And I don't think permanent bans should be a matter of public debate, they should be put in place and enforced by the moderators with absolutely no input from the peanut gallery.

Quite frankly, Coup, Jason, and Myra all know exactly what is and is not tolerable for c0r, they're all smart and fair enough to keep things from getting out of hand if we did try something along these lines.

i could be wrong, but i think permanent suspensions are already practiced in some cases. i think there have been a few members that got banned too many times and finally just weren't allowed back after that.

god i hate it when people stay on topic.

In my opinion, all three know how to handle things even if in the past they've proven to have made some exceptionally poor decisions.

The earned vs. given thing rears it's head again. My respect for 2/3 of the mods will be restored once they have demonstrated that they can be relied upon to consistantly exercise good judgement. Until that time only one mod will have any influance over me as the other two are on the cusp of people I deem fitting of permanent censure.

Aren't those forum wide though (i.e. banned from TA as a whole and not just c0r)?

And mostly having to do with spam or egregious abuse of privilege across the forums?

I really don't know.

There are cases where particular users can be banned from posting in a particular subforum on the website, however I can't off-hand quote any instances in which this has actually been put into practice.

I don't disagree, though I'm not certain we're referencing the same situations.

Believe me, it's been more than once in the last few months I have questioned why it is that some of the moderators weren't publically reprimanded for certain behaviors.

I really don't know.

i'm assuming most people who may have been perma-banned from COR deserved to be perma-banned from TA altogether.

i know there was one instance of a poster who was banned only from Political Discussion.

In any event, this thread isn't meant to be a discussion of specific bad acts perpetrated by specific TA's or moderators, but rather a discussion of how we can affect a positive change in the content of c0r without losing the relaxed atmosphere this place provides to many of us who spend hours a day in front of a computer for work or school (i.e. what I'm doing right now).

people tell me i sound Midwestern all the time, but i assure you if you ever hear me say the word "bomb" you'll know right away that i'm from NY.
