reliable + cheap = mazda protege
you could easily find like a 2003 model for under 10k in good condition.
i'm starting to think i can afford a little more than $10k, so now i'm looking at cars around $12-$13k... and i'm starting to look at Certified "Pre-Loved" Volkswagens just because they offer a 2-year/24k mile warranty.
anyone have any experience with Golfs? i know they've got great safety ratings and this one is almost exactly what i'm looking for...
2003 Volkswagen Golf GLS Wagon

I have a VW and the only the thing that happened to me was some lame electrical thing, got that replaced under warranty of course. They're fast, strong, really safe, and have loads of storage. ESPECIALLY the Golf! Hatch back with drop down seats in teh back = pretty much tote around whatever you want.
see thats a good start..

Myra, if you are going to get the Golf/GTI dont get the ones that have the vin 9BW..get the ones that have the vin WVW. the 9BW are made in mexico whereas the WVW are made in Germany.
i am pretty sure this applies to all vws.
here is a good one..too bad its mexican made
this would be a badass fun one...too bad its not AWD. they have bad traction problems when you get some good hp numbers.
one thing i would recommend is NOT trading your car in. you have more bargaining power if you don't have a trade-in. sell the car as is for 3200. take your $1200 from tax return and you have almost 4.5k! then go find the car you want and find a dealer that has it. then say look. this is what i will pay for the car. ive already been told i can have it for this much out the door at another dealer. take it or leave it.
also...go in the last few days of the month. they need to make sure they make their sales goals and they are willing to bargain more at the end of the month. if you can go on a day with SHITTY weather too! both of those in combination mean you will get a relatively good deal.

| Originally posted by lcid i'm totally cool with getting trade-in value for my car. the car is paid off and it's just a lot more convenient for me to trade it in and leave the lot in my new car, rather than trying to find a buyer and dealing with selling it privately. i know i could get more for it, but it's just not worth the hassle. lol maybe i'll go test drive that Golf tomorrow. it's the last day of the month and we're supposed to have thunderstorms all day. |

I know shit all about cars, they just don't interest me at all.
Be careful with Mitsubishi's...I had a 2000 Eclipse and as much as I loved it, it had electrical problems after a while which I've heard is very common in Mitsu's
If you really want one, go for the lancer.
I have a Scion TC now which is love (it's toyota) but it's pretty pricey. If you want a good affordable Toyota go for the Corolla
(oh yeah & I stole the couch avatar from you a long time ago...thanks babes)
