| Originally posted by Dr. DAS Did you read through this whole thread, or just jump on the first post you saw? Because, I've got to tell you, I never said I support this war, this INVASION. Do I consider people who use women and children as human shields and decoys savages? Yes. Do I consider people who target women and children savages? Yes. Do I consider people who can't just agree to disagree about what sect of the SAME RELIGION is correct and instead need to kill each other savages? Yes. And points one and two go for anyone, be them 'insurgents' or professional soldiers. You think I'm the reason they want to blow shit up? Reality check my friend. I'm disgusted by what's happening there - on both sides - so don't come strolling into a thread and shooting off at the mouth, presuming to know my position. Take your high moral ground and go live in the sand with a rifle if you're so angry. Just try not to kill any children. |
as a US Army Captain who has spent time in Iraq i'll toss my 2 cents in..
the driving first- its merited b/c of the whole you stop for 2 seconds and yes you are a sitting duck... the US has long been there enough for all the Iraqis to know to pull over when the convoy of Humvees roll through... they did honk their horn... not paying attention to one's surroundings by the Iraqi drivers is their own fault... that "tapping" on the bumpers is being nice.... id have my gunner throw a rock at their back windshield if that was my truck.....my reasoning is that if i weigh my life to that windshield then i choose my life, so what, he has to fix it,.. i get to live.. i win... as a Soldier you always have to keep your guard up and assume that any vehicle can be a VBIED at any time...
all the US Soldiers including myself who had to go there a year are pissed off at the Iraqi's and the fact that there is civil unrest there... we were all forced away from our familes and friends and tend to take it out on the general population... individually though, we help the iraqis out as much as is humanly possible...
as long as there are bad dudes blowing shit up... there is a need for military presence, US or Iraqi, preferably Iraqi, which is our main focus these days, to get them in the shape to deal with their own problems
a Soldier, any Soldier from any nation, has to go there with the mind set that anybody can kill you at any moment... those inconveniences that the Iraqi people are put through are just that, inconveniences and yes innocent people die sometimes, War is hell..
as soon as the IEDs and ambushes stop killing Amercian/coalation Soldiers then society can look at Iraq as not a war and victorious
