It's stunning to hear you defend that crap, even if I am using "hostile" language. It will be a great country again, when people start believing in that piece of philosophy.

To digress somewhat, there's an interesting argument for how the very speech you quote JFK on has led to the downfall of the American body politick, and not its creation. In his inaugural address, JFK claims that God is on America's side. This is the EXACT same rhetoric mastered by Reagan and later used by Bush to legitimate Iraq. Lincoln famously quipped, "it is not relevant whether God is on our side. Instead, I hope that we are on his."

Important switch in political discourse.

/poli sci lesson.

Sorry, but I am really confused. Who is your subject? You keep saying she didnt vote, etc. Who is she?

quote:
If she doesn't like the war; protest, the government; get involved, corruption; chase it; the president; vote...I'm guessing by the turnout at the last election, she didn't, but now wants the right to complain.

Who is she? Do you mean me?

I should apoligise for defending a person? I am defending myself, which is natural. Your response makes no sense whatsoever, and I never said anything about JFK. All I said was something in response to his quote.

BTW, I have gotten invloved and I vote. I cannot turn off the TV, b/c I dont have one.

Actually, you're correct. I haven't read anything else you've posted on TA in the past 4 years as I'm about 2 days new to this website. I apologize- my post was a bit harsh. I just get a bit frustrated, particularly with this topic. Apologies.

Was completely unnecessary/unwarranted. My suggestion: Why don't you educate yourself on the subject before you just hop on the bandwagon and dish out insults to everyone who has an opinion that differs from the ones you've inherited from media/propoganda/other people that really have no clue what they're talking about. Then maybe we'll talk.

Who said my comment was directed to you?

I would disagree.. the 'bitching' about services while ignoring how they are funded is as intrinsic to being canadian

Posted by Frenchie on Mar-15-2007 05:08:

I dunno what kinda crack you're smoking but you are generalizing and stereotyping...that's the word I was looking for stereotyping. I'm Canadian and everything that you listed I don't want or think of. So NO, not all Canadians are retarded.

You'll have to forgive us Americans. We base much of what we know about Canada on the John Candy movie "Canadian Bacon."

If you're that much against it, fucking move!

So would I be correct in summing up your opinion thus: "Yay the US is so great because people are free to speak their minds... but if their minds are contrary to government policy they should get the fuck out!"
That about right?

Yay for American democracy!

quote:
Either that, or stop being so blindly manipulated by the media and other's opinions. If you do a little research outside of CNN and Fox News you might find that going into Iraq was completely justified.

Holy shit you've got the be all and end all opinion on what is right or wrong. Obviously you have the absolute truth and only you can be correct - everyone single other person that doesn't agree is clearly just manipulated by the media and should leave the country! If everyone listened to you we wouldn't need freedom of speech. All hail the Oracle!

quote:
Granted, the cost/duration might have been underestimated, but 1. I'm glad we went in, 2. I'm glad Hussein is gone,

Great for you, but are you prepared to stay there until the average Iraqi's quality of life is at least back to the level it was at before you went in? Or are you just happy to go in destabilise it, realise how many soldiers you'll lose in discharging your responsibility to restabilise the country and let everyone else clean up your mess?

quote:
3. despite what CNN might report- most Iraqis are, too. And for every other Muslim extremist/terrorist we take out while we're over there... great- that's one less guy that'd give his life to crash a plane into a fucking building full of innocent people, or plant a bomb on a train full of innocent people in London. Wake up.

Have you conducted a wide survey accross Iraq, or are you just basing that conclusion on the three pics you posted? Until I see something concrete I'm not willing to conclude anything about popular opinion in Iraq.

Speaking of concrete evidence, I haven't seen any that links Iraq to Al Quaeda or suggests that the US invasion did anything to make the world safer. Do the few extremists they kill over there outweigh the Muslims that have become radicalised because of the invasion?... again I've seen nothing concrete.

Average house price is 200,000.00 ($400,000.00)
8 Week waiting list for basic Operation
Average of 8Mb Broadband available only
Full of Illegal's claiming benfits and free houses.
Most criminals are released because of our Prisons are Full,
2 Inches of snow and all the roads are f*cked.
Goverment Ban on Junk food advertisements.
Police officers dont even carry guns.

List is pretty much endless...

Whats your Reason ?

Some I agree with some I don't agree with.

Should of posted this in the political forum.

