-- Review for Ferry Corsten at Sky bar
Pages (6): « 1 2 3 [4] 5 6 »
out of curiosity, is it really that worth it to disco biscuit? like it was only a few hrs long (although i guess some of you thought it would go till 5 or 6)
one word. meh.
got in at 11.15 or so and there was NO line up at all. wtf! got up and it was rammed as mentioned before. and fuck, no one would keep still. always walking around, pushing, shoving. fuck, horrible horrible crowd, with a few exceptions aka the TOTAs.
sound was ok considering it was outside. the view though was really amazing. hope those islanders got an ear full of bass at 2am.
i really thought this would be in my top 5 of parties of the year but it didnt even come close. the music was good until about the last 3 or 4 tracks. after ferry stopped, i thought he was gonna do an hour of classics starting off with madagascar. it was the perfect time for it too, but no. damn guv.
the main thing i liked was partying with that close group of people. you guys are awesome.
i barely didnt even get to take any pics, but here are the ones i
did take.
and now a couple of sketchtards
this was me waiting for my bus. beautiful sunrise.
vids will be up soon

Originally posted by Cosmic Fur It's going to be hard picking anything I even liked about last night. First thing I'll mention is that the line was waaayyyy overhyped - we went in at like 12, and waited just a few mins in the very short line. Get there at 10pm my ass. Once we got inside the main problem of the night presented itself - the crowdiness. It was way waaaayyyyy too packed. We could barely find a spot to stand, nevermind dance. Anytime you started dancing, within a few seconds you were either pushed, bumped into, moved aside, stepped on, or had to move to let somebody through. It was sooo frustrating. I mean, even if you wanted to enjoy yourself, you just couldn't. Half the time I couldn't even raise my hands over my head cause it was so packed. HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO ENJOY HANDS-IN-THE-AIR TRANCE IF I CAN'T EVEN GET MY HANDS IN THE AIR??? I was thinking, "hey, If I get pretty wasted and go to the front of the DJ booth, I'll be able to rock out with the crowd no matter what". But no, in front of the DJ booth it was BRUTAL. And the speakers sucked too. It was loud (if you were standing right next to one), but there was no bass, no OOMPH. And as soon as you stood outside of the direction of the speaker, the music would be drowned out by the voices. Meh. Which brings me to my next point, WHAT WAS UP with all the FERRY WORSHIPPING that was going on? I've never seen this kind of fanboyism before. He actually stopped the music completely just so they could repeatedly chant his name. WTTTFFF??? I felt like I was at a Backstreet Boys concert. It'd be halfway acceptable if Ferry was dropping a HUGE set, but I don't think anyone will argue that his set was average at best. I'd much rather see a crowd go off to an artist by dancing like crazy (which was impossible because everyone was crammed in like sardines), than by standing there chanting his name like retards. Goes without saying that I didn't enjoy the crowd either. Sorry if I wasn't really chatty with anyone (I must have seemed so dazed), but I was in that state of mind where you are in denial of what's going on and you're trying your best to just ignore it all. And the last surprise of the night - the music was completely shut off by 3am sharp. I came to Skybar expecting Ferry to play till 4, then they would shut Skybar down and people would move to the Drink to finish their night. considering it cost $30, I don't think that was such a far fetched expectation. Instead, I was forced to leave the club at a measly 3am, 3 hours after I came in, still drunk and high. Wow. Honestly, Guv has been disappointing me soo much lately. I don't want to sound like one of those vain arseholes, but I think they're going over the limit here. It's so easy to see that Guv just doesn't give a shit about its patrons AT ALL. As long as they get our money, that's all that matters. We have to put up with soooo much of their crap - the lineups, the constant overcrowdedness, misadvertisement of prices, the sketch, and it just keeps getting worse and worse. It's like the only person who actually cares about providing an enjoyable experience to the customers is the DJ. Especially when you compare it to clubs like FootWork whose staff go SO far to make sure everyone has a wicked time inside. After yesterday, I just feel like $30 was stolen from me. In terms of music, highlights of the night were the same songs that were the highlights of the night when I saw him at Labour Of Love. That was 9 months ago. Ferry, please find some new records to play. It's great that you play the classic tracks, but there are A LOT of classic tracks to choose from. Dropping Punk, Doom's Night, and Galaxia everytime you come just gets stale. So that's about it. Nice seeing Orko, Jeff, Lisa, and Andielips (holy crap it was awesome meeting you btw). Oh yeah, and Italian_poison, lol. Sorry if I missed anyone - I think I'm still in a state of shock over the night.

Reading some of these post makes part of me glad I didn't attend. I have a policy for years that I don't party when there's work the next day. Still there is part of me that wished I went, but Thursday night with a Friday workday is a no-no. Too many ways to kill or wound yourself in construction. Need all your wits about you or your in trouble. From what I've read, Ferry better update his tracks or he'll start to fade like Tiesto (contrary to what others might say).

Although some of the reviews are great - I'm glad I didn't go because the crowd factor seems to have detracted from the evening.
Die-hard Ferry fans (Lisa) would obviously like any opportunity to hear their favorite DJ - but for those who would be going more of "an evening out" it seems like the consensus was that it wasn't that enjoyable.
Glad those who enjoyed it had fun. Sorry to those who had complaints.

i had a good time.. ferry played the same style i expected him to.. sure it was crowded, but wasn't nearly as bad as freedom at least. i thought the crowd was really good though and were enjoying themselves, anyone notice that there were no sketch azns at all? surprised me...
i probably don't need to say how disappointing the 3am ending was.. by 3:05 a lot of people left.. and "the rest of us" (haha) were all wondering wtf to do, it was like a bunch of fish out of water lol. all the people it caused to hang out outside and in the parking lots at once at that hour probably was more harmful to the guv than if they had kept it open a few more hours and made a little noise
Overall I had a pretty slammin time...
Ferry did basically what i expected of him..nothing outta this world but dropped some of his classics and had the crowd going pretty much the whole night.
I would have loved for him to step up and drop it harder like we all know he can, but it was never to be. WTF 3:00am cutoff?! Thats was rediculous...
It was crazy rammed, but we all knew it would be like that. Once again its th ppl your with that make the party, and shoutouts to all you that i met last night...too many to list lol
I actually liked the venue to be honest. Crowd was way better then ususal skybar saturdays, and i mean sure, the sound sucked....but getting to see Ferry play in such an INTIMATE setting truely made up for it...
Ferry 6/10
Overall 7/10

Originally posted by dnmr He said he was here for the entire week then leaving for Calgary today. He wasn't dancing.. more just standing and bobbing, lol! As for Ferry- he said he enjoys him, but that he has many DJ's that he likes to see and all for very different reasons. He refused to pick a fav, haha! I thought that overall it was good times. We all knew, or should have, what to expect going into this. and truthfully it was no where near as packed as I had expected it to be, Regular saturdays are sometimes way worse than that. Good times

Dan and rob you guys are fucking awesome lol
yeah, the party sucked pretty much as others have said. glad that had the opportunity to chat a little bit with some fellow TA's, it is always a plus.
ciao ciao, till the next one!

Originally posted by chinamon that piece of tupperware seemed to work fairly well, even in outdoor conditions. tonight i get to test it in indoor conditions. probably the best $72 i spent on a piece of plastic.
Me@tkatie is the single best name ever.
When Cosmic introduced me, I finally realised the pun, and I almost died laughing on the inside.
