that's a good point. Pat is talking about himself there, and it's funny how he says that he misses sometimes. Well, if he talks to God, everytime he says he predicts something - that means he heard it from God. So if he misses, that means God missed Maybe Pat's channel of communication with God gets cloudy sometimes and he hears things wrong

I mean, if the terrorists have free will... then they still have the ability to call off whatever plans they might or might not be making. So God can't really know whether or not they're going to go through with it, much less tell anybody.

In order for God to know, it would have to already be determined, in which case the terrorists don't have free will and sole responsibility for the attacks is God's.

so are you saying god cant see into the future just because we have free will?

Yep.

I think he is saying that omniscience cannot exist in a world that is indeterministic, which is true.

i dont see how that follows. just because we have free will shouldnt prevent god from knowing what all of our free choices are going to be.

Posted by MrJiveBoJingles on Jan-04-2007 03:59:

Free will means that your future choices are not determinate. If some part of the future is indeterminate, then that means that part of it is unknowable.

Then let's hear a better argument.

Thank you.

EDIT: And no, we won't accept "Because God said so."

Opinion != Argument, arseclown.

ill spell it out for you again then cretin.

precscience by a deity does not prevent the existance of free will. just because god knows what im going to do does not mean i dont have the free will do to otherwise. he knows i won't, not because im pre-determined to perform specific actions, but because he knows everything.

Posted by distant on Jan-04-2007 05:07:

But if he knows everything, then it is in fact predetermined by the word of God, which contradicts the idea of free will.

Oh, and you never made any arguments prior to this post, you only had opinions. Go back and read your own posts.

Posted by distant on Jan-04-2007 05:10:

Here, I'll help you out:

"so are you saying god cant see into the future just because we have free will?"

Question.

"i dont see how that follows. just because we have free will shouldnt prevent god from knowing what all of our free choices are going to be."

Opinion. You stated your beliefs without backup.

"i know what you're both saying. i just disagree."

Opinion.

Well, well.

Posted by Halcyon+On+On on Jan-04-2007 05:10:

If free will has been predetermined, it's no longer free will - only an illusion. We like to live in illusions though, whether we know it or not. I know you already know this, perhaps we should speculate on the powers of 'God' though? It seems to me that omnipotence is not necessarily omniscience, on a cosmic sense, though it most certainly is compared to human beings. I don't really see how anyone could be right or wrong about this or have a more valid opinion than another person though, really.

Given the jurisdiction of deific presence, I don't really see what is so invalid about this statement. I am not saying that there is a God and It makes the rules, but if there was a God, wouldn't God's word hold true over the whole of reality? If not, I don't really think we are talking about the Human God - compared to humans, perhaps god-like status can be assumed, but we are very paltry creatures.

How would you know for sure? There's no point in speculating about "if I knew". You never know. You could expect, based on your intuitions and knowledge about the person, but that doesn't mean you decided for him.

argument
-noun

3. a process of reasoning; series of reasons
4. a statement, reason, or fact for or against a point

As I said, Opinion does not equal Argument. You stated no reasons for believing what you believe.

All I'm hearing is a bunch of "ifs".

Guys, can we please just go back to making fun of Conservative American Christians?
