yeah, and the sound you get when he plays is mainly down to that. A much warmer, crisp sound IMO. Thats why he was in a different position to the other Dj's, so he could use the different mixer.

When we went to see him at turnmills last year, the music stopped for about 5 mins at the start of his set so he could plug his own mixer in

I know the DJM-600 isn't renowned for sound quality, one would look to Rane for that. But there is so much post processing of the signal once it leaves the mixer how could it make that much of a difference?

Is it more of a Garbage in = Garbage out kinda thing? The pioneer 'colours' the sound that much?

i think it does, going back to that thing i mentioned at turnmills when he swapped the mixers over to a silent room, the music sounded so much better afterwards, a much richer, warmer sound. Also, I noticed the difference on my home system and on my cd's when i upgraded from my old pcv-275 to my 62...

i didn't go to this party...but this made me think of something.

awhile back (almost 3 years ago) when i was in nyc, there were rumors that whenever pvd came, he brought a special post-mixer processor that would help give his sets that infamous "pvd" sound with the patent "pvd" kick + clap. outside of his nyc gigs, i've only seen pvd in london @ heaven, and at dancevalley 2005 and didn't really pick up on it...but i wouldn't be surprised that whenever he is able to, pvd will and probably does have a different sound check and/or equipment to make his sets sound the way they do. the sound quality of his sets at twilo, sound factory, and roxy were all the same.

a couple friends and i all were pretty convinced that this processor was basically a multiband compressor that crunched the high frequencies to highlight the attack of pvd's kick and those claps. it was just ridiculous how crisp and clear they would sound compared to other dj's.

no idea how true or false this is...just something to think about.

but i agree tho. a&h mixers blow pioneer ones right out of the water. the djm600 is actually a pretty crap club mixer.

Does anyone have any information on the video cameras that were up on stage? Is it possible to buy a copy of them? Or where those just for the video screens.

I'm still looking for a video of 'Needs to Feel' from PVD's set.

I had a great night, Ferry played the best set, not quite up to the standard of last year, but overall still more than worth it.

I was also lucky enough to meet Second Sun after they played in the chill out room, really nice, down to earth guys.
