to come;
DJ mag´s top cheaters list, as a way of trying to save face, by publicizing the circus they have created.
Sort of like when you do something really embarrassing and try to laugh it off with everyone else, but no matter how much you try to be cool about it they think you are lame.

the reality is guys the dj mag poll does matter. i'm sorry, i understand the movement and the thought process to discredit such a stupid idea for a poll and to rank something so objective but people love it... ESPECIALLY marketing people.
imagine being the p.r. person to the #1 DJ in the world... what an easy selling point that is.
and unfortunatly everyone in the business depends on the marketability of DJ's... 'Come to Pacha this week and see the #3 DJ in the world.'
it will only get bigger (and that's proven, 325,000 votes this year - holy cow) so you can keep fighting it but it will always be there and until you get past all the enormous amount of $$ these DJ's and agencies spend on marketing will the MUSIC side of the music BUSINESS emerge.
anyways to the people that matter, this discredit to DJ Dan and CL does matter.
No one is saying the list doesn't 'matter from a purely marketing point of view (in fact I've said it in this very thread, many, many times), but it's hardly a list of the top 100 DJ's in the world, and as such, DJ Mag's being upset at CL and Dan is absolutely unwarranted, because no one other than DJ Mag can be blamed for creating a system which essentially invited exploitation.
Show of hands - how many of you actually think this is going to affect Dan and CL's careers in some profound sense for years to come?

well, i think the point that people want to make is that it is sad that dance music be reduced to the whims of marketing people, and that number 3 deejay has to be number three deejay rather than John van Smith with a unique musical presence that should be all the marketing he needs. Marketing implies a product is being sold, and products being sold implies consumption.
The culture of consumption and a productive, positive, progressive culture are at odds with one another.
The magazine is a joke because it shouldn´t be about marketing in the first place, but rather substance.
I grew up as the son of a graphic designer and advertising account executive and I do my own freelance advertising and design, so I am extremely suspicious and cynical about marketing. It´s nearly always bullshit.
All this hype, fiction, copywriting, the language of the design, the faces, the poses, the haircuts, everything is all bullshit.

I remember when people were getting their panites in a bunch when somebody questioned Dj Dan's standing.
