Long live Backstreet.
It was the first dance club I visited in my life and pretty much made me the fan I am today of EDM.
My friend and I would give Rob Reum new tracks to play every weekend for a while. The times spent there with friends will never be forgotten and as A1C said, all cultures, gay, straight, black, white, asian, etc, met equally on the dance floor and shared some amazing times.
WETbar will never reach the heights of Backstreet, nor will any other club in Atlanta but I will say that the two times I've been to WETbar, I've had a blast. Good crowd, great sound and just an all-around good vibe.
Yes, I'm interested to see if Opera will be as nice as I've been hearing and also what is to come of its future but honestly, this town doesn't need another f'n Compound.

| Originally posted by A1C Backstreet was a dance club that catered to the gay crowd, but was frequented by a large variety of patrons... you saw EVERYONE in that place... it was a total melting pot for culture. The best times were had in the after hours portion... it was THE after hours club for the city of Atlanta, before legislation was passed that hindered it's functioning in that capacity, and eventually led to it's closing, after 26 years of operation. In that 26 years, it's mission statement never changed. It's name never changed. It's dance floor never changed. They created an underground culture that lasted it's entire existance. It was a place where people came together to dance.. experiment sexually... experiment with drugs. It really was a place where you could hear incredible house music and just be yourself, without the fear of being judged... It was Atlanta's greatest dance club and a club of the likes will probably never be seen in that town again... ![]() |
LoL they didnt even have a alcohol they just sold water and gatoraid or was that a different club... gosh I forget
No, they had b00ze... their slogen was, "Always Pouring"
Blu was the club that didn't sell alcohol when it first opened... Cause of the circuit parties...
BS closed in 04 i believe...

OMG OMG!! Tall Paul is coming in August? I have been asking about him coming for 3 years!! Thanks Liquified!! This is effin sweet!

Eric Prydz won't go anywhere where he has to fly on a plane.

Sebastian Telfair?
Oh yes, Prydz would be an epic event in Atlanta....Talk about the whole city coming out!!
1983 !!!!!!!!!!!

can tickets be bought at the club in advance...as in today(Monday) or tomorrow(Tuesday June 12th)?
doors open at 9:00 pm tomorrow! Get there early to get your 3 hours of nasir before Ferry!!!!
Advance tickets are $20 right now, get them before they are gone!
So is Ferry going to be there tonight? He missed his show in Miami last night
ok, my review...
They definitely have some kinks to work out. The flier said dorrs open at 9, but they opened at 10. Nasir wound up playing to an empty club for an hour. Then, once inside, we were told to wait before entering because they didn't know if people had paid for a ticket and whether they were will-call or guestlist or whatever.
onto the club,
Initially, the new design of the club looked really nice. Much better entryway, good paint job, the bars are better and there are two more of them, and the hardwood flooring and chandeliers look really swanky. Other than that, the sound system seems to have gotten worse. There was WAY TOO MUCH FUCKING BASS! This time the bass actually distorted heavily all throughout, not to mention it got fucking painful.
They moved the dj booth (by that I mean they have it on stage, no more bucket), but it's elevated. I heard that it's on a hydraulic system to where it can be lowered, but I have no evidence of that. Now the dj booth is in a really fancy bucket it seems, and the speakers are RIGHT THERE with the HEAVY BASS killing your ears horribly. Eek.
Nasir was an ok dj at best. His set just plodded along with no real direction. It kept people moving but that's it, nothing interesting whatsoever about it. I kept yawning throughout.
Ferry's set was alright. He got the energy going. I left at 2am, but here are some tracks I remember hearing...
Gouryella - Ligaya
Ferry Corsten - Beautiful
Ferry Corsten - L.E.F.
Alex M.O.R.P.H. & Rank 1 - Life Less Ordinary (remix)
that Queen remix of Bohemian Rhapsody as featured in his 5 Years of Beautiful Things set
bah, there are far better people for IDing trance tunes than I.
jog on!
All in all an alright time.
kryo system was nice
sound system was nice up on the elevated part...i thought it kinda sucked down on the main floor
ferry's set was kinda lame...he played the same electro sound the whole time with way too many breakdowns...there were some sick ones tho
i spent the whole time on my phone trying to get a tracklist...too bad there are way too many ID's
some tracks that i caught:
Sonorous - glass garden
Ferry Corsten - Junk
Breakfast - The Sunlight (JPL remix)?
some zombie nation remix?
Ferry Corsten - Fire
Bedrock - Heaven Scent
a sensation theme for first encore
it wasn't that packed but the crowd was going nuts the whole time
my review sucks but i had a good time...ears are ringing no doubt
i suck for missing life less ordinary and for not meeting any of you

I was in bed at 10:30 last night. Sounds like I didn't miss much.
Well I guess you could say you missed 'a show', it wasn't his best gig, it wasn't his worst either.
Being new to Atlanta, I can't compare to how Opera sounded compared to eleven50, but the new sound was alright, very bass-oriented which someone mentioned above...
The crowd had a fairly high energy level, so regardless of anything else it was a fun night.
i really wanted to make it to this (seen ferry a bunch of times in the past and always had a good time), but it sounds like i didn't miss anything too special for my tastes... not a huge fan of his electro stuff and i really hate it when sound systems are heavily bass-oriented. regardless, would have liked to been there last night.
anything big trance-related coming to atlanta before tiesto in september???
