I've not been to the Middle East yet, but from what I have seen and read, I would liken their social structure to that of fundamentalist Christian sects in America. Yeah, I said "sects". Get over it.

the difference being the separation of church and state (in theory at least). the fundamentalist christians don't (as much as they'd like to) hold power over the entire country.

saudi arabia (and other countries with antiquated religious laws) is a fucking disgrace.

yes, but mine are a tad more unconventional than the two common fantasies i listed. personally, i prefer the one where i meet a guy on an internet forum, start talking/flirting via MSN and e-mail, and arrange to "meet" in a restroom at an IHOP restaurant.

what can i say... pancakes and rape are two great tastes that taste great together.

Wait... you mean you had had the fantasy beforehand? That makes my rape far less rapely

it doesn't make the pancakes any less delicious.

Shes lucky. Often the punishment for getting raped is stoning.

Yes hardcore Islamic law is a joke.

hardcore islamic countries are fucking retarded. another reason why religion is bullshit and primitive. the punishment for rape should be death or life in jail.

If they want rights, then they'll fight for it. Until then, Saudis have no excuse for when they are oppressed...

Yeah, because revolutions are quick, easy, and innocent people never get hurt.

exactly. that was nonsense krypton.

Posted by Krypton on Nov-16-2007 03:23:

Are you guys assuming the word "fight" means a violent revolution?

There are many ways to fight for human rights. And rights have ALWAYS been fought for, politically AND sometimes violently..

Point is, freedom ain't free..

tell me how a woman is meant to fight for anything in a system that treats her like a piece of property?

Speaking from an American history perspective, women weren't allowed to vote until 1920. The same way they fought for their rights back then, that's how they would do it. Demonstrate and protest.

I really don't know what you're trying to argue here. My only point was they will never have the rights we enjoy here in the west until they fight for it, SOMEHOW. I think you're just arguing this for the sake of arguing. When has a government ever freely and without obligation given its citizens rights, out of the kindness of their hearts? NEVER.

terrible comparison. the two state of affairs couldn't be more different.

im arguing that your previous post about having no one to blame but themselves shows a fundamental lack of understanding regarding the status of women in the country.

if a woman is not allowed out of the house alone, how the fuck are they meant to organise any type of political resistance? the women in america had a constitution, a properly elected president, and two houses of parliament to hear their claims.

the women in saudi have a court that punishes them for being raped. you do the math.

'Reality' is the sake for which the self-righteous take as dogma and try to shove down the throats of those who won't "believe". Careful where you point all that patriotism.

What you are asking for is mass suicide. Even if the citizens of Saudi Arabia, male or female, disagreed with their government's human rights policies, how would they go about staging a coup? Maybe arm themselves illegally, organize in secret and wear masks to protect their identities and, subsequently, their families? Wage guerilla warfare against one of the most powerful oil giants in the world? Wage a private revolution against one of the United States' largest oil suppliers? Yeah. that wouldn't get any attention. Revolutionaries wouldn't be marked as terrorists. their families would not be lined up in the streets and shot, innocent people in trains, buses, cars and streets wouldn't be hurt in the process and in the end, they would surely defeat the IDEA of Islamic Law in a society that is inherently religious. You can sit in safety, thousands of miles away, and judge the unwillingness of individuals to toss themselves into a meat grinder all you want, but just because you're all sorts of high and indoctrinated to worship 'freedom' doesn't mean that you are free by any means.

Do not think that I am all that ignorant to the cost and the reward for revolution; for change. There is always a price to pay. but the decision of sacrifice is not one to be taken lightly and most certainly should not be made by you or I, for that matter.
