First off...a huge Happy 10th to the Guvernment - hard to believe its been ten years for Toronto's crown club already! In those ten years I have to say I have been exposed to some of the best worldwide DJ talent thanks to the Guvernment bringing in all our favourites as well as the up and commers. Big props to Mark for being the mainstay resident DJ all these years and helping to elevate our local talent to new heights with the global community. Putting aside all the beefs we've all had with overcrowding, being too hot and nasty in there and the many other complaints, I think we all agree that the Guvernment has been a big part of putting Toronto on the map in terms of the dance music scene. So much so that guys like Armin, Ferry etc. have personally referenced Guvernment as being one of their top spots to play! That is pretty impressive. But with the amount of work that went into putting together one of the best audio and visual clubbing environments, its no surprise they're so impressed. Thanks Guvernment for the last ten years and here's hoping for another 10 great years!

Onto the night...Kenneth had just gone on by the time we got in (was nice to bypass the line and get in nice and quick!) He was throwing down an impressive set as usual - always blown away by this guy! Awesome job getting the crowd going and spinning a bunch of tunes I haven't heard before - fantastic job. Only wish I could say the same about his label boss and successor on the decks. Good god does Oakenfold not find a new way to stink it up every time! Don't get me wrong I am one of those that enjoyed his earlier works and had a lot of respect for what he did for Trance back in the day but wow did he ever go downhill fast. I avoid him when possible so after the first track (which was decent) we took off for the Orange Room where Crystal Method was doing a fantastic job and provided a much appreciated relief from Oakie's disaster in the KH. I don't think I remember seeing a DJ cut off the previous DJ's track and flip into his...it was horrible! Couldn't even crossfade into his track - I'm not big on needing DJ's to be absolutely technically perfect but that was unacceptable from any level of DJ. Came back into KH for the last 20 mins of his set at which point he had actually gone way back to some old school trance which was great - too bad his entire set wasn't the same. A brief glimpse into the great DJ he used to be. Anyway I'm sure there's some Oakie fans on here that would disagree but anyway that's my humble opinion.

Needless to say we were estatic when he was finally done and Second Sun took to the stage to do their live PA which I was really happy they were doing instead of just a DJ set. We saw them up close in Miami at the Pool Party and their performance was definitely one of the highlights for me. Once again they put on an amazing show blending live vocals, samples and part laptop DJ'ing. I have to say and I think everyone will agree that their re-work on the "This is not Miami > This is Toronto" track was awesome! What a way to get the local crowd into your performance if they weren't already! Awesome job guys! They also did a nice job on performing Depeche Mode's Dream on Live with their vocals and dropping some great trance tracks near the end.

Next up was the guy I was really anticipating seeing...Sander Van Doorn. All I can say is Oh My God. Anyone that was even thinking of leaving...feeling tired...couldn't dance anymore..got a serious kick in the ass! WOW...this guy is definitely the guy to watch out for! Definitely the set of the night for me. I absolutely love his hard, dark style and how well he transitioned between that and some more trancey tracks yet keeping this really dark vibe to it. I didn't see anyone NOT dancing for his set...it was unbelievable. He dropped Pumpkin, Sun Goes Down, a different take on Dark Roast and his remix of Control Freak and Love you more - two Armin tracks back-to-back! I highly recommend seeing him the next time he comes to town - you will not be disappointed. He was really into the crowd as well and looked to be having an awesome time!

The only negative I'd have on the night is the idiotic one-way traffic scheme that the staff use on All Access nights. I know I've said it before but this is the stupidest system I've ever seen in a club - and only here. Guys seriously let people make their way back and forth as they please! It really serves no purpose but to confuse, frustrate and annoy your patrons. There's absolutely no need to direct people one way through the complex. Thankfully it was nowhere near as packed as LoL so there's even less reason to interfere with the people traffic. Your staff could be better used throughout the club to deal with other 'situations'. I sincerely hope this system is abandoned for future events as it really is unnecessary and I think most people would agree.

Anyway had an awesome time and again was really impressed with most of the acts. Didn't really have much expectations so it was nice to be impressed by the likes of KT, Sander, Second Sun and Crystal Method. Would have liked to have checked out some of our fantastic locals up in the Drink but it was way too packed.

Was good to see my friends: RJ, Margaret, Shaya (thanks again man!), John T, and Rich - good hanging with all of you in our many outings at the Guv!

Happy 10th Guvernment and Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!

I wont waste too much time with a long review no one will read, so I'll just say:
-Overall the night was amazing. Great music all round.
-The top two performances of the night for me were Sander and Crystal Method.
-CM had amazing yet very odd crowd interaction. They were bouncing off the walls and at one point Scott Kirkland jumped the stage and started partying with the crowd while Ken Jordan was playing. lol
-Sander played a perfect set for his time slot... at 5am, it need to be hard and aggressive to keep ppl movin, and he fuckin delieved. 9/10 performance, someone bring him back asap.

