My mom made me start doing laundry at 12, since apparently I used to change my outfit 3 times a day and throw all the clothes in the laundry after wearing them for only 2 hours

I moved out just before I turned 19 for 6 months, moved back home for a year, found an apartment and a roommate at 20, then bought my condo a year later and haven't been home since.

I don't think I could manage living at home after being out for so long on my own, unless I REALLY had to.

I don't ask my her to make my bed. I'm one of those people who don't see the point in making the bed, but my mother is very particular and a neat freak so she'll make it everyday.

Not to mention she makes lunch for myself and my father for work lol

She is a homemaker though so lots of it she is already doing anyways.

My house is pretty big so I only really see my parents when I eat dinner with them and barely see them on the weekends as I usually live at during the nights :P

And yes, I have a GF of 3 years. She stays over at my place on the weekends or I stay over at hers. There haven't been any issues yet.

Mind you, I've only been living at home for 4 months now since school. There haven't been any issues yet in those 4 months but who knows whats going to happen.

PS. I just turned 22. I know its not that young, but at least I'm not like 30 or something haha

Well, I am 22, and I live with my mother. When I was in the States, I lived in the dorms my freshman year, then I lived with my sister my sophmore year, then with my ex-bf for a year, and then by myself for a year, and then I lived with two amazing roomates for little less thans year even though I spent most of the time at my ex man's house. When I moved to Canada, me and my mom bought a condo together, so it works out pretty well cause she works evenings, and I work days, so I only get to see her on weekends, but I am out most of the time anyway. I give her money, which could be counted as rent, but I think she pays mortgage and buys groceries with it. And, I still get to buy anything I pretty much want, since if I rented my own place, I would have payed way more. I think it depends on indivudual situation. I could get my own place, but my mom doesn't really have anyone else here in Canada, so I'd rather be with her..:P

I think I was trying to say that I don't know too many girls that would give me the time of day if they knew I let my mom still make my bed. Sounds like you guys hit the jackpot! lol

LOL, I wish my mom would do it. I cook my own food and clean my own room. She might mix our landry together to save electricity, but that's about it. We actually have a funny agreement...lol...She hems and irons my clothes, or shines my shoes for $. Usually it's $5 to hem and iron my black work pants, and $3 to shine my shoes...I know it's fucked up kinda, but she makes good money off me, since I don't have time to do it at 6 am...bahahha

I understand what your saying, but I've grown up like that and its not really out of the norm for me.

Right now i'm on my own :S My parents went on holidays day for 2 weeks to Hawaii (bastards) so its me and my sister right now looking after the house. I'm capable of doing everything on my own, but why not take it while I can?

Well, with me it worked for the longest time because of a long-distance relationship. When she visited here or I visited there, we'd rent a place together for the short-term, or she stayed with me in my basement flat, depending on our mood at the time.

Now, I'm not sure what I'm going to do! lol. I think I will be getting my own place soon. At the same time, I would only want to date a girl who also has strong family values, so she would have to understand my family situation.

lol that's cool. I don't pay my Mom per transaction, but I always up my monthly contribution to expenses when I know she's done a lot "extra" for me that month.

Geez, writing about paying my Mom makes me feel so guilty right now!!! Big hug for Mommy when I get home tonight.

Thats an interesting concept.

I pay $600 a month. $500 for Rent and $100 for utilites (My Phone & TV).

From that $500 in rent, it ends up goign to purchase stock options where my father works as he gets a great deal lol.

In a few years hopefully I will get a nice return on those options. Worse case I don't exercise the options and get all of the money + accrued interest back.

LOL I do both contribution and per transaction...lol But she is the one who started it as a joke, but it worked out well for both of us. I mean I can do those things too, but Id rather watch TV or chat on msn then hem my clothes lol

And, in terms of relationships...My mom wouldn't mind if I bring someone home, but only if it's a serious relationship, since neither of us want to bring strangers home. I don't think I will let the guy stay over though, since I would feel akward, I'd rather go to his place and he better live alone or with roomies. But, I have been single since I moved to Canada, so it hasn't really been an issue

Guess I've been off the board for a while so I missed how often this subject has been coming up lately. I was just wondering why you were curious about it, and obviously you are looking for reasons why people still live at home, if they do.

Then things like age, money, and family issues come up, and these are obvious things (in my opinion) so I was thinking there was a little more to it...only because I respect the fact that you're pretty knowledgeable.

Live on my own with two fashion design girlies.... lets just say they make my life 'interesting'

I don't deal with authority very well, had to leave my rents at a young age.... Although, glad I did because it has made us WAY closer

Well, sounds kinda judgemental on your part, but it's an online communication, so I won't take it at face value. I do agree with you that living alone really makes your more independent, practical, flexible, bla bla bla, but not everyone lives at home because they are bums or lazy, it has to do a lot with culture as well, and as fayraree said - it has to do a lot with family values, too.

yep same here.

For the relationship stuff, mine is long-distance and I find it much more enjoyable to take off over there anyways so that isn't even an issue.

Being back at home is an interim solution, there was no point paying rent month to month for 7 months knowing full-well that I am moving abroad come May, what's the point? I'd rather keep the money in the bank for when I move. I have the entire basement to myself and we are all on such different schedules that I think I see them maybe twice a week at most for more than 5 minutes.

To move home permanently, I think I would have a very difficult time doing. I would agree that it is very hard to go back on those terms once you have been out for so long.

Ya, it can be unnappealing, not exactly a turn on lol, but again depends on the person, I think, and the girl, of course.

I prolly wouldn't wanna know if a guy's mom that I dated still lived with his parents without a good reason and his mom made his bed. No offence to anyone
