REVIEW: Mauro Picotto, Sven Vath, Oakenfold @ Guv/KH 11.22.2003

He looks over on the stage and see's me hopping up and down like a mad-man and he points and starts hopping too. Bingo he saw me.

Next time he looks over I hold up my record and a sharpie and make the signature motion on the record.

Paul nods, and motions for me the frisbee the sleeve up into the booth. I'm about 15 feet away and on the very edge of the stage - but wanting to finally complete my "favorite DJ autograph" collection I do a practise motion and then on the second go let the sleeve go.

It twirled up, into the booth and over Paul's head. Paul jumps and runs after it. Paul is out of sight.

15 seconds later Paul re-appears, smiles, points at me and then flings the sleeve back down at me. On the edge of the stage I reach out and snag it out of the air before anybody else gets a chance to run away with it!

Holding the autographed (Oakenfold, with smily in the O) sleeve above my head I again jump up and down like a mad man and bow "thank you" to Paul - he waves and gets back into his Mix.

FRIGGIN' AWESOME!!!! Thanks Paul!

Up until that point my night had been hectic to say the least. Once I got it signed I danced my ass off and then tried to swim back into the Orange room to catch the last part of Vath.

2. Deep Dish @ Labour of Love 2005

Sasha - Better Days Last Dance, August 1998.

After a summer of slowly discovering "progressive" and moving away from more mainstream house, this party solidified my love of the sound. Imagine a gorgeous late summer Sunday morning, 8am, doors to the mainroom wide open with the sun streaming into the main room. Dancefloor was still packed and Sasha is dropping bomb after bomb of the most amazing records I'd ever heard. The first time the riff of Twilo Thunder dropped will remain as one of the defining moments of my partying career!

Flash to 2 weeks later and Sasha's San Fran GU comes out and I get to relive that Sasha set over and over.

Probably the best set I have ever heard there, I stood in front of those decks for five hours and danced without stopping, no one was gettin in my way that night. He played Cave - Street Carnival

For me it was Marco V back in 2003, hearing ECHOES while coming down the stairs from the drink, everything stopped and the music just continued, then I remembered how high I was....oh Marco V you are the best.

nope!

2000.. using a $17.00 camera!lol!
It was never suppose to be a gig, rather doing something that I've enjoyed doing for years and also to capture the night/event like it was never done before,

I'm still affiliated with TNC..

i was honestly going to see IM only cuz lately im not feeling trance and honestly i feel like a lot of it is commercial bs but JESUS MURPHY i was so wrong

ok Infected mushroom set of course not comparable to what they played last time at KH and how they killed the crowd
this time it was israelis jumping around and steepiung on everybody and hitting everybody in the faces. Of course last time at KH they were jumping around too but KH had shitload of space to dance so it was no problem. Infected mushroom was pretty good but not as good as i wanted them to be..they didnt impress me that much and i was expecting so much more because for most part i came just to see them but they were still good 7/10

max graham, didnt listen to it much but i heard some parts and the set sounded ok. no rating

AVB, holy shittt son i honestly thought trance was dead i dont know why but after seeing pvd, tiesto, G&D, rank1, ferry shitload of times it didnt impress me one bit but what i saw today fuck me in the goat ass that was one of the best trance events i attended..not only he played amazing tracks ONE after the other but he also played the stuff that was actually thinking in my head for him to play
i hate (hated) trance before coming today since im more into house now but omg now im starting to get my trance feeling back again after seeing this
everybody was dancing nonstop from start to the end of his set and everybody was into it. WOW AVB TRANCEGOD if i could vote on djmag right now id vote for AVB #1 dj this year
ARMIN VS MIKE track of the night! FUCK i was dieing
12/10
you fucken rock

Memories...

As for the pic, Jon it was in Acid Lounge JUST before Howells was on. in 02 I think.

Posted by Mortyman on Feb-21-2007 23:26:

Ferry Corsten - 2001
Armin Van Buuren - 2001
Judge Jules - 2001

that is all. Koolhaus still owns.

Posted by Endlesswave on Feb-21-2007 23:47:

The AvB 2001 was crazy, he came 3x that summer I think. We kept thinking he'd have a bi monthly residency. First time I met a bunch of TAs was there. Meet up was in the Acid lounge at 12 (like always). Met Del, Infinity High, Blue Neon.

- Wow, simply wow. 8/9 hours of Dish, starting with "Stay Gold" and hammering out "the Sound of Violence", "PQM - Are you Sleeping", "Only When I lose Myself", "Coldplay Clocks FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER" ETC ETC. This party solidified Toronto's World Class Clubbing status for me, and having the GU brand there helped to prove that. One of those nights that just blew your mind.

This is still one of my favorite parties of all time. I would have to say that my appreciation for tunes began that night. The GU cd is still in constant rotation, some of my all time favorite tracks are on it. I spent my entire night on a podium and refused to come down and had to be served water from my spot above the crowd! bahaha legendary.

ps. i missed clocks- very sad.
