theres a time for holdin' awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwn
That was the most crowded I've ever seen it. Definitely a "sardine can." I nearly knocked some heads in, but had to remember it wasn't one of my metal shows and had to remember pushing may be frowned upon.
Anyways, to review the actual set. Brett Mauro was alright. Still can't get into all that house. Couldn't believe Paul didn't come on until 1. PVD was good, but not great. I certainly didn't think it was the most boring ever, but honestly was a little disappointed. Didn't match last years show for sure. I think Scott may be right, it seems like he's kind of dumbed down his music to appease more people. After hearing Not Exactly and then Anthem, I lost a lot of hope.
Here's the songs I remember hearing:
PVD- Another Way, Let Go, Crush, Time of Our Lives
Martin Roth- Off the World-not sure of remix
Of course anthem and not exactly. That's what I remember now. I;m sure I'll think of more later. Maybe some others can come up with some. Good set, but not the best. A bad set from him though is still better than many others.
Sam, it was good meeting you last night. I got to admit you are right. The scene sucks. What's up with all the jackasses showing up to these things? I can understand it being crowded, but these people acted like they didn't care if they bumped into people or not. I seriously was getting pissed and gave a couple people a light push. Don't get excited yet though. I'm not giving up on trance, I just hate how the jerks always show up to these things. But to conclude, I enjoyed the night, but it wasn't as epic as I hoped.
After that post, I have a little more faith in you mug.
good to meet you as well.

| Originally posted by iammesol That was more packed than Carl Cox. Brett Mauro played freaking awesome until about 12:15, then seemed to be playing filler tracks thinking "wtf, where is paul?". PvD came on about 1am, and played the most boring set I've ever heard a DJ play. I described it like McDonalds... consistently dependable music, yet incredibly cheap and dry. Oh, and Opera is the first club I've ever been to where they "don't have" tap water. Wow. |
the show was way too short. i dont know the reason for it, but PVD only played for 1 hr 30 mins to 1 hour 45 mins. i am guessing he was delayed getting to the venue because the dj before him was playing what seemed like filler tracks. i hope liquified did not have in the contract that he would go on at 1pm. im pretty disappointed that i paid 40 to go see this. i know people involved with liquified read this, can you answer what happened? i hope you guys are not turning into some promoters i have seen in the past, market the hell out of the night and how great it will be to see x dj or x artist, and then the dj and artist barely plays at all

He's number one. DJ Mag said so!
A kid I met last night is getting into DJing recently, and informed me he buys his music from DJ Mag. I was like, "IS THAT EVEN A STORE
"
Yo, i can from Canada to see this show.
Disappointed to see PVD only spin for 1 and half hours , but it was pretty good.
GOT to hear FOR AN ANGEL.. all time favorite..
NOt sure how i feel about the crowd though... But over all had a good time

OK first things first...
The set was mediocre. PVD used to be fucking badass, and now every set for the past few years has been drab. Yes, it was actually good, don't get me wrong, but if someone was expecting a night of their life for $40 + fees, they didn't get it.
Now... for all of you hating Opera and the crowd, I have to put my foot down. I've been to WMC in Miami, I've been to the Love Parade in Berlin, and a shit ton of shows in Atlanta since '99. Please, don't become grumpy old people. The crowd was just like any place where there were tons of people packed into a small space. If you wanted to dance, there were places, just not in the center. If you wanted cheap drinks, don't go to clubs like that, or at least don't expect it on a night like that. For christ's sake don't get mad that people bump into you. That's just the way this shit goes down.
I was disappointed about the other night, but just because of the music. As an "old" person (I'm 26) I think the best events have come and gone for this type of shit, but I can only imagine that for some people it was an amazing night and they didn't give a f**k about no free tap water; you go to the sink for free tap water like any other person wanting free water, you pay for drinks at a bar like any club patron, you get bumped into by any person at a sardine-packed arena, and you have an amazing time because of the people you're with, the loud music, and the recklessness of youth.

| Originally posted by PVDfan07 I agree with you on the set. It was good, not amazing. I do have a problem with your assesment of the place though. I certainly understand that places will get crowded especially for a dj this big. I also would understand someone accidently bumping me as they passed or bumping me and then realizing they need to watch it. The problem is that the same people kept knocking into me and didn't have the courtesy to step off me. I had a guy, who had plenty of room around him, practically leaning on me until I finally gave him a push. I also had a girl who kept swinging her arms like a fool and she kept hitting me. You'd think after hitting me once, she'd realize maybe she should watch it, but no. I understand some people like to dance and that's fine. The bottom line is, if you don't have room to do your crazy arm swinging dances without hitting people while you're doing it, either go somewhere else or stop. Respect the people around you is all I'm asking and it seems none of the people there understand that. |
