heh heh, good point. Publicity is good when the person is a carwreck anyways, or for when you like to see how he/she responds to a public media flogging - the underdog appeal if you will.

But with these two, it's gonna hurt their credibility, especially if their dj skills were average at best to begin with (cough, dj Dan, cough). There are just too many decent djs waiting in the wings that will get those PR votes (and yes, djmag is about PR).

I'm bumping this thread next year and we'll see how its hurt their "bookings"...

WOW. Someone takes The DJ Mag poll a little too seriously, hah. Whatever fishy stuff happened in the poll doesn't in any way take away from their ability to put on a good set (and after hearing CL in KH, he can definitely throw down a good set), so there's no reason they should be banned from any events. What sort of regulatory body would do the banning anyway? The World Association of Honest DJs and Promoters?

hmmmmmm I wonder who else he knows that has bene cheating

Posted by TranceGrooves on Oct-10-2007 17:16:

I am sort of curious to know, how did this Manager character knew how many votes to cast via script to have CL and Dan on 4 and 5 spot respectively. I mean Dj Mag does not disclose how many votes each Dj gets until after the result is announced. So by using a script like they say, how did this manager knew that X number of votes will get CL the 4th spot. Why not the 1st spot or 2nd or 3rd?? If he thought that may raise qustions in mind of other people then again how the bloddy hell did he knew how many votes to cast so they get 4th or 5th spot.

Hmmm ???

Markus was dead on back in Sept 2006

There are a lot of issues around the rankings. DJ Mag is the authority, thedjlist.com. What do you think of the industry ranking the actual artists so much?

Let me be perfectly clear about this. I think it's a good thing because it gives everybody a voice. It doesn't matter if you are in a little town in the middle of Nebraska or if you're an experienced clubber in London or New York City. Your opinions matter. Back in the day DJs would just go and do a crappy job in some city where they just didn't want to be at, or they just weren't feeling it and they would be, "Whatever. I wish this night would end." Now you have to be on top of your game. Every time you go somewhere, you can't put on a lame show. It doesn't matter if you're in London, New York, at a festival. You have to bring you're A-game. So in that sense the polls have kind of given everybody a voice and made the DJs take it seriously. But I think what has happened lately is the spirit of the polls is being manipulated with a lot of people cheating and I think that's where it's going wrong. Sure, everybody has their parents vote, or tells their buddies to vote, or everybody votes from their Hotmail account and then from their normal email account, everybody does that. That's no big deal. But when you hire a company to pad the votes for you and you vote thousands of times, then what you're doing is screwing the fans. That's not legit and I don't know how some of these people can look at themselves in the mirror. I don't know how some of these people are up on stage and not feel that they are there for the wrong reasons. They are there because they cheated. For me it's about integrity and about making the fans happy, and making a difference in people's lives. I was put on this planet to make people happy through my music. I can't do anything else. To me it's a good thing but shame on the people who have cheated, and I really hope that the people who are doing these polls really put forth the extra effort to make sure that they are safeguarding against these things. Like I said, shame on the DJs that cheat and how can you stand on stage and look out at the audience and feel confident.

I don't know about most people, but this crap makes me want to see them less, not more. Integrity matters. Or at least it should, shouldn't it?

Regardless, you may be right. Are you predicting a back-to-back with Lawler in the coming months? lol

hm i follow both of these djs.. what has christopher lawrence and dj dan done so spectacular in the year 2006 or 2007? Have you heard any of cl's latest releases? probably not because there hasnt been anything but a mixed cd in the last 2 years.. how about any ridiculous memorable events in the last 2 years that cl's played? can you name any?,, any idt events? anything at all.. actually whens the last time chris was on a huge bill.. i think guys like menno de jong compared to cl are on a whole level cl isnt anywhere near and cl slowed down years ago...just because i liked a dj at a rave 3 years ago doesnt mean he deserves to be 4th on a djmag poll.. i dont get why you get so uptight because i say he sucks.. sorry to offend anybody but its my own opinion that christopher lawrence sucks until he starts producing some new music and stop playing 2-3 year old tracks in his sets..
sorry :/

My guess is that he didn't. He just got an estimate based on size of the poll in the previous year, and an estimate of the perspective growth.

I bet, he was not trying to place them that high, so that they would not cause suspicion, but it just worked out that way.

No where in the literature does it state that the manager specifically entered enough votes for them to be exactly 4th and 5th. We do not have that sort of info on hand, yet.

Though I can see some people would go see CL or DJ Dan now just for the curiousity factor to judge whether they suck or not for themselves.

Posted by TheVrk on Oct-10-2007 19:41:

I'm just glad DJ Mag had the balls to come out with this, even tho it is and has been obvious.

Objectively speaking, theres just no way CL and DJ Dan receive more votes than the others in the Top 10 or 20 for that matter...

it's unclear from the article if the marketing manager was alone in this or if the Dj's actually were aware of anything

I agree though, that the poll has been increasingly becoming a complete farce

+1

CL is a great DJ IMO.

Just how big is CL in the states?

Considering that he doesn't really play the fluffy trance that appeals to armin and tiesto fan clubs

LMAO ..... my friend it will really help if you did some research about what you type here

In last 2 years CL has had 3 tracks and 2 CD releases. Currently he is working on Tracks with Joof and is also starting to tour with Joof. As of recent check out his Atlanta gig coming up. In addition CL has played Love Fest WMC DV Burning Man and many other HUGE events. He is also been hand picked by Ferry Corsten to play his event in Holland this year. Your opinion is your opinion ... no body is telling you to stop saying what you wanna say but dont get all hyper if we have a opinion about your opinion.

As for him playing tracks that are 2-3 years old??? again you dont have to go far ... visit the TL forum and then check out beatport and see what tracks were released when CL has been in TO atleast 4 or 5 times in past 2 years and each time he has put on a solid performance. you can do a search of the reviews from his parties

CL is HUGE in states. Much bigger fan base than in Canada ofcourse and he is even bigger in Australia. explains why he has moved down there

I went to the last gig CL had in Toronto, which I believe was last summer in guv, and I don't have anything negative to say about it
I haven't heard much of Dj Dan (then again I wasn't referring to him in my previous comments), but from what I heard he plays solid sets every time he's in town

from everything you've listed (not playing at any spectacular events, not releasing mad amounts of stuff etc) hardly puts him in a "he sucks" category... just because he doesn't play at big events here or in the states, or events that are publicized enough for us to know about, or whatnot, doesn't mean he just suddenly became a worse Dj

I didn't mean to jump on you or anything, all opinions matter, but just your initial post came across as a little arrogant

he sucks cuz he plays trance...DUH!

Posted by Dark_Archonis on Oct-10-2007 20:42:

hahahahahahaha.

Although I have nothing in particular against Lawrence or DJ Dan, this bit of news definitely deserves a good laugh. Getting disqualified from that joke of a poll? Talk about a low point.

This also explains A LOT as to why I would always see obscure DJs I've never heard of in the Top 20.
