the progression of those 3 tunes is so damn good.

i mean the whole thing is, obviously.. but those 3 tunes in particular just get me off.

I agree, especially Julien Jabre - War; that tune really stands out for me, just awesome!
Just heard it for the first time and already know that I will play this one over and over again.

Awesome track. I like this track on disc one...starts somewhere around 50 mins with a female vocal. I swear I've heard that a few times, in this older Desyn.

08. Delgui - Highlights (Charles Webster Mix)
09. Julien Jabre - War

worth the price right there...

Disc One:

As many people have described it, it's just GORGEOUS!!! So mellow and so funky at times and so trancey at others. As someone else earlier in this thread said, "this guy really blurs the lines between the genres".

I can't remember listening to a CD with such a great track selection that was so brilliantly mixed together. Hats off to Luke Fair for putting up this masterpiece together.

The way tracks 8, 9, & 10 are blended together is only an example of what Luke is able to achieve.

Surprisingly, there are tracks featured on this disc that are up to 7 years old, which is testament to the extensive work Luke did while compiling it. It flows seamlessly from beginning to end.

Every single track in CD1 is quality, but the ones that really stood out for me are:

05. Hypnos - Red Light Fucking wonder of a tune
08. Delgui - Highlights (Charles Webster Mix) Sweeeeeeeeet!
09. Julian Jabre - War
10. Tiger Stripes - Amphytrion
16. Nightriders - The Getaway Love that sax!

Score for Disc One: 10/10

I've been meaning to listen to Disc Two but I can't stop listening to Disc One. Sometime today I expect to force myself to stop listening to this bliss of a disc and finally get around to listening to the second one.

Update:
Disc Two:

I just gave Disc Two a quick listen and simply put, it's just BANGIN!

It just builds and builds and builds. I'll post a review when I listen to it again.

Sounds like it's gonna be huge. I hope so. 9 and 10 were giant letdowns for me.

I don't know about 010 because I don't have it, but 009 was great. Great mixing and track selection. Perhaps another listen will make you change your mind

I've listened to 009 almost a dozen times, I just don't really care for the flow. CD 1 is slightly better, and I do like the first half of the set, but then it turns to all this shit diva house that I find highly annoying. Had Paolo stayed with the darker and mellower stuff, I would have liked it more. My favorite track is Mish Mash-Speechless (Three n One Remix) The full track def can use an edit, which Paolo did, and it worked well.

With CD 2, I was sort of feeling the first half, sort of not, and then in the middle of the set, the bass kick just disappears for like 15 minutes. A giant wtf to that!? Although I did enjoy Oscar-The Drum (Hypnotique Mix). Other than that, cd 2 is just trash. Overall, average release. A giant letdown nonetheless for me, because I expect big things with the Balance series. I'm sure everyone does now, after 005.

With 10, I'll just say it's a style that I just don't care for. At least, not in this point in time.

Ok, will post again on topic once I've heard 011.

As mentioned, CD1 is unbelievable! Seeing Luke Fair this coming Friday here in Sydney and hope he just plays CD1 on repeat!lol

Congrats to Luke on such a remarkable effort! Best Balance since Holden 005.

Will just have to wait til June to get my hands on this (when I get back to TO). Can't wait though.

Finished CD 1... what a fucking beauty, I mean wow prog at its best, so melodic, inspiring... so many emotions in that disc. I can see myself whoring this one for a long time, it's a MUST play at the beach.

Just hope second is as good as this one.

Just heard Disc 1 and all I can say is that it's brilliant!!

Posted by RJT on Apr-10-2007 13:52:

I'm a little astounded at how many folks think the first disc is so smashing - I think it's really good, but really love the second disc about a million times more.

Still, great release all around.

Posted by Omega_Blue on Apr-10-2007 13:58:

second disc is much better. imo the first disc's mixing is shoddy at the beginning, but then again i was listening to it in a pair of crappy earbuds.

all in all, the tracklist didn't look that impressive before hearing the mix, and after listening to both discs, i'm still not feelin it. it actually reminds me of the desyn masiello balance 008 hype. everyone was orgasming over it and when i listened to it, i just thought "meh." perhaps the genre(s) just isn't my style. don't get me wrong, you can tell some of the mixes luke did was really well thought out, but other times it just feels like he throws two tracks together.. didn't like the flow... meh.

That's what I was thinking as well - The mixing early on in the first disc, is just not very good. The intro track was one I just wasn't feeling, and then hearing that absolutely wretched (and clearly not well beatmatched) mix out of it really made me want to turn the whole thing off, but once we hit about 20 minutes into the first disc it's smooth sailing, and from there on out, I really love it.

it does get much better about halfway through, but you'd think after realizing he mixed shitty so early on in the cd, he would've just started over and re-done it. no shame in that. i'm gonna listen to this cd again tomorrow and see if it changes my mind a bit..

Posted by lcid on Apr-10-2007 15:38:

programming on disc one pisses all over the programming on disc two.

not to say that disc two is bad or anything... because it's certainly not. i love both discs, but out of the two, disc one is the one that i feel has a much more fluid structure to it. just the way it progresses and builds from beginning to end is like sex.

but i suppose its all a matter of personal preference.
