no but honestly though, what has sasha done in the past few years that is so incredible? his set's are mediocre at best also but people talk about him like he's some sort of a god

Posted by slingshot on Apr-02-2007 03:13:

I highly doubt that alot of people in this thread are even in the position to say whether or not a dj is overated. In order to pass judgement on that you would have to listen to ALOT of stuff from that dj over a LONG period of time to be able to form any sort of accurate judgement at all.

Also, what exactly is meant by over-rated? One would think that it would be an exageration of the dj's level of skill, no?

Tink about it.

i don't deny sasha's dj skills, i just think that he's more popular than he should be

lol, it wasn't a question for you....it was just a question in general.

in regards to sasah...i think i'd personally have to agree with jon's statement.

the man is a genious but sometimes he completely loses you while he is being that genious.....ie. 30 min ableton mix and him completely forgetting that the crowd even exists.

I disagree with this. A perfect example is Richie Hawtin. I've seen him about 6 or so times. 3 times he bored the shit out of me, and once he was ok, but the other 2 times he was a god. Untouchable. 2 of the most amazing music experiences I've ever had in my entire life.

By this logic, Tiesto is still the greatest. Once in a blue moon the man still drops a beautiful mix. 9/10 times he will drop effortless self-promotional shit. Can't respect that.
(Forgot to put Hawtin on that damn list as well)

I agree you probably should have seen a lot of what the DJ can do before you call someone overrated...Some people just seem to dislike someone and drop a name out.

On that note, how the fuck could everyone have forgotten David freaking Guetta.
Thanks for that one spin.

No we don't. You've heard one mix by him so please don't even comment. Danny has way more depth as a DJ than almost every other DJ out there.

I don't know why I read your post in a Kermit the Frog voice, but it was quite funny.

Dude, Hawtin founded Beatport, invented Final Scratch, and has influenced more of the music you listen to in the EDM world and otherwise than you realize.

Posted by infinity HiGH on Apr-02-2007 03:49:

Scumfrog is overrated.

edit: this thread is jokes. Some of the statements made by some people are borderline retarded. Hawtin = overrated? Holy fuck

As for Sasha being overrated. Oh please...the last year or 2 may not have been his strongest but considering how long he's been in the game, and how long he's been on top, he can afford 2 years of mediocrity.

Posted by oldschool420 on Apr-02-2007 03:52:

I think this is all kind of pointless. It seems to be taking the turn of "what dj I don't like" instead of overrated djs, and even overrated completely varies based on a persons experiences and musical preference.

Holy shit man....I never thought about that....It all makes sense now...I will go back and relive each of the last 8 or so times I've seen the guy (over many years), listen to all of the mixes I obtained to give the guy more chances, and restate my opinion.

TRASH

Just a damn opinion on his DJ'ing people, not his influence. Someone out there has a problem with every single name posted today. Oh well.

Lol,@ kermit the frog....Did u just come from zone Tb???

Posted by petro on Apr-02-2007 04:11:

^^^ nah, just entertaining myself lol

But on a serious note, i think Sander K is overrated. I guess I'll never forgive him for making that last party at System so utterly average.

I have had some pretty epic experiences with the man.. last being a week ago Thursday in Miami.

As Special K said.. he RIPPED it. He was so good I wanted to have his babies..

How's that for building a hype that is sure to disappoint some?

Which would then cause others to say he is over rated..

Yes and no... John Acquaviva had/has major influence as well in all aspects you described.

Yes, I know he has. That doesn't take away from how much of a genious Richie is though.

Very true. I'll agree with you that hands down.

definitely DJ Danny D, I saw him at club 338 last week, his mixing was terrible

Takes away from how much of a genius you are though.

j/k, I love it when people misspell 'genius' because that word is usually used in a sarcastic manner.

he sucks now to be honest.. way too overrated

Sasha is one of my all-time fave DJs....
But presently he doesnt play music i particularly like.

Too minimal, no direction it seems, fuckin HURTS to not have the glorious prog of Sasha nowadays...

Having said that, this does not mean he will stay this way forever.

I did really enjoy his WMC mix tho

PS. who ever said Digweed, that can really only mean you dont like that specific sound/genre.
Unlike Sasha, he DOES still play a ton of music i love
