The intimate relationship junk hopefully isn't required later in the game. It's the reason I stopped playing San Andreas.
I'm buying a PS3 later tonight along with GTAIV, so here's hoping they're both in stock

well the car handling in SA was a stat that could be built up just like running, weight lifting, etc.

driving cars sucked ass at first in SA but got better the longer you had played. perhaps the handling will improve, even if the focus on *meta* stuff is no longer in IV|

I highly doubt it'll get better or improve much at all. I might get used to this relative shittiness eventually, but I still fishtail like crazy and turning is a bitch. I hate the fact that the handbrake function is so flipping fail as it make you skid out so easily :/

The auto-aiming is relatively lame as well. It'll pick the wrong person half the time even if the person you're trying to shoot is right in front of you. I'm playing on a ps3, so I dunno about the 360.

Even with that, the game is immense to play.

I'd agree for the most part, but will say that the higher end cars seem to handle amazingly well - there just seems to be a spectrum from total shit to pretty fun as far as driving goes.

The early cars in the game fucking suck.

It's as bad on the 360, however it's another thing I've slowly warmed up to. Even though I do think it picks the wrong target the bulk of the time, it has made headshots so much easier for me to pull off with the pistol.

Absolutely not a perfect game, just pretty damn good.

I've tried the Comet, Infernus, and some other cars, like the Super GT or whatever, and none of them are all that great to handle.

Yeah, but it's also aggravating when you auto-aim, but can't move the right joystick to manually aim, you just wind up fine-tuning and the minute you start moving the joystick around too much it goes right back to the original point. Bleh, I just want to shoot out windows and gas tanks.

Still, ducking for cover and launching grenades is soooo much more satisfying. Killing anything in this game is infinitely more satisfying, and gun fights are done astoundingly well provided you've got the ability to cover decently.

The driving is supposed to be shit. They modeled it after real cars.

If so, then in this instance they sacrificed some of the fun of the game for realism. In my opinion. It's still a wickedly fun game, but they should have kept the driving controls as they were. It makes these chase missions fucking harrrrd.

Multiplayer's actually a lot of fun. Didn't think it was going to be as deep as it is.

The camera sucks. I wish it would follow your car and not stay behind it and turn after your turn. I hate the hood view too.

Aiming sucks so hard now too.

Those are the only things I dislike, otherwise it's a great game.

But got damn text messages are annoying. The cell phone is annoying.

I would have absolutely no problem with the camera if you could invert both axis on the look stick.

It's beyond me why any game has an option to invert only one axis.

All told though, it looks like all of us are at least sort of reaching to find imperfections - which is good, because for all the legitimate complaints we've all got, it doesn't seem like even one of them ruins the experience as a whole for anyone.

In other words, GTA4: Safe as fuck.

I also hate how god damn dark the entire game is. Increasing brightness and contrast makes the game look shittier, so I keep them maybe 1 or 2 up each.

Well, I'm only to the second safe house (just beginning the Elizabeta missions), but I have to say I'm really starting to come around on the driving mechanics. Took a long, long time to get used to them, but now I feel pretty comfortable when engaged in chases as well as shooting while driving.

Though the problem with the camera inversion became much, much more significant during the first sniper mission.
