It's very stupid how u like to trash him and most of the other local djs when you probably go out to places(and there aren't many) where they are spinning and you probably have been there more than a few times and have enjoyed your night out. I agree with one of the comments earlier where pple post shit when they don't even understand how it all works...Whatever all I know is that we have a lot of pple here who post shit only b/c they have nothing else to do...N/Eway I support Addy all the way and all the other local djs...I have to say that they have never let me down!
p.s. After listening to a lot of other international djs' sets I remember saying to Manzone: "Fuck all these international djs, it's all about u guys"...............

i shed a tear....i really did...

You just felt like kissing his ass, good for you!
and a big LOL @ "Fuck all these international djs" -

And it's funny how you go on defending Addy while having a beautiful username such as *TiEsTo*SuX*. I think Addy is just a good friend of yours and there's nothing too wrong with you being frustrated because your friend got bashed on music forums by a few people..

interesting comments, some valid points for sure. Guys like Luke Fair and Sean Miller are awesome for completely different reasons than Addy.

P.S. Carlo Lio is goin places, the next Max Graham, you watch

I don't care who the DJ is....local or international....if I am dancing for their entire set then the DJ was good...if not...the DJ sucked....if I fall asleep then I was at Armin or Tiesto

I don't think she is kissing his ass, I am a fan of Manzone and strong and sometimes I do perfer them over the big DJ's. Lets face it most of them are going Electro. I have been partyin for five years. I have seen many a DJ and I remember the good ol days, music was a lot better back in the day. I think locals do as good of a job if not better than some of the international DJ's that we pay big money for, with the exception of some classic trance DJ's like Armin everyone sounds sorta the same that are main stream that play for the crowds. You have your underground tribal and such which are a different but even Carl Cox on Wed sounded Electro. Everyone is Electro, as long as they slam it down and I dance all night with a smile on my face I am happy and thats whats is all about, having fun. If you want to be critical, write an artical for a magazine or paper from the comfort of your own home.

reason being, they are told what they should spin based on what the promoter/club says the TO people like.

stanton warriors is the most recent example where i was personally told that they were told what to play as the "scene" is this way here and thats the only way to please us.

then we wonder why the TO scene is so far behind

that probably explains carl cox's electro house performance

I think guys like Addy are better suited for the rap/hiphop scene. Guys who show off their skills and the performance becomes about their skills, not the music. He could play around with the mixer, scratch, dance, flip flop, stop the record all he wants at the rap parties without playing a single track and no one would care.

I think the problem with the scene in Toronto is the complete lack of creativity, almost entirely. There's a few (and I mean a FEW) DJ's out there right now that impress me, whereas most others just do the same thing. They play the same sound, same tunes, to the same mindless crowd. It blows me away how there's SO MUCH great music out there, and practically every DJ in Toronto feels compelled to play the same crowd-pleasing sound. The hard, hands-up-in-the-air house sound non-stop. It's getting to the point where I'm sick of partying because there's nothing new out there.

Some people will say "I don't care as long as the beat is good and I'm dancing then everythings great!!!11!!". Thats great. There's nothing with having a good time, but if that's all you're expecting out of a DJ then please, go to a top 40 club because there's no difference between spinning random house tunes and random top 40 tunes. What always set the underground scene apart from the commercial one is the passion behind it. The strive to move music forward and not ride the same formula the whole time...and unfortunately, that mentality in Toronto seems to be a lost one, because most people don't demand anything more out of DJ's except "TUNES"

Sorry but it's as much about the skills as it is about the music. If a DJ has all those effects at his disposal then by all means he (or she) should use them. The problem with most electronic music DJ's is that they think it's all about matching the beats of two songs and that's it. Which leads back to my original point that the crowd doesn't demand anything more than that, and this in turn, creates a plethora of sub-par DJ's who only go as far as mixing two tracks together and that's it. Things like key mixing, programming, moving the tempo up and down or even mixing up the rhythm of a set, seem like lost concepts nowadays.

Addy is pretty good. I think he is certainly better than GirlZone & Weak in my humble opinion.
