If Jerry Bruckheimer produced this.. it would be LAME..

At least a director with credits produced this,,, thats why it was awesome!

Good for Nostalgia, SPFX and the hottie Meagan Fox. Yes the oldschool cartoon/movie WAS cheeze. But we were 5 or 6 and didn't care.

It didn't suck. But could have been better. Than again, our expectations are probably much higher than when we were kids.

I wouldn't say it outright sucked, but it most definitely did not live up to the hype.

Posted by infinity HiGH on Jul-09-2007 21:25:

3 things were good about the movie:

-The scene where the hot chick is checking out bumblebee's engine.
-Optimus cutting the head off of that one Decepticon.
-Starscream's battle with the F-22's. That scene had the potential to be incredible, but it was just good because of how short it was.

Everything else about the movie was average at best. I was never expecting something Oscar-worthy (Michael Bay directed it, afterall) but I was really expecting a much more entertaining and involving movie.

6.5/10

The result? One-fourth of the listening mind is occupied with what is being said, the other 3 quarters is unoccupied, and the devil quickly finds work for an unoccupied mind.
If the listener disagrees with what he is hearing, 75% of his mind busies itself drawing up counter-arguments to what the speaker says, and in turn misses more than half of what is being said.

I like that cuz its true

I saw it for the second time and I think I"ve lightened up a bit on it. This time I sat at the back row and it really made a difference. The action is much more clear as compared to when you sit down in the front two rows at a typical Silver City theatre.

Still though, my original points remain unchanged. LKD has a great point in that the cartoon (and comics if I remember) were pretty cheesey. It's the 1986 movie that was fucking dark as hell and the last season of the cartoon (with the new characters) that had some pretty riske story lines for a kids show. The first two seasons of the cartoon with Optimus, etc were very corny if you go watch them again.

Even though it's a bit of a mixed bag for me, I will still buy this on DVD and occasionally watch the last hour, which I have to admit is pretty damn good action. I still don't like the way that Megatron totally handed Optimus Prime his ass during their very short fight but oh well. I'm definitely going to follow the progress of the sequels and I have to say that I smiled during this movie a lot more than any of the other so-called "blockbuster" movies that came out this year.

I just wish Michael Bay had less control over the story arc than he apparently enjoys. I watched a "making of" thing last night and he SINGLE HANDEDLY picked out the designs for Optimus (the flames are still gay, come on!) and Starscream.

hahaha. My friend whom I saw it with last night is a comp. sci nerd and he blurted out in the theatre during those scenes "what the fuck kind of operating system is that!!??"

ppl who claim it sucked went in with way too high expectations for an action movie based on a cartoons story
also, hard core fans of the original cartoons should just stop over analyzing everything about the movie, cos obviously it doesn't stand up to your expectations

cheesy or not, it was superbly done.

considering they wrote the script, shot the movie and completed the astounding number of totally believable SFX in about 18 months, I'd agree that they did a superb job all things considered. the production value was quite high. I think the people behind the movie (except one of the producers who wanted a more faithful adaptation) made the movie they wanted to make and who can argue with them? It's a huge success already and two sequels have been given the go ahead.

I have to say though that it's not nearly as good as I hoped it would be but in the same breath, it's not nearly as horrible as I feared it would be.

also - I don't think this movie is claiming to be anything more then action movie adapted from the original cartoons, i.e. it is not claiming to have an immensely interesting story line, or amazing character play..

true but I think the original storyline of two factions of robots fighting a civil war that drained their planet of energy so that the near-defeated side (autobots) go in search of new sources and end up on earth, etc, is much less silly than the "allspark".

Plus, given contemporary issues, maybe the fact that the Decepticons wanted to rape our planet of all its resources might hit home with more people? There was potential there for it to be a little more intelligent but again, it's all about money...

so you'd rather prefer a remake of an original story rather then the story of a lost "cube"? fair enough, but I think something like that would only interest fans of original cartoons, where is this adaptation opened a door for a wider audience (i.e. me, I think I vaguely remember seeing 1 episode of the original cartoons)

yes, as a fan of the cartoon I think the original storyline would have come off better and people would have bought it just the same. In the cartoon, the decepitcons came to rape Earth of its plentiful energy sources but for obvious reasons, they rarely ever killed humans. This could have been amped up for the movie, having the Decepticons hell bent on raping Earth and killin everyone, the Autobots come to Earth's defence, etc.

The screenwriters essentially dumbed down an already BASIC story arc. Give me a year or so and I honestly think I could have written a better script but as I"ve said before, blockbusters these days are not not made to tell a good story. That ended a long time ago.

about the change in story....

original storyline goes that the war is goin on back at cybertron and the autobots leave cybertron to replenish fading resources and get tailed by the decepticons...the decepticons then board the arc (autobot ship) and computer goes boom boom and they crash on earth only to be discovered millions of years later...during the first ep, megatron only aims to build his ship and get the hell outta there but realizes theres way too much fuel to be tapped and convereted to energon cubes....decepticons are obviously way smarter than the autobots.. in the end of the initial ministory, mirage brings down the decepticon ship by boarding it during take off and unfortunately the decepticons are stuck back on earth...

what i DO like about the new storyline is that the cube (allspark) is a mysterious source of life and gives somewhat of a better explanation (even tho its fictional) to each robot actually having a personality (or soul). and yes megatron reached thousands of years before the autobots again...always one step ahead....damn megatron