Also, I was wondering if by any off chances someone could ID some tunes for me:
Nic Fancuilli @ around 1:30am played a track with the vocals: "My House" (Mr. Cribby, I believe you said you could help me out with this )
and if anyone knows the track he dropped right after that one, it would be great.

It was great seeing the TAs again, always a pleasure partying with u guys.

Ya seriously what was up with the ultra sketch factor?? It was probably the worst I've ever seen. Most people shouldn't have been walking around - well staggering mostly. That's just not what you want to have around you while you try and party. That shit needs to get cut down in that place.

Woot woot! Here comes my review (3rd review of an event for me); to those who read it, enjoy

Where to begin? Last night was just absolutely incredible, and like I told Nada, very memorable. I arrived with Mel, Miche, and JAX (haha, what are the chances? I ran into her at Union Station) around 11pm or so; I probably waited a total of 15 minutes while being processed through the guest-list line into the club. And on that note, thank you kindly to John Tang for putting me on the list We got inside the KH, met up with Alex (LOT2005), and started the night. I was a bit surprised that the Haus wasn't yet packed, but within a few hrs it was filled up nicely (nothing compared to main room though: I went to see Deep Dish for about 10 minutes and I couldn't believe how rammed and stuffy main room was, there was almost no room to dance). For the first hour and a bit I just chilled out, really didn't do much dancing. Around 12:30am I headed over to the meetup and ran into a lot of great TAs. After the meetup I started dancing dancing dancing! I danced from about 1am-7am to some wikkid wikkid sets. Finally, just a tad before 7am I left the club, cabbed it back to Miche's, grabbed my keys, and drove home.

Alright, now for the good stuff: there are soooooo many highlights to this night, I will try to mention as many as I can remember:
1) I MET A MILLION PEOPLE LAST NIGHT. The best part of the evening, without a question, is the interaction I had with others. I saw many familiar TAs who I was sooooo happy to party with, met a huge number of new TAs, and also spent lots of time talking and dancing with randoms. You guys all know who you are! Fucken awesome. There is nothing more that I enjoy than meeting new people an sharing a connection with them at parties like these.
2) There were a few TAs (and maybe randoms?) that I spent hours with. I danced up a storm with these guys & girls. Darouge11 was one of them and there are sooooo many others. In all honesty, I really can't remember anybody's name but there is no doubt that I will recognize their faces the next time we party. There was one guy I met last night who made my night: he introduced himself to me saying he recognized me from TA and boom! him and I partied together for hours and hours throughout the night in KH. I can't recall his name but there is no doubt the guy knows who he is (green hat, took soooo many pics with me, took a video of me (which I can't wait to see!), etc). Dood, as soon as you read this, you gotta do two things: 1) let me know your name and TA identity obviously; and 2) send me all the pics and vids you took last night. I had a fucken blast partying with you and we'll do it up proper again in December.
3)NNNNAAAADDDAAA!!!! Hahah, she is a highlight of my night--in a cateogry all her own. I finally spotted her in front of the DJ booth in KH maybe around 2am or so. She came over to me and I gave her the biggest hug in the world--just as I promised I would. I had a sick time dancing with her for the last hours of the night. Ali, buddy, fucken great to see you again too dood. You have an awesome smile which only makes me happier when I'm around you.
4) Pawel! I was so so happy to see this guy and party with him. I appreciate what you did for me man. We had a blast together and I know my night wouldn't have been the same if you weren't there. I owe you one buddy
5) Picture with Cat-Woman....no lie, really! Myself and two others TAs took a pic with Cat-Woman, full leather suit and all, so cool!
6) Even though it sounds kinda cheesy, HUGS!!!! I must have given / received 100 hugs last night. It sounds silly I know, but they mean a lot to me--> it makes me feel like everybody else is just as happy to be there at that moment as I am. Anybody who saw me last night knows this haha....I even remember hugging this beautiful blonde woman and 5 seconds later telling her I had to give her another one and did
7) My interaction with the crowd: last night's KH crowd was fucken awesome! I was feeding off the energy of the crowd all night. There is NOTHING like looking across the room, catching someone's eyes, and encouraging them to put their motherfucken hands up and move like crazy as they demand you do the same! I loved it. One of my absolutely favourite memories of last night was the following: there was this woman who I had been making eye-contact with for a long time, feeding of each other's energy, etc. Eventually, we made our way towards each other. At a certain point, the DJ threw on a huge huge huge build-up. While this was happening, this woman and I squeezed each other's hand and put them as far up to the ceiling as we could. We were literally squeezing each other as hard as we could and must have done this waiting for the track to slam back for a good 30 seconds or more. I will never forget that, it meant a lot to me.
8) I was in sooo many pics haha. Pics with TranceGrooves, Coxx (you're friggen awesome man, loved partying with you, thank you for taking all the pics with / for me ), LOT 2005 (Alex), Plastikboy (Rob), Nada, Jenn....the names are endless, I could go on and on.
9) My best-friend showed up the party, something I wasn't expecting...first time partying with this guy, so fun!
10) SANDER VAN FUCKEN DOORN! Holy fucken shit. This guy is absolutely amazing, amazing! Without a doubt, he impressed the shit out of me, and is now my newest favourite DJ. I feel soooo blessed for having attended his first Toronto appearance. He is just incredible: his stage performance is fulllllll of energy, he's all smiles, he dances, dares the crowd to get as crazy as they can, and makes eye contact with single people in the crowd all the time. As soon as he got up on stage, I got to shake his hand. While he played, him and I made eye contact and laughed at each other sooooo many times (I was front and centre!). Then, WHILE HE WAS STILL PLAYING, he was kind enough to give me his autograph and let me shake his hand again. He killed it. Hard trance has never sounded so good. Just....mind-blowing.
11) Interactions with the DJs: I got autographs from Oakenfold, Second Sun, and SVD...I also took pics with Second Sun and got a chance to have a small convo with one of them. So cool!

