Well said.

Despite the fact that I do think Tiesto is a publicity whore and I know that this beach gig was ultimately done to raise his profile yet again, I just think that why shouldnt he have done it? If any other DJs had the chance to play in front of 200,000 on a beach in Rio, how many of them would turn it down?

Fair enough, it was a free gig on the beach but I dont believe that there are many other DJs who would have pulled such a crowd. Like him or hate him, everyone has to face the fact that he has a HUGE following...a following that the majority of DJs around the world would love to have.

Someone made the point earlier that Norman Cook attracted 300,000 people for a similar event by playing his usual mixture of styles that would appeal to more people than if he played only EDM and I think this is a great point. We have to remember that Tiesto played only EDM, even if it did include his intolerable remix of Adagio. Norman Cook was also playing in England, where more people would naturally turn up to support one of their own.

Personally, I love Tiesto's In Search Of Sunrise series and I would definitely pay money to see him every time if he kept to the progressive & uplifting trance style he plays on these albums but he doesnt. I have seen him a couple of times and Im not a big fan of his live sets at all. But who can argue? He probably has the biggest following a that any DJ has ever had, so whether it is through sheer marketing expertise or the fact that so many people actually do adore the music he plays, all I can say is fair play to him - he is getting the chance to do things that most will ever only get to dream about.

OK, but you'll have to link me to the press release which claims that Tiesto was the first one to do this event at Ipanema.

I completely forgot that this thread was all about getting there and doing it first.

Good luck finding it.

I was clarifying a factual issue because there was confusion as to where Norman Cook has played to large crowds. I originally raised Norman Cook's monstrous beach parties because they were relevant to the subject. So piss off.

I agree on Cook's parties being
a) bigger
b) better
c) even more publicity gathering

i just wondered why you'd taken the angle "FBS did it first" - i didnt see anyone assuming anything other than this.

My opinion as well....

Fatboy Slim s gig was also mind blowing , 350.000 people ...the difference is that he interacts a lot with the crowd..Tiesto doesn t
FBS even produced a song about Rio just for that gig..afterwards he detroyed the LP ..great tune....I ve tried to get a hold of that song, but without success so far

Er... because it's a completely natural avenue of conversation? A big name DJ does a notable gig similar to what another big name DJ has done. And to be perfectly honest, Cook's parties in Brazil hardly ever get mentioned on TA as opposed to many other notable sets, so I think it's a reasonable conclusion that Cook's parties aren't that well known. Beyond that I was simply clarifying a factual issue. So stop over-reacting just because you percieved a threat towards an artist you're clearly enamoured with.

tiesto destroying LP's? does he still even plays LP's? i thought he totally went to CDJ's, with an occasional 12" perhaps.
and how did he destroyed it then? by smashing it the wall? and was the sound released from that smash a great track somehow?
whats it called? Tiesto vs Brick - Another smash in the wall?

FBS =/= Tiesto

It was FBS who smashed the record

You seem to be especially thick, so I'll spell it out to you: he got the fact wrong, so I corrected him. What the fuck this has to do with you I don't know, but you seem to be very sore about it.
