Awesome retort. You really got me with that one. Witty, sharp, quick off the mark - MADE ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE AT ALL.

You win the argument.

In what way? What's your routine? I've been having problems with my upper quad muscles for quite some time. This 'knock' has been the icing on the cake for me. I need to start strengthening them.

The core of my leg routine is squats. I really feel that this is the best exercise hands down for your lower body, and you could even carry that over to your entire body. These can also be done a variety of ways and by no means do these have to be weighted. I utilize these three the most:

Weighted barbell squats - like the picture below but, not as deep; i only go so my thighs are parallel to the ground
Unweighted deep squats - like the picture below but, without weights

Unweighted sissy squats - The great thing about these is that you can assist yourself and it allows to put as much or as little pressure on the knee as you want. And that's important because the angle of your body is placing more stress toward the lower part of your quadriceps right near your knee

I also do leg curls specifically for my hamstrings and leg extensions for my quadriceps. These are nice but, I feel like the real gains come from above and below.

One last thing that has really helped my leg strength and is often overlooked, is sprints. It actually took me a while to build up to being able to do these effectively because it is pretty intense but the leg strength I have gained from it has been enormous. I usually do a series of ten sprints, full-out, the length of the basketball court. I take 3 steps, sprint full-out and then have to stop myself before I slam into the wall lol. The stopping part is just as beneficial as the sprinting part. I found that, even when I'm playing basketball, I hardly ever full-out sprint and was amazed to find out how much more of your legs it requires. The combination of your full stride stretch and then a maximum contraction as you push with full force is an amazing workout. It's also a hell of a workout for your heart.

EDIT:

DISCLAIMER: I am not a licensed trainer and I am not reccomending that anyone do the above exercises. I am only sharing my personal experiences. Should you choose to perform the above listed actions, you do so at your own risk!

You're in such a denial.

Yeah, that must be it. Good thing I can always count on complete strangers to tell me what's wrong with me.

One thing's certain and anyone can tell you that...
You're trying to cure your frustrations by being a total asshole to 99% of people on forum, probably because you're too weak to do so in real life.
Tell me, how come no one else (beside you and Mikey Mike) has the same urge?

Actually I act like an asshole for a living. This is me relaxing.

Actually, this depends. I blew out my knee (dislocation, partial tear of MCL, sprain of ACL, tear of patellar tendon), and for the longest time I wasn't allowed to do any squats - the fastest way to strengthen the quadriceps, which is most important for tendon strength in the knee, is to do leg extensions. I had to do them day and night for my rehab routine. Of course you have to supplement those with leg curls so that you don't overdevelop your quads compared to your hamstrings, because that's the number one danger factor for hamstring pulls which are rather nasty themselves.

But yeah, I wouldn't underestimate the good you can do just by doing simple curls and extensions. My rehab specialist told me it was the best thing I could do for my knee. Now I can finally squat again, but I'm not allowed to go all the way to 50% because of a danger that I'll blow out the knee again, so I'm stuck doing box squats which aren't nearly as helpful. So if you have a chronic knee problem, just be careful squatting heavily.

Power cleans can be a great substitute too.

i like dj mikeymike and mr. mystery because i do think they are witty and sharp and while you choose to think they are being 'assholes' i think it's funny. I've been on the recieving end before and i still laugh because it's the internets.. you can't take it seriously. if i were as quick as these two maybe i'd be more of an asshole too, who knows.

I agree with you in regards to rehabbing an injured knee. My post was more for maintaining and increasing leg strength for athletic performance.

In fact, I always fail to do this when I talk fitness on the intarwebs - I am going to go back and add a disclaimer.

I do agree both of them seem smart and all, but that kind of attitude is simply not necessary... I too find it funny from time to time and I'm by no means offended by it, but they're really overdoing it. What's the point of coming to a forum if you're going to be cocky all the time and do nothing but insult? It's not normal, otherwise everyone would do it.

Cheers. What are 'leg curls' though?
