What in fucks name are you talking about? Nothing in that article "owned" me or what I had to say.
When a dead system that's almost 300 dollars less than next gen systems manages to sell 300,000 more units in a single month, no one is shocked, and I'd hardly say that's "dominating" the 360, especially when in the same article it says the top selling software and accessories belonged to the 360 (I don't need to tell any of you that this is where companies make money, not hardware) - beyond which, it makes relatively no mention of developers continuing to support the PS2 platform - and also makes no room for hardware shortages.
If you get off on "owning" people on a half accurate statistical technicality, that's cool. But honestly, all you're doing is spinning a single statistic to suit your position - hardly an ethical or even honest appraisal of any situation. Shame on the both of you.
Feel free to try again though. You're all very amusing to me.

Well, first off, I wasnt trying to 'own' you, but rather prove to you that the PS2 is still a very good-selling console. Also, you are consistently missing the point of my posts; you keep debating arguments that I'm not even talking about. I'm not saying anything about developer support towards the PS2 or the lack thereof; all I'm saying is that the PS2 is still kicking ass, sales-wise. Thats what I said in my last post, and thats what I'm saying now.
Just tell me this, was the PSone outselling the Xbox in 2002? I think the lesson we are all learning from this is that gamers werent ready for the next-generation just quite yet. I mean, yeah, the PS2 is 250 dollars cheaper, but even you said it yourself RJT:

Notice how you said a DEAD system is outselling a NEXT-GEN system? Isnt there something wrong there? Despite the PS2 being cheaper, shouldnt the new consoles be getting the most attention? Very close to the majority of people just werent ready to throw down for the next-gen just quite yet.

First, the reason I don't address your points is because you've completely failed to address mine. Posting articles that have relatively little to do with the previous discussion does not move the discussion forward. I clearly WAS talking about developers, so it's you who's arguing points that I wasn't even talking about.
Second, you can't write off the fact that the PS2 sold more systems in a single month to a poor showing of the 360, Wii, or PS3. You seem to want to use a single statistic as fact that the PS2 is still "dominating" the next generation without acknowledging the context within which those numbers are given. There are plenty more factors leading to the PS2 selling than the next gen not doing well, most notably:
1. Price
2. Existing Library
3. The socio-economic status of the average gamer, and their inability to shell out 1/2 a grand for a system.
4. Availability
And there are countless more. There is nothing wrong with the PS2 outselling the current generation, in fact, I'd go so far as to say that it makes a lot of sense, given the 360's somewhat sluggish launch.
The bottom line is that # of systems sold in a given month has little to nothing to do with who's "dominating," especially when the system you're discussing is in fact a "dead" system. Sale of accessories, games, and market share, on the other hand, do.
You can make all the excuses you want - but at the end of the day if you think the PS2 is going to last, you're dreaming.

Right, you were, but I wasnt. And since you were attempting to counter ME, then why should that give you the ability to change the points that I'm arguing about? I am well aware that the PS2 is in its last days, but thats not what I'm saying. All I'm trying to get across here is that the PS2 is still a popular console thats selling extremely well, and because of that, the PS3 will have a harder time establishing a firm position as a formidable contender in the next-gen console wars. Such wont be the case in 10 months though, I think.

^^^Thats the point I'm trying to make! The whole reason I started this argument in the first place was to defend the PS3's sluggish start. People are calling the PS3 a failure already, when in reality, its because its predecessor has yet to die! People arent done with the PS2 yet!
If you go back a page, you'll realize we started this discussion because you mentioned how little market share the PS3 has managed to scramble in the time its been released.
I am in no way trying to say that the PS2 is going to continue to dominate and continue to be healthy competition. In my honest opinion, holiday season 2006 will probably be the last time the PS2 is even really mentioned. Sure it will sell as time goes on, only because its cheap and it will likely get even cheaper in the next year, but realistically, everyone is looking forward to the next big 3, and by next year, the big 3 will have fantastic libraries.

This just seems silly. I mean, I totally agree with you in that its the sales of the software/accessories that make the company their money, but saying that sales of the system "has little to nothing to do with who's dominating" seems a little too far. First off, I'm willing to bet the PS2 sold more software than the 360. And I wouldnt even be surprised if it sold more accessories too. Ehhh the accessories might be stretching it, but games....I'm almost willing to guarantee that the PS2 outsold not only just the 360, but all 3 of the major next-gen systems COMBINED, in software.
People seem to post all of those lists claiming which games sold the best...I dont remember the games that were on the list, but its quite possible none of them were PS2 games. Gears of War was definetely 1 of them, but the reason it sold so well is because of the severe lack of OTHER available AAA 360 games. The PS2 has AAA titles ranking all the way back to 2000. If you buy a Wii, or a 360, or a PS3, its very likely you'll probably pick up Gears of War, Resistance, and Zelda, only because there isnt much else available.

i think 2000's post regarding its life cycle very much owned you actually. you were going in hard with opinions, unfortunately he went in with some facts. unlucky. the fact that the PS2 managed to sell that many units is going to guarantee a strong return in continuing game purchases. whether they beat the 360 in software is possibly less important than landing even more PS2 units in households.
also, conner2000 didnt say he owned you. i said he did. pay attention. and i wasnt spinning any stat for "my position". i have no position. i love seeing console fanboys get thrashed with their inherently biased viewpoints.

