I have a couple of friends whose pictures were stolen from their online blogs and used on various dating sites... or even within the same blog server(livejournal)

Congrats man. I hope everyone finds what they want in life. For me things come in time (years it seems) I guess.

As for stealing pics, that's just sad.

Yeah, I don't get the motive behind that... are they looking to hook up with people who are BLIND? Because eventually you will meet them, and eventually they'll know your whole relationship up to that point was based off a lie.

no, cuz if they are blind they cannot see the profile pic

btw this thread is tres gay lol

I think it can work so long as the "online" part isn't permanent, *captain obvious you would think, but that isn't always the case...*

Anyway, I met my first serious boyfriend on the net... granted it wasn't on an internet dating service, but it was the net nonetheless. I ended up with him for three years (and yes, it was an in person real life relationship).

EVERYONE is on the internet these days, so why is it not possible for you to meet someone just as normal as yourself (not encouraging?)?

I think it can work.

sorry chris, i'll have to completely disagree with you on this one. there are tons of beautiful women in toronto (esp where i live near yonge/eg). everyday, beautiful women everywehre! and it's not that hard meeting them either, just know how to maintain eye contact, smile and maintain positive energy and you'll go along ways my friend!

Posted by Porky on Apr-25-2007 10:59:

to reply to this thread, i'll have to admit dating several girls from online (my exgf is even a TA), and the odds are pretty much the same as in real life. you'll meet as many psychos online as you do offline.

but the context of online dating really matters. if you go completely cold turkey (lavalife, match.com) than it's more likely that you'll meet the weirdos (pyscho women), but if you meet them within a social context like a social forum (TA) than people's true personalities come out.

i'm still friends with my exgf-TA, and her other TA friends. It's no big deal to me b/c it's a great way to meet someoen with similar interests (music), but it definitely is a big deal to some of my RL friends who still attach a stigma to meeting people from online. which is another strange thing for me b/c i've met so many TAs from all over and find it completely natural!

Adam and I met on plentyoffish. I hadn't been chatted up for a year and started to think I was a minger.

I was registered for about 2 months and used to get between 50-60 messages a day - I used to read them just for fun - never responded really except perhaps to a couple.

Then I got a message that I was compelled to reply to - it wasn't long or particularly great but it was sweet and he said he loved house music so I replied. We chatted for a week then we went on the most perfect first date ever.

That was 2 months ago.

Well I understand that, which makes the point of it even more confusing.

Agreed. It had a good start tho.

one of the good thing about online dating is that it allows ppl the oppurtunity to express themselves a little more honestly, to strip away the pretentiousness, etc.

The bad thing is it allows slimey peeps to meet others more covertly, kinda like texting your hoochie for a booty while you're on sitting on the crapper during your date

Posted by robbiej on Apr-25-2007 15:55:

here is something pretty funny.. last sat at koolhaus my friend roger hooked up with a friend of mine and they were all over each other - then some girl asked "aww you guys are cute, how long have you been together"... they both turned to each other and laughed "we met 2hrs ago!!" hahah
