Didn't you take any science classes in high school or college? To be honest, in the US, you do need to know both.

Not really, just some fields use it more than others. At some point in your life, though, most people need to learn both in America, although less so now that everyone has internet.

umm no. i can name a few fields that dont use it at all. IT, construction (with the exception of government jobs), furniture business just to name a few.

I said "at some point in your life." Obviously you missed that school part, as well as the part about some fields using it more than others. It hasn't been that long since I was in school, but we learned both fairly early. In high school, unless you go to a vocational school, you do, at some point, have to learn the metric system.

I recall hearing about how NASA fucked up a satellite's course and sent it into the sun or something because some moron converted metric to american wrong.

its not the american system. You guys didnt invent it.

The actual name is british imperial system and even they dont use it anymore!!! Its time for the US to switch. And its also time for americans to accept dollar coins!

Yeah, we can definitely afford to just drop everything and change every sign, label, etc. in the country with absolutely no problem.

We're actually planning on doing it this Saturday afternoon along with the rest of our chores.

It's a nice little Saturday we've got planned here.

we did it back in 1978 no problem.. Why cant you?

And per capita it cost just as much as it would you

Here's $125 million that could have been spent to fix the problem ...

I keep reading that you buy gas by the gallon at gas stations...
Its a fucking liquid NOT a gas! I really just don't get it.

Would be nice if everyone in the world actually used the same system, and that would be the metric as it's much more accurate.

The term "gas" in reference to petroleum is actually a short form for gasoline... which is actually more specific then petroleum as it relates to only one type of oil based fuel whereas petroleum could be employed in reference to any oil based liquid or semi-solid.

Last night I was doing some work around the Hazard residence and came up with another reason why the US should switch..... SO I WOULDN'T HAVE TO KEEP TWO DIFFERENT SETS OF TOOLS!!!! Thanks to our intregrated economies about half the shit in my house has imperial sized fasteners and half have metric. The end result is I have to have tools for both.... "is that a 3/4 or a 18mm? Shit, I stripped it, must have been 3/4!"

It'd be super nice if we all used the same currency and spoke the same language, too.

But when every single country in the world uses the same system except one, you gotta wonder wtf is going on?

Im glad you brought up integrated currencies and language though. Most people in the EU can now speak english and they have combined all their currencies into the euro.

It would be a great idea if north america had one currency but of course the US would never let that happen because they are too stubborn. Americans cant even get used to a $1 coin never mind a whole new currency!

There are many things about the US that are in fact the best in the world. But in cases where things arent the best, americans refuse to learn lessons from other countries.

Sadly Canada is becoming more like that too these days. But we still have a little bit of hope LOL

There's no one dollar coin because the strippers depend on that one dollar bill for their livelyhood.

Personally, I think they should. Naturally, I would say that though. I'm a user of the metric system. Now, please correct me if I am wrong, but is the US the only country left that does not use the metric system? What does need to be considered is the cost of doing business. Think of the money that could be saved by having one standard tool set for example ( I hate having to switch between metric and imperial tools!)
Being Canadian, I am a hybrid I suppose. I couldn't even tell you what I weigh in kilos, nor how tall i am in centimeters!
I don't think the USA will switch however.. If they were going to they would have by now

Well no wonder the USA has not gone metric. With the amount of trade it does with those superpowers, it would be foolish to change to metric!

Well, they convert the currency, I don't see why it's a big deal to convert the mass or volume.

Actually, I'm kind of glad we're not metric, because A4 paper pisses me off. The width is too thin.
