If you're seeking to assess your judgment by Catholic standards, I am certain that you will fall short along with the rest of humanity.

As a former Catholic, I find its beliefs to be based more on morals and less on reality.

Brainwashed freaks! I thought Muslims were bad, Americans are even more fucked up!!

The joke just keeps getting bigger & bigger, and then when they die their mind ends, their flesh rots, there is no afterlife, there is nothing!! that whole worshipping thing was a waste of time!!

Worshiping is a waste of time? Maybe. I don't think anybody can say yes or no for certain.
Taking time out to view religion as more of a moral guide? Certainly not a waste of time.

Regardless of whether or not there's an actual God or gods there's plenty to be learned, morally, from each religion.

Every Christmas my cousin and I have an "Annual Free-Thinker Atheist Family Social" which has all of two members I come from an incredibly religious family.

Anyway, this movie was the topic of discussion this year... crazy ass shit!

Is atheism really free-thought or is it simply denying things we do not like to hear?

It is a choice not to believe in something that most of society encourages for you to blindly take faith in. I think that is a form of free-thinking. Freely thinking apart from a religious sect that has well over 50% of the entire population under its control. Atheists aren't denying the idea of God or gods, they just choose not to believe or worship them.

I *personally* don't accept the label of "atheist", primarily because I do not like to label myself in any way when it comes to a religious context. I do believe in a bigger picture that no one, including myself, could ever really understand (which I suppose you could say is technically "Agnostic", but again, that is a label in reference to religious stance). I don't know what that is, but do I really need to know all the details to believe it? Apparently not... all the christians seem to get by fine.

Any kind of level of blind obedience, unthinking loyalty to more or less anything is ultimately going to end up with some kind 1-dimensional persona incapable of adapting or evolving to its environment or any hardships they might face in the future.
Like most of the extremist religions, the christian extremists really arent any better than the muslims or anyone else, they are truly terrifying people to deal with. What they cannot comprehend they usually lash out at with some kind of emotional or physical abuse, hatred and intollerance.

haha (assuming that was a jab at Christianity)

So you don't want to be labeled as an atheist or an agnostic...yet you do have faith that there is some larger presence in a scheme grander than anyone could really conceive of...

So you're a

Faitheist?

I have yet to see this movie (waiting for it to come out on DVD) but I saw a news report on it the other day and I think these types of camps should be banned... I feel like it is a form of child abuse. Talk about the lost of innocence.