I could go on and on, but time doesn't permit right now. Here are some of the pics from last night. I really really want to get all the pics that people took of me last night!

I'll end by saying this: THANK YOU TO EVERYBODY WHO CONTRIBUTED TO MY UNFORGETTABLE NIGHT! TA is one of the greatest things that has ever happened to me and you guys just don't understand how much this all means to me. See you mother******s in December!

P.S. I'm still kind of out-of-it today, so if I neglected to mention someone or something special I apologize.

P.P.S Sasha you were missed buddy!

P.P.P.S If anybody who met me (or re-met me) last night would like to get to know me a bit better--guys or girls--send me a msg on MSN!

here's the group i went with

As for my review.
Stayed in the Kool Haus the whole night. Came in right before Oakie came on and was movin till close. I got some pictures and videos with my phone and one of them was the guy from second sun. really good guys. i bet they would go to the floor and start dancing if they really wanted too.

Oakie: i rememeber him from a couple months and he was awesome then. This time he still rocked. some good tracks he put and was a great way to start the night.

Second Sun: they were better then i thought. some awesome remixs, like the song from ferris bueller's day off. when that came on, i saw everyone look around with a smile on their face. hahaha what a track and the ones after it. they also hyped up sander van doorn pretty good too.

Sander: WOW WOW and WOW!!!! this guy is awesome!! loved every track he threw down. i think this guy is going to be my new fave dj. everything was so hard i love it!!!

Forgot to mention a shout out to all the TA's i met. Coxx, Nada (happy b-day), Abercrombie, and who ever else i missed.

Overall a much better night than the ones at guv I have been to recently. Less packed, not that hot, not too many cracked out people.

I was basically there to see SVD and John Aquaviva...and then I stummbled upon Seb Fontaine just destryoing the drink...he was spot on the entire time he was up there.

Paul Oakenfold, granted I am not much of a (as I call) fluffy trance fan, but I could not stand more than 30 minutes of him. What I buzz kill. I took off to the drink early and Fontaine was unreal, I liked his sound, his mixing and overall tne Drink seemed to have a really dark, dirty gritting vibe....nevermind the insane amount of cloudsmoke machine stuff that was crazy....I want one of those things in my house.

Stayed there until halfish way through to John Aquaviva, who started hard, and progressed to a dark, deep...rythmic/bassy sound...seems like a classy guy.

Went back down to Second Sun, who seemed to be keeping everyone interested, I am not much for the Bon Jovi singing on prayer thing that the one guy does, but to each his own....they had a couple really nice tracks...but not holding my interst.

I wanted to see how the Dish was, dont know which guy it was....white shirt with a skull...whether or not I was feeling his sound, he get points for very much being into his sound, he had this look of intensity and focus on his mixing that I very much appreciate, like a Digweed looking intensity...very progressive, at times almost minimal, lots of popping, clicking and rolling basslines...

And SVD...wow. He was unreal, I turned to my friend and said this guy is going to be huge (I realise he already is) but I mean huge (ala Tiesto)...and by listenning to him last night, he deserves it, he was lots of fun, really into his sound and the crowd even into the wee hours were clearly in awe...Toronto loves Hard sounding trance and techno....why we dont get more of that I dunno.

One downside, bouncers...assholes, uneductated , meatheads, who will have 6 months of power in their life...I litterally saw one trying to pic a fight with a guy for taking a lemon...I think some of those guys are celebrating their own 10 year.

I think those who were in Kool Haus during Second Sun, towards the end will remember this moment...
