-- Roll Call: Global Marijuana March May 5th, 2007

Info about all of this week's activities-> Toronto Freedom Festival
For those of you who are interested in the issues upon which this march is focussed:
1) One of my past professors--the intelligent and charismatic Alan Young--will be speaking @ 5:45pm. He will be talking about reform to Canada's prostitution laws. More to the point at issue, Professor Young was a key lawyer in one of the three cases which made their way up to the Supreme Court a few years ago in which the Court, in a very important decision, ruled that the criminalization of the possession of cannabis is necessary in order to protect the roughly 5-10% of people who may react negatively to the drug's consumption (e.g. pregnant individuals, those suffering from schizophrenia, and so on). A few years back he also successfully represented (i.e., secured an acquittal for) one of Toronto's most well-know marijuana compassion clubs which illegally distributes (i.e., sells) medical marijuana to individuals suffering from certain diseases. Young--a regular user of cannabis--teaches at UofT and Osgoode Law School; he is both loved and, alternatively, hated by many people. If anyone has the chance to catch what he has to say I recommend doing so: he is a good speaker, often funny, and enjoyable to listen to.
2) Marc Emery will also be speaking (those of you who have some knowledge about famous Canadian legal cases regarding marijuana will understand why Emery is an important figure who will likely be a treat to listen to).

The actual march was the best part. Nothing like smoking a blunt in the middle of Yonge & Bloor beside a few cops. Liberating. And what a beautiful day. Amazing.

One of the main reasons why I loved it last year was the combination of being baked and dancing to good tunes in the sun. There were no tunes... disaster. Although I did enjoy lounging around in the park and chilling with some of you, it wasn't the same. I left at 5ish to do better things... but the funnel cakes were delicious
