i noticed that too, that tlist doesn't look that bad at all. you'd thing they played techno from reading these reviews. i'm surprised they didn't end up playing sufjan stevens - chicago.

I wouldn't want to be average height and try to push through the Guv crowd... thank god for height!

Posted by Final GTS on Feb-12-2007 03:57:

Was definitely a good night, however did not hold a candle to last years party, that was #1 or #2 of all time for me. I wish they would have played more of their own stuff!

PS- yeah, it definitely could have been the pushy crowd, among other things that killed the vibe until 4 or so...

i left at 2:30. was not feeling it at all.. sound was horrible, and the club was too crowded.. oh well its just one of those nights.

Awesome night, Awesome Music... come back soon. thanks for being such great sports, giving violeta an autograph and sticking around while we got the camera to work so we could take the pictures.

People are complaining because 80% or more of the good tracks were stuffed into the first 1.5 hours. Hell of a set up until that point. Cafe del mar hit right about the midway point, and from there it was downhill.
After that, no real elevation, no flow, just the drowning beat.

Having said that, a number of people will praise them for keeping that harder beat and not playing their "fluff". (when their live sets are never really fluffy)

Truth is they are where they are because they are the masters of melodic, yet know how to throw in some heavier beats when it is called for.
I'd rather ride the roller coaster than a train.

I figured that with the Docks evewnt there would be a little extra room to dance last night...
The line to the Guv opened a little later than usual.
Mark Olivers opening set was good as always.
Above And Beyond dropped a good set.
Good For Me kind of sums up the night, thanks guys
Crowd was full of people moving around, more than usual.
Maybe they should mark off a lane for people to cut across to the smoking lounge.

Exactly, there was no flow or good progression to the set, even at peak hour I was waiting to be lifted, and it just wasn't there!

There was no vibe in that room, I have heard better from these guys anyway, I had to thrown on the essential mix just to get this set outta my head.

I had a great time at Above and Beyond, it was kinda pushy, but much less so up on the stage.

I brought a bunch of friends that don't come to these things very often/at all and they loved it.

Posted by Superstring on Feb-12-2007 15:58:

Good times!

Friends came through and we all made is safely to the guv.

Big thank you to Shaya for providing glist. Even that line was a bit long, I can't imagine how it must have been standing in regular line in the cold!

Inside, the warm-up by MO was good, and A&B didn't disappoint thereafter. Their set was good, though (IMO) not quite as good as last April's set - yet still lots of great tunes... "Good for me" took it

The crowd was a lot pushier than I expected. I don't understand why or how, but sometimes it just happens. A lot more pushy people, as other reviewers have noted... But otherwise a great night.

Posted by pete242 on Feb-12-2007 16:34:

The only reason I enjoyed the night at all was cause I got to meet some new people and see some friends, and exchange salutes with Paavo and have a couple shoutouts with Tony.

Above and Beyond I could care less for on Saturday night. Not my type of music, and the Main Room doesn't have the appeal that it used to back in my early Guv days. Plus the sheer number people gets on my fucking nerves.

My buddy George William tore the Acid Lounce a new one though. The building said Guvernment, the room said Acid Lounge, but all George saw was ZONE! Dirty fucking beats all night. Great times indeed. Brought me back to my summer days.

I couldn't agree more. Why even title this thread: Review for above and Beyond.
I mean, why call this sight trance addict?....And why give above and beyond the #4 ranking?
Who really cares about them.
I was actually at the Brittany Spears concert last night, and it was sick.

Exactly man, write a review in an entirely DIFFERENT thread about your Guv experience, this thread is about Above and Beyond. Period. Who gives a fuck about the other djs at Guv?

Agreed. the crowd was the worst i've ever seen in that room, the flow was lacking and they let tracks play for too long. i just gave up into their second hour and went to gallery where the locals saved my night. mark oliver closing was solid. how long did A&B play for anyways?

Posted by Gypsy on Feb-12-2007 22:23:

yes, the crowd was pushy. yes, the place was overpacked. did it take away from the enjoyment? sure, a bit. note to guv: quit packing that place.

above & beyond were great. so what if the flow wasn't there (according to some). the tracks they dropped were freaking incredible. i got everything i wanted out of their set (except 'one night in toyko' but hearing 'child' made up for that ) and had an absolutely fantastic time with everyone.

MO closing set...i don't even know what to say. it owned me. spectacular.

/gush

Posted by neuromancer on Feb-12-2007 23:43:

'above and beyond' sucked beyond measure IMHO for the same reasons others have said, no flow, no progression, no good breakdowns, the set sounded flat, they did played some good tracks, but the dj's work is not only to play good tracks.

thanks to MO for the lifesaver that putted some flavor to the night.

i think the crowd was way pushier because the people wasn't precisely dancing.. and whats up with the sound at guv ? am i going deaf or what ?

I enjoyed the night. The pushing was kind of lame. Like it wasn't pushing because it was mistakenly, I know I was pushed purposely a couple times.

p.s. put on deodorant before going to a club. or go dance the hell away from me.