Red Kawa's Ps3 Media Center FTMFW
Set this bad boy up today in no less than 10 minutes. Im able to access both Mac & PC's via the Internet Browser to download music/movies and pics to my PS3's hard drive.
Now im a fan of torrents as when in the US I can view my euro shows that I miss and vise versa and now this has made it possible (im sure there other ways but im a retard) to watch my shows and shit on my TV's
now this is not some console exclusive they have the Red Kawa for wii and im sure xbox does the same bla bla just stating a cool thing i figured out today

Actually, not once in that entire article does it even mention TOTAL software sales. Not once. we'll just drop it altogether. We are annoying the shit out of all the other gaming TA's.
So anyways, PS3 official thread continues with...a previously Xbox 360 exclusive coming to the PS3 in the form of Enchanted Arms. Probably wont make much of a difference in the states, but definetely in Japan.
http://ps3.ign.com/articles/754/754698p1.html
Enchanted Arms Reaches Towards PS3.
UbiSoft shares the JRPG love.
January 11, 2007 - Today Ubisoft announced that it is currently working on a PlayStation 3 version of the Japanese action-RPG, Enchanted Arms. Previously an Xbox 360-exclusive game, Enchanted Arms is created by From Software in Japan and is set to be one of the first Japanese RPGs to hit the PlayStation 3. Enchanted Arms includes more than 50 hours of gameplay, and makes use of the exclusive SpeedTactics Battle System, which enables the player to use distance-dependent attacks in battle.
With its move to the PlayStation 3, Enchanted Arms has made use of the Sixaxis's motion-sensing abilities to craft a more detailed experience. Players can harness weapons, recover their EX power meters, unlock more powerful attacks, and solve puzzles all through real-world manipulation of the controller. The game features more than 500 chanracters, including 130 unlockable creatures to control in battle. The PS3 version of the game also includes 30 exclusive creatures for your battling pleasure. Other PS3-exclusive additions to the game include an all-new English language track and ten additional minutes of anime cutscenes.
Expect Enchanted Arms to spread its tactical charm on the PS3 this March.

what? this thread or the PS3?
this thread is mediocre at best, but the PS3 is pretty badass, though lacking in quality exclusive games, which will change in I'd say around 6 months from now.

| Soft PS3 sales spell trouble for EA, others |
Who's on the PS3's side, who? Lots. Historically speaking, brand PlayStation has had the best third-party support over any other platform. That's what happens when your first two consoles sell bajillions. A higher install base means more sales of games and a better chance for game developers to make money. So given such strong support for PlayStation systems in general, it's no surprise that EA and others were/are heavy backers of the PS3 from the start.
But according to Bank of America, soft PS3 sales not only spell trouble for Sony but for the many third-party publishers supporting the platform, namely EA. Based on recent channel checks at 50 stores, 78% had PS3s in stock. Hence, "disappointing PS3 hardware sales are an incremental negative for all the game publishers." So much, in fact, that 2007 publisher stocks could take a substantial dive this year as 21% of their total expected revenues were pinned on the PS3.
As you can imagine, continued blame for the low demand was placed on the PS3's price point and and "lack of compelling software titles." The take-away: unless PS3 demand increases in lieu of early mishaps, publishers could also be left in the cold. Maybe more than just gamers are rooting for early price cuts now. The pressure's on.
Uh oh.
Perhaps a price cut soon?
Or maybe these third party developers need to stop bitching. How is the console going to sell without their games being released? Sony needs to take the blame, but the 3rd party developers need to take just as much too.

Hell yeeeaah. By the time you get one, the next batch of PS3 games will finally unleash (did you know that not a SINGLE new PS3 game has come out since Fight Night Round 3, which released BEFORE xmas? No wonder the damn thing isnt selling!), which will include Virtua Fighter 5, Fatal Inertia, Heavenly Sword (one to watch right there, looks to be fucking amazing), as well as Sonic (heard it sucked though), Oblivion, and FEAR.

OMG FEAR. I played a demo of that on PC, I know it'd be great on the PS3. Not to mention, chief, I'm anxiously wondering what things I can do with my PSP using the wireless network that comes with the PS3.
I can't wait to get my hands on one!

I think this game will sell magnificently, if only because it is the FIRST PS3 game to hit store shelves since the week of December 8th if you disclude the abysmal Sonic that came out last week and approx. 2 downloads on the PS Network. PS3 needs more games, and it looks like VF5 will lead the fucking pack. Every week from here on through May has at least 1-2 games hitting shelves. Bout fucking time.

I bought Virtua Fighter 5 last night. I've never really been a fan of the series, but I've read enough reviews of the game and it sounds like it will be a winner. I haven't played it yet though.
I also reserved a copy of MotorStorm, which isn't too far from release either. PlayStation 3 has finally arrived and is starting take off.

MotorStorm is one of the most badass racing games I've ever played, period. Still yet to play VF 5 though.
