what's so difficult about understanding that? public transport is there for everyone!

As are the roads. My point is this; if you want those that drive to pay the full cost of doing so then those who choose other forms of transportation should be willing to do so as well, however, no one is.

Truth is we all benefit from people haveing free access to highways (inclusive of surface streets) thus we all need to pay for it. Those that drive already pay more then those that don't thanks to taxs on fuel, vehicles themselves, and anything associated with the vehicle.

The worst thing about the 407 is how they hook up a tow chain to your car, drag you to the 407 and force you to drive on it.

I love the 407.

I've had my transponder since it first opened and used to use it every day when I lived the Markham area. I still use it whenever I need a quick way to get across the top of the city.

My only complaint is that I wasn't offered participation in the investment fund that owns the 407.

A little OT, but Jayx1, I appreciate your posts for one reason and one reason only: you do a great job of at least raising some awareness of the multitudes of issues around this city.

Its just a shame that you're the one to do it more than anyone else, and most have focused on your negativity.

thank you... if other people gave a shit i wouldnt have to as often

However you do realize that by disallowing people to swap transponders you will be losing a tonne of business. How many times have i said to my friends "dont worry ill cover the toll" when i brought along the transponder in their car. Those people NEVER take the 407. Or in rental cars or for business.

Its a very bad policy

1 trans registered for 1 plate.. its like 1 phone number for one phone.. same kind of deal lol stupid analogy but yeah.. lol

Posted by 2famous4u on Nov-18-2006 04:49:

a tip of advice dont use your transponder in a rental car vehicle.. they will bill you.. lol

There was a small segment on Global News the other day about someone who was again receiving large transponder fees.

The problem was however that the transponder's RF-ID signal was unable to communicate with the gondola upon entering.

Now I've seen this problem first hand, quite a few times, and yes, if the transponder does not read when you enter the 407
(signified by a beeping) you receive these ridiculous non-transponder fees.

Its unfortunate the provincial governement, who mind you are a bunch of morons, sold the highway to a group of Swedes?
(not sure) and gave them 99 YEARS to pay them back. That highway probably already has paid for itself, if not within the next 5-10 years.
99-years...

The segment dealt with luxury cars but I've seen it happen in an older 2001 model Accord.

FYI... If this happens a customer can place a VIDEO TOLL CHARGE SUPPRESSION on their vehicle if they provide their VIN # and those tolls can happen for 1 of 2 reasons:

the vehicle has a Metallized Windshield (which interferes with the transponder) or, they
Replaced their Windshield on the vehicle.. this can also interfere.. there are a bunch of vehicles on their list of metallized vehicles..

another reason could be that the transponder is damaged and needs to be replaced

these are a few reasons for his "high tolls".. and they are solutions...

the government sold 407ETR to 4 different companies:
SNC-Lavalin Inc(engineering firm being one of them)

Feel free to use the IGNORE feature at any time...

Isn't complaining about complaining a little obtuse?

Don't get me wrong, I can totally see what you're saying, but at the same time, don't feel obligated to open up threads you don't like either just to complain about them.

Some of us like being aware of certain, real world issues.

As for the 407, I agree with Diginut, you're paying for the price for convenience.
Remember, driving is a privilege and the roads have to be paid for by SOMEBODY.
If a private highway were being paid for by tax dollars, THEN we'd have something to discuss...
