skytribe, thanks for the compliment. I used Reason 2.5...the bassline and the weird trance lead are using the Subtractor synth's INIT PATCH and I just tweaked the knobs to get that sound. I then used the RV7000 to get the delay/reverb, exported the file and compressed a little bit in Cubase SX using the Classic Master Limiter...you know...to raise the volume a little bit since Reason screws the sound quality and volume when exporting. I like my hardware synbths better but they're all unplugged so I had to use my laptop with Reason to do the quick basslines

I would really like to know more on the bassline koz i totally sux at that. and I tried tweaking the bassline and I just cant get the define sound like yours on the second bassline you posted.

how about making basslines like probspot-foreplay and blueberry or depeche mode - only when i lose myself (lexicon ave rmx). basically like deep sounding prog/prog trance basslines. like i know how to do them with the keyboard and stuff but actually making a sick sounding bassline is the hard part? any takers?

btw i use fruity and vST's and not reason..

Posted by RiCo on Apr-26-2004 03:24:

Ouch, I don't know how to do it in bassline diagram..it's pretty easy, though. It's like dadadada dada

Somebody figure it out in bassline diagram...I've never done it like that.

K---K---K---K--
bbbb-bb--bbbb-bb THIS IS FOUR BEATS

In dada mode, hehe , should be like this:
K-------K----
dadadada dada THIS IS JUST TWO BEATS...you get the picture.

Yes.

But do you need help with the bassline or making a good patch? I haven't used FL in over a year, so I would have to find it, install it and play with it to make a good patch. Is that what you need?

I've got tons, and tweak as necessary. It's the exact bassline (the one with the melody over it) that I loved I've been playing with the pattern you posted, and gotten something pretty cool sounding.

Posted by RiCo on Apr-26-2004 04:18:

SWEET!

Post an audio sample when you're done with it.

Posted by skytribe on Apr-26-2004 06:13:

Righto. File is attached. Sorry about the poor quality, but I don't have any webspace available.

For trainspotters, it's Albino, using the In Harm's Way bass preset as a template, and then quite a lot of tweaking afterwards (from 1 oscillator to 4, amongst other things), and run through fruity delay 2 (more for the low end; it still needs some work there), and SF MultiTap delay (more for the high end; it gives me the spread I want).

And yes, I know how much work it still needs

Posted by skytribe on Apr-26-2004 06:16:

...or not. I attached a file using the little box, but I don't see it anywhere.

Posted by Mr.Mystery on Apr-26-2004 11:04:

You can't attach files here, you have to get your own webspace for the samples.

But will seek help once i done it

RiCo- I had tried the pattern that given by you. But, how can i actually get the bassline to be define? I mean something like the sound of Holding Onto Nothing? Mine is kinda weak and I roll off around 200Hz to let the Kick compensate. Any guidance? Im using Reason Subtractor. I just cant simply get the nice bassline sound out.

Need guidance if any. Thanks

Posted by SgtFoo on Apr-28-2004 02:15:

just to mention... a 200Hz rolloff is far too much.... the kick does NOT need that much room.

Posted by RiCo on Apr-28-2004 05:08:

Open a Subtractor, lower the cutoff to your liking and apply delay to your liking. By messing with the delay, you'll get different sounding basslines. Try shuffling also...gives an interesting effect.

Posted by josh on Apr-28-2004 05:40:

Thanks RiCo and Sgt Foo. I keep that in mind and mess around with it... Thanks

Here's one I made at work during lunchtime. I downloaded the demo of FL Studio 4.5, Superwave P8, some 909 samples and I put it together really quick and exported it, since you can't save in FL Studio Demo.

It's nice, eh?

hey, my favourite ever bassline is: Perpetual Motion - We're All Here Together (Andy Manstons Dub Mix) if anyone knows how to recreate that one. id b most gratefull

Posted by RiCo on Apr-29-2004 22:23:

Can you post a sample of it, that way we can hear and recreate it?

Posted by josh on Apr-30-2004 02:09:

RiCo- I had did the bassline. But however, it seem like theres a pitching sounding on my bassline which sound alittle off and weirdo when my syth came in. I using reason. Do you or others had any ideas how can I get the 'pitching sounding' off from my bassline. Or rather should I change the note. It was one Octave Down and Up. It seem like its the Up Octave giving me a pitching weird sounding.

Thanks
