Peter, as with all liquor, Gin is an aquired taste. The first time I had scotch I thought it was the most vile beverage ever, now I love it. The key is to keep trying it, after a while you'll learn to like it, and eventually you'll learn to appreciate all the nuances of it.

This is very true that's why i'm going to give it a few trys maybe i'll find a mix i like.

hahaha, it is true that he drank too much, and yeah, I remember him saying that he couldn't hear in one ear. I thought he was BSing at the time however.

It's so true. You have to consciously appreciate the flavour, taking it in slowly.. If you want to compare brands and you don't know what you like, just try them anyway. This way you can try and begin to appreciate the flavours, or start to have an idea as to whether you do or don't like something in particular.. and doing your research on them doesn't hurt either, if you're up to it

Along with gin I hated scotch before as well, and I quite like it now..

btw, I like Bombay Sapphire, but I get the feeling that there are better gin out there. Theresa, recommendations?

I drink mostly bombay sapphire as well, and like it. Though I have been meaning to try some of the more expensive gins for a while, like Ten and Hendricks.

Like Theresa I am picky about the difference between tonic vs club in my Gin, I tried gin and club because Theresa spoke so highly of it, but I will stick to tonic now :P

Naturally, it's only personal preference.

If you and Peter really want to do this comparison tasting thing, we should make a night of it at some point. Yes, no?

You know, I would actually suspect that Bombay may be nicer with tonic than club, as the botanicals tend to be quite biting in this one.. and tonic tends to be on the bitter side, so it could complement the flavour of the gin.. what do you think?

I guess there's only one way to find out! haha

Ehh.. anyone else feeling thirsty? lol

That sounds like an awesome idea. I am down for sure.

Also, adding to the subject of vodka (and gin), I fell in love with 42 Below Vodka from New Zealand. They also have a brand of gin out as well called South, which has received many high accolades. Being a gin drinker, I really wanted to bring some back with me. Sadly, I couldn't as I had to stop in Aussie en route to Canada on the way from NZ, and they didn't have South at the Sydney airport. And the only places that carry it in Canada apparently are all in BC or AB.

Anyone so fortunate as to have tried it? Reviews?

Never been a big fan of vodka, but Peter tells me I really need to try Prince Igor. I am not sure if I am still going to Cuba, but if I do I will bring back a bottle of a fantastic Rum called Caney that I can share.

Vodka~Water~Lime

Simple. Effective. Free of excessive sugar.

Something that I LOVE but never let myself have too often (picked this dirty up in Quebec)

... Beer and Coca Cola.

Don't f*ckin knock it til you try it... gives you a mad retarded energetic buzz.
I like this nastiness when I need a 3:00 am pick-me-up.

Hence also why I love the gin and soda ..essentially it's just alcohol and water.. no sugar, no colouring, and low cal. fantastic. I've never tried vodka/water/lime, but i'll give it a go. I tend to like clean cut drinks anyway, the health-related stuff is just a bonus.

So when is this happening again??

Since the part-time faculty is on strike at Laurier and all my profs are part-time, I guess I've got a few extra days off.
