Are they fuck.

Posted by Frenchie on Mar-13-2007 20:54:

HA! Well imo French accents aren't hot, regardless of how hot the person who has the accent is. It's just brutal. If you're speaking French you usually sound really nice, but once you switch over to the English language, lord have mercy on your ears.

after living in providence for 6 years, i've come to utterly despise the new england accent. what's even worse, i can now distinguish between massachusetts and rhode island new engladese...

non new englanders who want a taste of southie bostonese, should check out "good will hunting" and "the departed."

"you like aahples?

well i gottah numbaah! howyah like them apples?"

not quite, but i do pepper my speech with "fuggedits" from time to time since i've grown up in bay ridge/bensonhurst, i can do "goumbah" very authentically (much to the amusement of my non-nyc friends and colleagues)

my pops has the really old school new york accent (boids for birds) which is a relic of a bygone era.

it's sad and unfair, but regional accents are widely considered exemplars of ignorance, both in the states and abroad.

i used to think it was kool now i know its ridiculous, and use it mainly for my own entertainment. Its also a great way to get my students to smile when i'm trying to take their picture.

English accents are, in general, ridiculous. No where near as bad as welsh accents though...awful shower of people are the Welsh...

Posted by Caela on Mar-13-2007 23:45:

English & Boston accents =

Southern accents =

I'm from Vermont, so I have a pretty thick New England, "Yankee" accent.

"coffee" = "cahhhfee"
"garage" = "garadge"

I moved from Jersey when I was younger so I still pronounce:

"oarange" = "arrange"
"hystairical" = "hysterrical"

We also say "wicked" often when describing things. Other notable slang words: "dope", "sick", "chill", "package store" (liquor store)

Posted by blazed it on Mar-13-2007 23:49:

um California accent? It's pretty neutral.... so maybe american broadcast? but.... I pepper my speech alot of dude and yo. Kind of bummy beach town speak.

Posted by kadomony on Mar-13-2007 23:53:

philadelphia.

i think the only thing i say with a discernable accent, however is water as "wudder"

Posted by Ygrene on Mar-13-2007 23:56:

There's this big box of a building about 10 minutes away from my house. It has the words "Package Store" written in bold white letters.
