I'm just saying - Ronaldo has incredible speed - even more so when on the ball - It safe to say Stevie isn't as fast...

look, they are both great players, but both very different players with a different roles, they both have strengths that the other doesn't have, no use in even comparing them.

I agree - useless to compare - I was merely stating who I'd prefer on my team...

as for diving, that shit pisses me off so much, blatant diving/acting is unacceptable, but sometimes going down is justified, my coaches always told me to go down in certain situations to avoid injuries, no point in being stubborn and then coming out with an injury that puts you out for a while.

But it's not just to avoid injuries, if a ref will call it - and it gives you an advantage - why not (i'm playind devils advocate here!)? It's fact that in a lot of countries - diving is taught. It makes complete sense... If you get FK or a PK out of it, you've got an excellent chance to score... And if you've got a boot like that of Ronaldo, you'd probably like to have a go as often as possible... As long as refs in the EPL continue to let diving go, players will continue to dive

You're right, its ultimately the leagues and refs decision making that will control this issue. I used to ref for a few years and at weekly meetings we would discuss diving, and watch videos of certain questionable fouls and see where some refs made good and bad decisions, but a lot of it is in context with the league rules and what the league wants to do about certain issues.

FIFA rules aren't very specific, a lot of calls are judgment calls based on rules in the book, but people interpret those rules differently. also diving is hard to notice sometimes, when i was young i used to mouth off to the refs for a lot of things and used to think, how blind is this guy? but really, the ref can only call what he sees, and from certain views things look totally different then what they actually are.

basically, its part ref part league, if the league were to introduce tape reviewing of every game and fining players that cheat, then it might put a stop to it, or at least minimize it, the ref cant see all the angles to make every call correctly.

that you're the ONLY ONE who doesnt think C.Ronaldo dives??
There's like 5-6 of us saying he DOES dive...
And coincidentally you're the only Portuguese here...

Again, dood, i LOVE the Portuguese aka Pork CHops, and i can understand the bias.
But REALITY has to set in at some point...

And no, Kaka doesnt have 27 goals this season. But he doesnt play for stats.
As a Milan FAN, I'm not even saying Kaka is more talented, coz he's not (notice the reality-check?? Me being objective??)
---> But i'd take Kaka on my team, which he IS, thank God, over Ronaldo anyday.

Almost every player dives at some point in his life. Yes, Ronaldo probably does it more then Kaka, but then Ronaldo also gets fouled a lot more then Kaka does. You have to remember that in the English game skill players like Ronaldo have to deal with far more physical challenges then players in the Italian or Spanish leagues where defenders back off skill players. Does that justify Ronaldo's antics ? No - it doesn't. But when you track his history of diving, you'll realize that he's been diving far less now, then he did 3,4 years ago. Diving it seems is taught to Portugese players at a young age, and it's something that needed to get stamped out by Sir Alex and the coaches at United.

With regards to who is better - There is simply no question about it. Ronaldo is better. He has the stats to prove it. He's done more in all forms of the game in the last year then Kaka or Messi. He's played more games, He's scored more goals. He's provided more assists, and he is playing in a team that is still competing for ALL three major club titles (Domestic cup / League and European Champions League). Kaka on the other hand will be fortunate to play in the Champs league next year. Messi could potentially rival CR7's stats, but unfortunately the man can never go a season without getting injured at least 4-5 times (and most of them are 4-6 week injury layoffs)

For the position that Ronaldo plays, he is undoubedly the best wingers in the world. If he played in the position that Kaka does, he would probably score even more goals.

Finally...Kaka doesn't play for stats...hmmm right of course not, he probably plays for Jebus and the Virgin Mary but tell me - does he play for titles right? Lets see how many titles he will win with Milan this year. Something tells me it won't be nearly as much as Ronaldo wins.

and sadly, even though Ronaldo has been a superior player to Kaka, he will still lose to the Brazilian. UEFA has a bias against English based players which is why either Kaka, or Messi, or someone else with lesser numbers will win the award. Even though it rightfully belongs to CR7.

They're good, but if they draw an English team in the next round they're done for. Arsenal, Chelsea, Man U, AND Liverpool could probably all out play them. Roma will, however, put up a hard fight.

Posted by denigade on Mar-08-2008 16:09:

stats my ass. I hate stats. Maybe i'm a bit naive but I don't think players play for stats, maybe some do but i hope most don't. What happened with just playing and contributing to your team?
Ronaldo is very impressive, and he does contribute so much to his team, but just the way he runs and the way he moves the ball is sometimes annoying, he's a little frantic at times. I still love watching him though, he's getting smarter and ya he is diving less, thats a big plus.

Now look at Kaka, hes so elegant, he plays with finesse, he makes a lot of smart simple moves and passes. The other day during the milan-arsenal game Kaka made a sweet run on the left wing from his half and then so precisely crossed it in to Pato, but it was one of those perfectly calculated passes that didn't have too much force, but enough to elude defenders and yet make it controllable for Pato, but then Pato kindly passed the ball to the goalie, lol. That run and pass totally impressed me, and just the little things he does to control the ball or the little passes he makes, or how he places his body when opponents are around. The body position is the reason why he gets by players and makes it look so easy, he blocks access to that ball!

Now Messi, lol, fuk awards, this guy doesn't need them. I've never seen anyone get out of such a tight situation. Hes so dynamic as well, he can charge at defenders and make them look like pylons as he changes direction so fast, his touch is sooo good, he has great vision and for being a small player he is pretty tough, i always see him getting raped by bigger plays but he still keeps a hold of the ball. His quickness makes him vulnerable though, so injuries are always going to be a problem.

and last, VUCINIC!! lol, a player nobody talks about but i like the way he plays.

true that especially since today's game was in Rome and there's no way they will beat Man U @ home the next game.

Ronaldo and Rooney are on fire right now playing amazing together.
