Very relevant. It just shows me that you don't know what it is to work (serious job, not part time taco stand shit) and rely on people paying for your efforts so that you can provide for yourself and a family. Just ask your mommy to buy it for you and the world will be a better place.

Well some types of piracy reduce the amount of jobs in the game industry... so obviously people are going to lose their jobs. Then ofcourse faster internet and general trends means theres a ton of jobs in the gaming industry that didn't use to be there. So the internet means some types of games do better commercially and some do worse? Big deal... life changes.

I actually don't play video games, but i do believe people have the right to earn an honest living regardless of what they may be making (music, books, software...ect ect ect.). Behave and i might let you mow my lawn for 5 dollars.

ps nice edit.

Oh comon now. People said the exact same thing when vinyl was invented. All the live musicians complained.

Go look up steal this film at the piratebay... very interesting actually.

Posted by elFreak on Mar-05-2008 01:38:

people paid for vinyl...people paid musicians. Its fair play as its competition. No one can compete with free.

Yes but not anywhere near as much as for live stuff. Probably less than 10% for the same amount of time its heard and the iron lore guy mentioned 10% of stuff being bought and not pirated.

Posted by elFreak on Mar-05-2008 01:45:

You forget that vinyl helped broaden the exposure of the music and allowed recording artists to play places they never would have before.

Next excuse please hamburgler.

Posted by placebo on Mar-05-2008 02:02:

I like how people try and justify piracy--just say you're too fucking cheap to buy it, and you want shit for free.

It's not a very hard concept.

If you can't buy a tv show legally, tough. If you can't play a movie in another region--tough. If you like a track and producer won't release it--TOUGH. It's not YOURS. That's the problem here, people think they have a right to everything they, see, smell, touch, and hear.

It's a privilege.

There's grey areas in everything, but admit to the fact you don't want to pay for shit, and don't clog it with the whole "region coding", "not available where I live" bullshit.

does my refusal to pay for any software somehow impact the industry. yes it most definatly does...

but the key question that no one has posed yet is......

*drum roll*

Do I give a shit?

For that sir, we will have to ask our pannel of judges.

*drum roll*

and we have it ladies and gentleman, a undisputed 10 thumbs down. Its official, I couldn't care less!

If software companies really want to make their stuff secure and bullet proof, just do what the technical softare companies do, release a dongle with your software apps. My design software requires a hardware dongle to run, i can copy the software and install it on as many machines as i want but without this dongle it wont run.

and to be quite honest alot of game companies aren't even making it difficult to pirate their software anyways.

Yes, they are. And yet it's still not as if small to medium size developers are thriving on consoles where people "have to buy" the game. I'm sure it's piracy that's the problem for PC games, though. Clearly. I mean, just look at all the other industries affected by piracy! They're dropping like flies!

its amazing to me when adolescent fuckstains start spouting nonsense as if theyre experts on the economics of game development when id be surprised if they could manage to tie their shoes in the morning.

youre the kind of idiot killing PC gaming. i hope youre proud.

I is can tie my shoes without my mommas help, and crack any copyright protection BS these silly little unknown PC game creators can ever come up with. Dat takes an awful lot of smarts to git it working. I be proud to be a pirate! Last good PC game to be released in a long time was Bioshock and I be purchased dat one cause it was worf it yo.

lol hey man, toss me that torrent

BTW...U can create a software dongle that acts exactly like the physical one! Yes I'm that good.

not for vism you cant...... the dongle plugs into the parralell port and it has a proprietary chip in it that is essentially one of those secure id things that generates a 12 digitnuber every 30 seconds.... my roomate tells me these are impossible to emulate.... and i trust him... he is a computer systems engineer...

Nothing is impossible.

no you can't. you can't do shit. you wait for other people who actually do have the skills to do it for you.

and colonel, i didn't suggest that you cared, just that you were a cvnt and no, the dongle thing is just another stop-gap that can get cracked eventually. nothing is perfect.

on an unreleated note, dongle is my new favorite word for the day. Makes me think of midget penises.

tis a great word....... however i would disagree with the midget penis referance. In my expert opinion (i'm an engineer, which makes me an expert on well everthing......as i have the capacity to think outside the box) dingle would be more synonymous with midget phallus as it has a more small, insignificant, nancy sound to it. where is dongle sounds more like a large manly phallus, not unlike my own....
