That has a certain air of dignity to it.

All I'm saying is that the trance of today is a minority taste on Tranceaddict, and has been for some time. That's a curious state of things.

That said, I found Menno de Jong's Intuition Sessions from last year one of the better trance sets I've heard in quite some time.

Menno De Jong's "Intuition Sessions" was the last good prog/epic-trance i've heard (well, together with Cape Town's "Aviateur" album and possibly a few Daniel Kandi releases). It used to stand-out from the majority of 2007 releases (and possibly 2006 and 2005 as well!). Generally, the stuff on Intuition were quality.

I agree about Intuition Sessions, Menno often had interesting and nice tracks.

Nah. we can just call the proper new trance by it's name and for the stuff you're into, we'll call "dance" or "Van Trance" in hommage to the innovator of boredom

I can still find good trance sets and good trance tracks, it just takes more effort and they are fewer and further between. I would have to say that 2007 and 2008 are about the same as far as mostly fail. 2000-2005 are probably the best that I have heard. Off and on really even in there. My nostalgia for 2003 "As the Rush Comes" is strong though.

I'm having a fantastic time listening to tech house, house and techno.

Posted by Illusion7 on Apr-26-2008 05:11:

Sucks, but you can find a few good ones on Beatport. One of the best is Boom Jinx's "Eternal Reminiscence" IMO. Another would probably be Shadowrider's "Blue Horizon (Kenidel Lopez Remix)".

That makes me wonder what housno sounds like.

You're sooo wrong. I'm not the one who has problems with current trance. The people that keep stating that trance around 1998 was the only real thing have.
IMO it all still can and should be called trance, just many like it better the way it was around 1998. So it would be good to give it a name so some of these endless discussions will stop. For me it's no problem, just confusing. I already listened to trance since 1994 or maybe even earlier. I liked it since then and even now. My personal taste makes it easy to find tracks I like. So someone with the 1998 taste better not listen to ASOT IMO, and respect the people who do like it.

Trance sucks period now no doubt about it.

Posted by PaulSn on Apr-26-2008 21:24:

Bad.

Posted by Barachem on Apr-27-2008 15:19:

Well, i find that the period of 1998 - 2003 was shitty as far as trance is concerned, in 2003 trance began going in a different direction, luckily.
I found out, that dome of the classics, like Energy 52 and The Orange Theme are from before 1998, explaining their quality.
While i do think that 2008 so far has been pretty low in good trance, it's better than the dark age of trance.

It's still quite the same from last year, but if you actually wanna listen to a decent radio show then listen to TATW or Future Sound of Egypt (Aly & Fila). I'd add in Menno's show but that only comes once a month. A&F should revive uplifting trance with their new sound.

ASOT plays some pretty bad tracks these days and GDJB has always played proggy shit.

Sean Tyas' set last year in ASOT 300 was pretty good, close to the epic stuff you used to hear in '98 - '01, but he hasn't came out with anything special this year. Also, the 1998 - 2001 period is for me, the best era of trance.

My favorite label this year is Euphonic, they've been releasing some hot tracks like Pictures (club mix) which can get you going quite easily.

Highlights off the top of my head so far..

Mimi - Evol Waves
Majai - Phoria (Jorn van Deynhoven Remix)
Aly & Fila - Lost language
Georgia - Ode99
Maor Levi - Shapes (Oliver Klein remix)
Greg Downey - Stadium
Ernesto vs. Bastian - Thrill - (John O' Callaghan remix)

There has been some horrifc stuff though, Simon Patterson - Smack is a cheap spin on his hit Bulldozer from last year.
Not to mention 'Elemnts of Life remixed' and Armins new album. I would prefer to listen to a lawnmower going over rocks.

I generally thought 07 was a strong year. 06 I thought was terrible.
