Halo is a great example of what good marketing is.
RJT puts it extremely well: it's for the lowest common denominator (I think you stole that from me...). People who just started playing video games when it became the cool thing to do (last gen). This game does nothing revolutionary or evolutionary to the shooter genre yet there's actual gimps that believe this game (or series) is the be-all, end-all series of video gaming.
In reality, it's an 8/10 at best
Its a very stupid game... the first one. I had more fun playing doom2 or castle wolfenstien, thats for sure.
Why do people like to play it is beyond me, have they not touched a computer game before xbox came out?
Is it to hard for you guys to understand that maybe people just like playing on a console more? Get over yourselves

| look mate, you're wrong. it IS the same type of game, as i tried to explain to you. the fact that you think its hard to classify shows a sincere lack of understanding or experience. its a DM game, just slow and shit. |

| you fucking tool. any decent quake player would rape any halo player any day of the week. dont parade your ignorance. halo is a fanboy game, pure and simple. had it been a PC title it would have failed simply coz we have many better shooters already available. |

I'd rather be a tool than a fanboy mate. I accept that you like other things. I even accept your blind loyalty to them. |

(Yeah, I said blind. I've played these games and maybe ten years ago they stood up to your arcaic views and dumb divisions between the two different types of games.) You however, spit at anyone who dare's claim their favourite game defeats yours. You are the true fanboy. |
cos it just aint true, but please, humour me

| look, if you cant follow the argument then i try to repeat myself in a different way so cretins can follow what im saying. please, feel free to question me about the particular facets of FPS gaming that halo shares with older and better games. especially if my original statements are lacking a concise description. |

| first off, i would LOVE to hear your justication for your continued presumption that halo and the other unrealistic alien fragging games are somehow particularly different cos it just aint true, but please, humour me |
lol.

That my sex face
That picture was apparently taken at a Chicago GameStop.
Midwest Halo gimps FTW, I guess.
^ Hahahha holy crap!
So I walk into EB today pick up some classics, and the store is full of boxes everyone looks pissed so I go and talk to my manager. For some reason they sent us so much shit merchandise for this joke of a franchise. I look through the boxes fuck magnets, medal replicas, key chains, shirts not to mention all these shit figurines( not to even mention how grossly overpriced they were). I stand in awe and yell out what "lame ass fucking nerd would buy this shit!!" My manager starts laughing so I turn around there is some dwit that looks exactly like that kid in the picture and it looks like he is about to cry lulz.
edit: If someone chopped a Search for Sunrise cd in that kids hand I wouldnt be able to tell the difference.
A Master Chief action figure would be pretty sweet. How much was it and do YOU work at an EB?

took it as a side job for the discount work like 5 hours a week lol.
Oh that's lame, I wouldn't spend more than 10 bucks on one
Yeah I have a weird action figure collection. Not many people have an action figure of a space marine from Quake 3

| Originally posted by pkcRAISTLIN oh yeah sorry. my mistake. that's why the extreme "tactical" nature of this shooter had deathmatch and team deathmatch as 50% of its multiplayer modes (at least, memory is a bit foggy). tactical shooter don't give the games airs it doesn't deserve. halo is an unrealistic shooter played in a deathmatch fashion, circle strafing included. so a comparison to any other unrealistic shooter where you circle strafe aliens is a completely valid point. |

| Originally posted by The Arbiter Let me explain it to you, seeying as games being different from eachother is obviously such a wacky idea. Halo and Quake don't play the same. Infact, they play so differently and the concept behind them so different that they arnt even the same class of game besides the generalisation of an FPS. Them simply being FPS games does not make them the same type of game. If I was to go a step further to iterate my point I could ask you why Quake and Rainbowsix are the same. Obviously they arnt in the same way Halo isnt the same type of game. It's another type of game, incomparable thanks to the completely different game dynamics. This is at the very core of difference between games and refusing to acknowledge it doenst make it false. |

I come from the Doom age, which is sufficient experience. I've been Hardcore right from the start and competitive gaming is in the very essence of my existance. Dont make the mistake of assuming I have no knowledge or that I dont know my shit, especially when it comes to PC games. I know what your talking about, but fact is I dont agree withit on any level. |

| so we have, deathmatch, team deathmatch and capture the flag. ooh! tactical |

| yes, rainbow six and quake are certainly different. but no, halo and the other unrealistic shooters really are not, for reasons i have posted again ^^. having played my fair share of multiplayer halo i contend that it plays exactly the same as the others of its ilk, just much worse, slow, less skillful and boring. rainbow six et al is also very slow, but hardly boring because of its more lethal dynamic. again, im not calling them the same simply because theyre both FPSs- that would be silly |

I've said a game being slower isnt the only different dynamic. The weapons system is completeley different, the damagae/health system is completely different and the only similarity is multiplayer map design and even than, only the smaller maps. Not even mentioning vehichles and grenades.