- Welfare benefit scroungers all the chavs in the UK are the production of a nanny welfare state.
- No employment benefit after a year of being out of work unless your seriously ill or disabled.
- Champagne Socialists, you've never lived on a council estate or in a working class area so don't even tell me what is like to be working class.
- Immigration system needs to based on a points system in accordance with British labour demands we have a lack skilled workers in certain industries we allow workers from abroad to come over and bridge the skill gaps.
- The Cops are rubbish either brutal or idiots who should be teachers and yes they should have guns. Scrap community support officers waste of time.
- Revamp of the education system, bring up the age which people finish school to 18. Allow vocational qualifications in schools to for more technical jobs or advanced qualifications, allow companies to invest in scholarships for people taking vocational courses etc. It's unfair to base peoples education path one two or three exams.
- Encourage more people to join the armed forces invest more money in the armed forces, bring back national service for persistant trouble makers if you like to fight every Saturday night then fight in Afghanistan.
- Tax duty to be put on Junk food like Cigarettes and booze since people classify obesity as a medical problem then if you want to get fat pay price.
- Regeneration in poor areas of the UK. Revamp the parks built community projects etc.
- Bring back the industries to the UK. British companies should be based in the UK and employ British people. None of this outsourcing lark because it costs 10p to do in China rather then 1 pay for Quality not Quanitity.
- Sort of the problem with people who don't want to intergrate into British society. If you don't like it over here and do not want intergrate then go back to where you came from.
- Last but not least quit the EU. We should not be told what to do by some beaucrat in Brussels we used to rule one third of the world! We pay billions to the EU every year which could be invested on the UK what do we get in return a load of immigrants!

Ah well rant over I've gone a bit mad!

Because Its Full of trance haters
8 Year waiting list for basic Operation
Average of 2Mb Broadband available only
Full of Illegal's claiming benfits and free houses.
Most criminals are released because of not enough proofs (even existing proofs)
When it rains, its always windy at the same time.
Streets and arquitectures are badly done.
Police are too fat and cant run to get tha gangstrz.

there's lot more, but ill leave it like this lol.

I Hate My Country (Finland) Because:

- The summer here lasts two months if lucky and the rest of the ten is just all kinds of garbage coming down from a grey sky.
- 99% of the youngsters listen only to anything top-40 and does not have the slightest interest in electronic music.
- Those who love electronica are mainly trance-lovers (and very passionate, which is a good think obviously). But it's just such a small crowd, if you want to play less commercial house or anything close to electro you're alone.
- NOBODY LISTENS TO TECHNO
- NOBODY RESPECT'S THE DJ'S
- NOBODY LIKES THE RECORDS I PLAY

Posted by Lilith on Mar-15-2007 12:07:

Hmm, places I lived.
South Africa, really don't like 'my type' there when I was growing up...racist filth...
England, people whinge too much about the wrong things and very 'clique' in areas, you either fit in or you don't depending on where you come from.
Australia, barely anyone tours here on a regular basis, can be a bit dull, has large bitey spiders which frighten the hell out of me.
Zimbabwe, a good place to get shot at, lost a lot of assets there.
USA, one of the few places on earth more rabidly religious outside the middle east and they cancelled my work visa.
Australia, yup back here again, prone to following the US into stupid wars which most people should keep well away from.

Aside from that, I've got no national sentiment to any country

'Stereotyping' is a taboo word these days, but Canadians are different from Americans and both are different from Mexicans because each group has a set of characteristics that inform their national identity. It's equivalent to having a 'national psychological accent'.

Canadian males like hockey. The fact that 100% of Canadian males do not like hockey doesn't make it untrue.

In your age group, what percentage of Canadians would sign a petition whose title was "Reduce Tuition Fees"?

How many would sign a petition whose title was "Reduce Tuition Fees by increasing hospital wait times"?

It's that disconnect that makes Canadians retarded regardless of which specific slice of the pie they want to be bigger.

Ok that came out wrong but if you take a second look. I misspelled *shot* and instead wrote *shit*.

The first statement is right on. Especially when your school has a budget of 128million dollars and the teachers are sh!t.

-taxes are too high and they are always going higher due to massive waste of spending our money.

What is wrong with this? Well if you keep on taking money away from the people and giving tax breaks to the rich. Guess what? You make it so much harder for the middle class to live. When you are in the government you are suppose to not burden the middle class but at least fucking try to help them. If you notice most people don't want handouts so they don't take from the gov. And the ones that do get the support of the fucking gov. They have lawyers on their side and get free handouts from food stamps and housing. Its a fucking disgrace. And whats worse are people like you. Oh and you know your education is shit when the majority of people going to uni major in fucking communication!

*takes out shotgun, loads shotgun, aims at your head and BOOM head brain spallters(sp anyone) all over the cockpit!!!*

hey if its not too late. Who's this gurl?

In response to your first question: No, that's not what I was saying at all. It has nothing to do with the fact that America is a democracy and people have the freedom to speak their minds. I was merely saying that if you are unhappy here- why stay and bitch about it, why not move to a place where you're more happy?

Concerning the rest of your post- no I don't claim to have all of the answers, but I have done quite a bit of research on the subject and I've also come to the conclusion that the media never tends to report positive things as much as the negative because than there really wouldn't be much of a story.

As far as the 3 pictures I've posted, no- I haven't based my opinion solely on those- in fact, I've been deployed and I've seen a lot of positive changes take place overseas. Problems, of course- but that's to be expected when you have muslim extremeists that want to kill everyone who doesn't believe in their religion and way of life.

As far as Iraq being linked to Al-Qaeda. Yes! I believe that Iraq is and has been linked to Al-Qaeda- and I've posted only a few of many sources that support this.
