ps. I have to say about Zabiela (although it's not my type of music) it was pretty damn unique and it sounded like he was making tracks up as he was going!! It was really cool to watch as I was just sitting in the back of the room listening. Very break-y as I was telling Paula; she hadn't heard him before either so we actually delayed our exit to sit and soak JZ in. I was already kinda tired and the bass wasn't pumping like the type of genres I listen to (at the time we decided to leave--3:15 am--I'm sure the tempo probably picked up after) so I wasn't trying to criticize Zabiela in my first post. Feel kinda bad if I say something about my own taste in music and it might make the DJ look bad (especially who's full of class and just comes on the thread to thank people).

Had an absolute BLAST during deadmau5's set!!! Hat off to ya sir! Berlin, Exactly, Jaded, Daft <3 (Oh What Tha Fuck??? haha fun fun) Lookin forward to this night to happen since summer and it sure delivered!!!! By the time joel's set was done i had used up every bit of energy in me and couldnt resist going home...however i was damn pleased to last till 4 witnessing jz tear the equipment to shreads!!! WOW! Never heard breaks/anything like that before but was fcukin impressed at his raw talent!!! SICK night..shame i had to bail early, passed the fcuk out till 1pm, re-woke for an hour and passed out solid till NOW!!!

Summary of the night: 2.5hrs of deadmau5 = 14 hour recovery comatose!! Stoked for more to come!

I had a good time. Deadmau5 was awesome, lovin' everyone going nuts for him. The beginning of James set wasn't my thing, doesn't mean it was bad, just wasn't for me, so I went in the acid lounge to listen to Carlo Lio for awhile.

Came out close to the end of James set though, and it was bumpin! I was so tired by then though, and almost fell asleep a few times while sitting on one of the couches on the stage lol. Good music all around though

I had an amazing night! I got a spot right in front of him before the elevator went up. TA's were at their best!

Mau5 had everyone on their toes. I ventured near the back of the crowd with a friend for a bit. I noticed the crowd in back also knew his fine productions. Each time the first note or bar or sample from the next track he thrown in the previos track, there were gasps and w00t's of excitement. People knew his music. I'm glad all of you Deadmau5 fans like me were there to join me in awe.

The set he played last night was comparable to his set at the BoomBoomRoom in December. Of all times I have seen him live, my favourite was when he played in the Orange Room last year. That night was almost 100% of his own productions only, so it was 100% pure cheddar, baby!

i originally posted this in my welcome thread, but it's probably more appropriate here... :

this was my first time at guv and i have to say i had an excellent time. it was great meeting new people and seeing some others again. -- solid crowd!

the Deadmau5 tees were great, nice touch and awesome to see how people come together at events to show their support for the djs.

I was impressed with the light show (what can i say, is it cuz i'm new? haha), and though it was my first time, it was clear to me how technically awesome Zabiela was -- i was blown away. And of course it was cool to see Deadmau5 after hearing so much about him.

i've been listening to a whole spectrum of genres of edm for years, so i was very excited to get out to this. thanks peter!

no matter what i or anyone else would rate the music or night, it was clear from the crowd's reaction that they were definately feeling it. even if it's not totally what you expected (as some people have said), it's better to enjoy what's in front of you than to stand by the sidelines with your arms crossed the whole time because it's not exactly what you like. -- newbies AND vets alike! but from what i saw, the majority of people were having a great time, and so was i.

..And that's about it.

Vanos I agree with you 100%

I don't know what the hell everybody is talking about...

The music Deadmau5 was playing was garbage....And as for his mixing skills....Did nobody see the little Mac logo lit up in front of you???

It's good that a local guy is doing well in the production world but who the hell is he to play the Guvernment...

I remember a day when it was only world famous big name DJ's and Mark that got to play in that room....It was prestigious...

Now it's just a free for all....I did a coupla tracks so I get to play the best room in the country???

WTF man????

Deadmau5 or the music he's into has no place in that room.. Maybe the Drink is better....

I don't get what ppl pump their fists too....that music is the most boring uneventful crap in the EDM scene...

Does nobody remember when the music would be so fast and powerful that ppl would go out of their heads???

J00F's set last week is what it was all about...that's what belongs in that room...

This site is called trance addict and all you ppl are into the complete opposite of minimal and electro...

I just don't get it....

Just cause you're a big trance fan (so am I) doesn't mean that his music sucks, the guy is headlining in the Ultra Music Conference in WMC, a bunch of chart toppers, and is booked basically two days a week for the next 7 months. I'm sure he's doing something right.

Even Armin and Tiesto the top two trance DJs (according to DJ Mag) voted him producer of 2007.

As for the mixing, many DJs use laptops for mixing (Sasha, Zabiela, Dubfire, Armin, etc), doesn't mean he's not mixing, he's doing more than you think.

I agree with VDub lightly. When are there ever resident nights anymore at guv anymore.

Posted by VDub on Feb-25-2008 04:17:

Doesn't have to be trance..

Just has to be fast, hard, and have some kind of energy...

His music suck's for that room is what I'm saying...

And the title of disc jockey doesn't include a hard disc drive..

Thats a computer programmer...

and I don't like anybody playing off of a laptop...I don't care who it is...

Forgive me for being a purist...

Oh and a couple...5...whatever....He hasn't put in his time performing...

I think someone should be a household name before being allowed to rip up the main room @ guv

I couldn't agree with you more about laptops. I realize these people have the skills but it still bothers me. I will never switch to serato etc.. it's just not the same. I give MO mad props for staying almost completely on vinyl.

Deadmau5's tour schedule makes it pretty fucking clear that booking him for main room was more than appropriate. He's playing Coachella FFS! hahaah

So are you saying someone like Sasha is less of a DJ because he doesn't use CDJ's? Come on man, give me a fucking break.

There will always be people who don't like it and people who will complain (they don't necessarily come in the same package).

Tape decks ftmfw.

Haha - once I start playing, I'm definitely making a set from VHS tapes. At this rate I'll probably have to spend a hell of a lot of money though, they'll be antiques by then!
