Originally posted by Omega_M The actual pronunciations seem to be quite different. Phonetically, does Lira sound more like 'Lirah' or does it have a slight hint of "e" like 'Lireh' ? Markus seemed to sound like Mahks or was that closer to Marx ? Do you pronounce the "r" effect while saying Markus ? How would you best write your names in English based on actual pronunciations ? That will change the way your name is written in Sanskrit. |

Originally posted by Omega_M ![]() Matra is the straight line and the curve on top. It adds the "e" effect to the letter. The fact that it's drawn on the left or right side of a letter identifies whether the "e" sound is short or long. So in the above pic, the basic letter is "la"...the way you would pronounce it is by taking word "love" (lv) and dropping the "v" part of it. That's the "La" and that's the basic letter. Put a matra on the left and you would pronounce it as "li" (short,as in Lira), put it on the right and you pronounce it as "Lee" (long, as in Slylee). The matra can be put on any letter to get this effect. So for a basic letter "ra", you can write "ri" or "ree" and so on. |

| Originally posted by Lira Well, if I were to write my name in English (ignoring the pronunciation of the letter R for a moment) I'd write "Marx Leeruh", even though the "u" in "Marcus" is still there. As for the letter "R" in Marcus, that's the "French/German R"... but you can write that with a sound like the English "h" (as in "happy") too, as it is close enough. Hah, that's interesting ![]() +1... It also seems to fit your personality quite well (at least your internet persona ). How do you write it in Korean, by the way? 태설? |
