yea it is, its not a fact that trance is all shit now but it is a fact that its lost wat made it great in the first place and that its more pop than trance now. there doesnt seem to be anything new or innovative happening now which is why alot of people keep saying "its dead" (i think lol)

I think trance is expanding outwards though, pushing the envelope of what it means to be trance. For instance, Ferry's latest album. Is it trance, or electro? Gabriel & Dresden's: trance, house, or pop? I think the guitar elements that G&D have become known for were pretty revolutionary at the time, right? And the sparkly little sounds that Leama and Moor use (like in Moor's Whiteroom for instance) were newish. Again, I'm not an expert, but it does seem that trance is changing, so it can't all just be rehashing the past.

Just the fact that Tiesto can drop Suburban Train, Ame - Rej, and Andain - Beautiful Things in the same set... isn't that somewhat revolutionary? Music seems more interconnected now than it was then, with boundaries between genres more fluid. Then again, I'm sure the boundaries become more distinct in hindsight.

last year's better tracks imo were
above and beyond - good for me (club mix)
luminary - amsterdam
hybrid - just for today
mannix vs kaymak - world gone mad (dan stone remix)
andy hunter - go

i dont listen to much psy or goa trance anymore so that could be different altogether but compare that list to the great tunes u can name for 99 or watever and u see why trance has declined so much. its not "dead" but fuck its dying lol

You're totally centered around the melodic asot scene, no wonder your trance is dying.

Posted by the gamemaster on Mar-11-2007 06:24:

you thought that because of that post? fuck your way off. and i wouldnt call hybrid, andy hunter or the world gone mad track part of the asot scene. im just sick of psy and goa which is why i dont listen to it anymore, those genre's just seem exhausted imo.

good point. i actually dont think trance is "dead" but the reasoning i just said was why other people think its dead. i think its a huge shadow of its former self but far from dead.

Who said anything about psy and goa? And anyway, if you don't listen to it how can you have such a loud opinion about it?

i dont listen to it anymore but i still download the odd track.
and i said i dont listen to them anymore which is where it was mentioned, why did u think i only listen to asot

Trance had a lot of shitty and cheesy tracks back in 1999. Anything Cascada EVER touched was like that for God's sake. This is a simple Nostalgia effect. Yeah trance has a different sound but there are still great songs that will be referenced as "classics" a few years from now. It only seems to have been better in your memory because it was maybe when you were young (in relationg to the genre) and your tastes weren't as refined or maybe you've just forgotten all the terrible songs that were releases back then.

The whole soundtrack was perfect, and the last tune, where the aeroplane takes off is...just perfect electronic music (sounds like early paul van dyk if someone knows it please id).

The last track is definitely Paul Van Dyk - My World (Visual Valley Mix) from The Green Valley EP. Wonderful, often overlooked track.

The first track is either Diamond Bullet or True Love - Breath Of Stars

Go ask the 15,000 people that wil be at Summer Sound System or the 30,000 that were at Trance Energy if trance is dead. These threads are entirely pointless and completely untrue. Booooooooooooooorrrrrrrrrrrrriiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnggggggggggg

they are all hired by Armada records

as for andy hunter -go. its probably the 2006 remix of the 2005 remix of the 2004 remix of the 2003 mix.

Yeah, because people off their fucking tits really give a shit about what's playing.

If i only downloaded the odd melodic track i would get the impression all of it is sean tyas and complete crap. But that's not the case.

I didn't say i think you only listen to asot, but judging from your small list you seem to be very focused on the melodic scene (with the exception of Hybrid). It's just that i find it very hard to understand that you criticize the current state of the trance scene, praise the early/mid-90s sound and want more trancy trance to return, but you don't include a single one of Vibrasphere's productions from the past year in your list.

Posted by MrJiveBoJingles on Mar-11-2007 17:06:

Eh, people have always been off their fucking tits around the modern dance music scene, and in large numbers.

That's one thing that has remained the same, as far as I can tell.

the genre itself has exploded, and has a bigger following now than it ever did.

but that doesnt mean the quality of the tracks being produced is the same as it once was. thats my whole problem.

i've been following the scene very closely since 1997, i've seen this board blow up from a few people in Toronto to millions around the world.

the evolution of oakenfold, the commercialization of tiesto...

trance has changed so much over the past 10 years, and it's at a state now where i'd rather listen to repetitive redundant progressive tech-house than the fromage that is trance today.

thats also true.
massive events are perfect for the drug culture as well.

met so many people over the years that go for the drugs, don't know a thing about the music and only need it when they're fucked
