So how could Rangers be the better team if they let Zenit play? I agree, it was strange, but it was super one-sided in my opinion, and it needed the first goal to actually wake up Rangers and get them to attack (which they actually did pretty well). They may have actually scored if they had started attacking earlier in the match.

The way Rangers play is always very solid. The first goal hit them hard. To be honest up until then Rangers had the most clear cut chances.

Just holding the ball is not superiority. Zenit were in no way outstanding.

Rangers as a team are well drilled and defined. For the first goal that system broke down and they paid. But really they had a lot of chances to take too.

It was in no way a one sided game. I can't find the stats but I'd reckon shots on target should be pretty close, which is the main thing.

LOL. Rangers are fuckin rotten. Zenit are a far superior team and if rangers did come out to try and match them at playing football you'd have been looking at a cricket score.

Rangers played the only way they know how against half decent opposition and even when they went 1-0 down they couldnt adapt their game. They got what they deserved, in fact no, they got more than they deserved because they should have been knocked out much earlier in the tournament for the rubbish defenceball they've played.

You're a Tim though! This is coming from a don by the way!!!!

I admire the organisation Rangers can display. It's a lot of hard cold hours on the training ground to get like that. They have done well with the funds they have.

Fans angry after big screen fails
Fans leave the streets by Piccadilly Gardens
Fans said the event organisation had been an "absolute shambles"

Thousands of Rangers supporters in Manchester for the Uefa Cup final were left disappointed after a big screen in the city centre broke down.

Bottles and cans were thrown at the police after the screen in Piccadilly Gardens failed.

An estimated 100,000 fans descended on the city to see the match which Zenit St Petersburg eventually won 2-0.

A Russian fan was taken to hospital after being stabbed outside the City of Manchester Stadium before the game.

The man was stabbed in the back but his injuries were reported as non-life threatening.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said six men, all believed to be Rangers fans, had been arrested in connection with the incident.

A force spokesman said 30 people had been arrested in total.

He added: "GMP would like to stress that the vast majority of supporters have behaved impeccably and came to Manchester clearly intent on enjoying the carnival atmosphere."

Hastily-arranged screen

The council had set up three special fan zones with big screens for ticketless fans to watch the match.

Although the TV in Piccadilly Gardens failed, others in Albert Square and Cathedral Gardens did show the game.

However, they were already full and supporters were offered buses to take them to a hastily-arranged screen outside the velodrome at Sports City, near to the City of Manchester Stadium, where the match took place.

Fans who had been waiting in Piccadilly Gardens all day were unimpressed.

One said: "This is absolutely ridiculous - there's Rangers fans throwing balls and cans at each other because the game's not on.

"We've been sat here since 12 o'clock waiting on the game coming on. The coverage started at seven o'clock and then five minutes later the game's off.

"It's an absolute shambles, shame on Manchester, shame on Manchester - it's let the country down."

Another supporter added: "The people of Manchester have been fantastic - but the officials behind this are a total disgrace.

"Some people are really angry. They've spent a lot of money - maybe 4,000 to 5,000 - to come down here for this."

>Link - Screen broke... throw a can...?<

I was exaggerating a bit because nearly the same happened once to me. I fell asleep at the start of that Milan-Juventus Champions League final that ended 0-0. When I woke up, extra time was about to end, and I looked at the score... I didn't know whether to be pissed off for missing the game, or to be happy nothing had happened during my 2 hours of needed rest.

Zenit St Petersburg Rangers
Shots (on Goal) 17(10) 7(3)

So no, not close. Of course, Zenit were not outstanding, which is the most concerning part, because Rangers should have been pushing more then. If Zenit were playing amazingly well and consistently getting clearcut chances, then it would have been business as usual. But Zenit weren't even that great, but at least they did move up. I'm actually surprised that Rangers did get 3 on target in the end.

Oh, and here's the source: Link.
