Darkbeat & Pretty Simple present Lee Burridge (Event Review)

Commemorating the brand new release in the Balance series, Lee Burridges tour brought the man down under to the home of the Balance phenomenon, Melbourne. Less then a week after the official release of the latest edition to the mix collection, Burridge had high standards to live up to after hearing his 3 disc compilation.

Alongside the Englishman were the local talents of Phil K, Dave Pham, Rollin Connection, Dean Millson, Tom Pandzic (head of EQ recordings) and more.

Opening the main room was one of Melbournes most in demand Techno DJs, Dave Pham playing a high quality set, as always, following were the boys from Rollin Connection who lived up to their name and mixed together an amazing set which got a full crowd ready for the start of Lee Burridge.

Unfortunately a bit later then anticipated Lee was still ready as ever, humbly choosing to mix out of the last track from Rollin Connection, rather then start from silence. The cheerful DJ made himself a whole lot of new friends as he constantly found time to shake hands and speak with crowd members, all the whilst mixing tune after tune without fault. Playing a superb set it was also a nice change seeing an international that played nearly 100% vinyl, and could do it well.

Unlike certain other DJs, it was interesting to hear a completely new set from Lee and not just a selection of tracks from his Balance CD; in fact ids were both few and far between. With the tunes rolling along it wasnt long before Lee had to give it, although he did play an extra half hour to compensate for his tardiness. Mingling with fans after he finished this DJ is a true gentleman, constantly smiling and willing to chat with anyone. Meanwhile one of Australias biggest exports, Phil K tore up the crowd with his trademark tunes and enthusiasm, playing his final Australian show for the year.

Not forgetting the tireless efforts of the support from locals in the side room, the music was just as good as the main room with guys like Lister Cooray, Tom Pandzic, Ryan Quinsee, and specifically Harley Augustine, Dean Millson and Dave Juric, who kept a crowd dancing the whole time Burridge rocked the main room. Topping the night of was Lee Burridge and local producer Andy Pages tune Do You Smoke Pot?, played by Dave Juric.

With the after party being held at the infamous 161, Melbourne was to receive another offering of Lee Burridge. Playing just after he left F4, Lee took change of the intimate room and played some amazing tracks, possibly some that outshined his first set. Certain tracks he played were Rollin Brooklyn, Starwaves by Esoterik, Tristesse and Antioxidation from his Balance and his final track, Blank Images by The Viewers. An amazing way to finish of such a great night, Lee proved himself yet again with fans continually chatting to him, even during transitions and not surprisingly, receiving marriage proposals.

Well done to the Darkbeat and Pretty Simple crew for putting together such a fantastic night and morning, and kudos to Lee Burridge and all the locals who played so many great tracks. If theres one thing you dont want to miss this year, its Lee Burridge, not only an International DJ but a true fan of the music. Albeit his main set was totally rocking and had the large crowd going crazy, dont miss the chance to see Lee Burridge if he gets to play to a smaller, more intimate room.

4.5/5

Highly recommened you don't miss him live! Absolute champ... see him at a small venue if possible also

+1

Finally listened to disc 1 on the way to SF. Loved that ripperton track at the start. Then the mix kind of gets a little too spaced out imo, although the tracks are nice, but it finally picks up into something solid around track 4 I think. The rest of the ride is spectacular. That last track is nuts. I still have CDs 2 and 3 to listen to...
