You got dressed up to go to The Melting Pot?

They have very good food there and are definitely a notch above many restaurants, but it's not exactly a place I would really say dressing up is necessary. Perhaps I am merely an uncouth scallawag.

it was for my birthday and it was 130 bucks for me and my girlfriend.

Its in a nice part of town and this ones pretty upscale. Everyone else was dressed up as well.

I felt a bit out of place wearing jeans a button up shit and a coat

It's not super expensive and upscale, but people tend to dress pretty nicely. Dress shirts and ties were everywhere.

Either that or walking out the front door with wearing pants counts as a good day where you come from

Well that really makes sense then. I've been there three times, but it was all at the same location and all three times I went, I and the person I went with were the only ones there.

So I really don't have a precedent for appropriate Melting Pot attire. :P

I always roll up the sleeves...

I'd have to say: dressed up = Slacks, Button down shirt, Tie, slacks and shirt should be uniform in color and the tie should not be anything to crazy or bland...Belt leather should match the watch, and the shoes...

orbax's picture is a good example.

I almost never wear a tie without a jacket. it feels way too weird.
