exactly, none of the outro to intro crossfade stuff, they really worked the decks, the mixer and the efx hard. first time i've seen a back 2 back in EDM (as opposed to turntabalism) where the two djs brought more to the table than just one of them could; they kept switching around from side to side with 3 to 4 hands on the dials most of the time, both seeming to have an immediate understanding of what knob the other guy was adjusting. absolutely immense

will make it short, most of how I feel about last night was already mentioned by others
arrived around 12 or 11.45 to a very swift moving guest list line-up (thanks to Liam's ticket I got in for free as well)... by the time we mingled and listened to some crazy good beats of YM in Acid Lounge, the Swedish duo came on..... tbh, I was a tad worried that their set will remain mellow, because they've started pretty slow, but oh boy, did they pick up their pace!!
like someone mentioned, not too many of their own stuff, but the track selection was great, even though I won't even attempt to ID most of them
time flew by so quickly, one minute it was just about 1am, and next thing I know it's 4! crrrrazy! haven't danced so hard in a while, probably since my very first few times in Guv
I found Guv not as packed as usual (or maybe I'm just used to it now?)
some massive attitudes around though, some chicks really to take a chill pill and stop ramming their elbows into people
I was glad to see some familiar faces, and some new ones too!

all in all a fantastic night, I'm very happy I came out to this, now back to hibernation

ya it is, im surprised you remember me in line when we were waiting to get into freedom and you were going to see 16 bit lolitas. Yo let me know if some good progressive/house dj's come down, ill do the best to make it down, trance is my expertise well at least the old stuff

i still remember hearing Robin S - Show Me Love, every single time i hear i get goosebumps and i feel a little adrenaline rush. Is it wrong to want to tour with A&I? lol

Someone told me they played Rendezvous in Montreal a week or so ago, anyone notice if they did this time too?

i thought Hard Fi - Suburban Knights was a house track but when i looked it up, its just a rock band, its amazing how they mix their styles, its awe inspiring

I *hated* it when it was originally was released...but appreciate it as a bit of classic in its genre (borderline cheese late 90's dance music)

Robyn is *weird*...but I do love With Every Heartbeat. the original is decent and Angello's remix is amazing. I was hoping to hear it last night, but Show me Love was a decent surprise substitute.

I agree with you there

Considering I was out the night before, I had a fabulous time.

Angello & Ingrosso did a great job. I think it was just what the doctor ordered and topped off my weekend. Its been awhile since I attempted a double header weekend, but the tunes kept me rockin and my feet just a movin!

BUT...

I was torn between mainroom and Acid Lounge. Dave Ace, Lars and Mike were tearin it up in there. Great job guys

you make it sound like everyone thinks they need drugs to stay away. i've been clubbing off and on for 9 years and i've never once taken anything and i generally close out the party. it isn't a novelty. as for your comment about mash ups go listen to markus schulz i think he does nice mash ups although i would agree with you i liked the way steve and sebastian or shall i say sebastian (because he's better) work it behind the decks.

no no i didnt mean it like that, i meant it for the people who need the drugs to last the night or to enhance their time at a party, it was in no way directed to the people who dont do drugs. As for mashups one of the craziest dj's out there with mashups is Andy C, playing 3 tracks at once for a minute or so is simply amazing skill!!

Markus' mashups are great but often done by pre-production - A&I had a lot of raw mixing skill and there was more flair used to mashup on the fly (though some of them were produced too). that said, it is not a criticism of markus since his style is more progressive so it suits and sounds best to do this way, conversely someone like Laidback luke is really skilled for scratching and fast cuts but it occassionally takes away from the flow of the set.

there is something to be said for having both technical abilities and strong fundamentals of track mixing being harnessed together for a balance which is what we got last night. earlier parts of the set when they spun back to back was more technically interesting, but once seb had left steve worked a lot more progressively with the flow and grooves.

andy c is great, but hype schools him from a technical point of view (just listen to Fabriclive 18 Andy C & DJ Hype - it's so distinct there isn't any contest). i'm still waiting to hear a house dj that can double-drop like hype, now that would be gold

Posted by Ravist on Apr-14-2008 00:53:

i think Hype is only better at andy c when it comes to scratching, Andy C can double drop too witnessed that when Andy c came to republik not too long ago. I will check out that set, what year is it?
